Hey how you doin? I went last night to re-sync my ipod to my PC and I got the following error box ...."ipod disk could not be read from or written to" I just synced it two nights prior to this problem, what exactly is wrong with my ipod and how can I fix it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to copy about 12000 songs from my internal HD to an external so I can wipe my drive clean and start again. The problem is that I keep getting this "disk cannot be read from or written to" every few hundred songs. The songs have come from all over, and there is no common thread to how I acquired any of them. I've actually got this error when trying to copy several different file types to an external HD and I've no earthly idea why. I'm sure the drive is riddled with irreparable errors which is why I want to wipe it, but I need to get a lot of these files over before I do so. Can anyone recommend some kind of utility that will identify and/or repair these corrupt files so I don't have to stop and start the transfer every 30 seconds?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem when I'm transferring files from my powerbook g4 to external hard disks such as lacie or ipod. It keeps popping up "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in file AVI could not be read or written. (Error Code -36). This happens just for certain files, not all of them. I don't know whether the hard disk has an issue or the file is corrupted and if the file is corrupted I hope there is a program that can restore it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've done a search for this and cannot seem to find a definitive solution. I've just upgraded to a larger Verbatim external drive and when I go to take files off my existing external drive across to it, it keeps coming up with the error: The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in *** can't be read or written. This only happens in certain folders. I am able to copy some folders across, but some I get this error. I've tried verifying both drives, formatting the Verbatim one for FAT32, repairing, but nothing seems to work. Some points that may be worth mentioning:
- The original external drive is formatted as MAC OS X Extended Journaled.
- Some of the folders I am having trouble with may have been originally created on a PC.
I would like to keep the new drive as FAT32, so I can use it on a PC if I need to down the road. I read something about using dot_clean via terminal, but I can never seem to get the path correct to my external drive. (The name of the external drive is MASTER HD) Would appreciate if anyone else has had the same problem could tell me what they did to solve it? Not sure why some files will copy over and some wont?
I have two Mac's -- roughly 2007 Mac Book Pro's. One is rather beat up. Both are running the latest 10.6.4. I got a CD with data on it from a film processing shop and put it into the Mac and the Mac eventually gave me the same prompt as you get when you put in a fresh, unburnt, writable CD. I asked the Mac to eject the CD which it did.
I went back to the shop and they could mount the CD just fine (I think they had a PC). I tried a second time on the Mac -- same thing. I then put it in an AIX system and it could read it just fine too. So, the CD is "ok" as far as AIX and Windows is concerned but the Mac sees it as a fresh new unburnt CD.
My Macbook pro wouldn't turn on. I booted to the installation DVD and installed OS X to the external drive. Once the installation was done, I was able to access my laptop without any problem and I retrieved all my files from the USERS Folder. I tried to copy my old files to the external disk, before formatting the system’s internal drive and reinstalling OS X.
However, at every attempt, I’d get “some data can’t bet read or written (Error Code -36)”. I ran a Verify/Repair Disk Permissions and this is what I got:
I am running osx 10.5.4 on a brand new macbook. I have an old, crappy external hard drive that works intermittently with a bunch of large files on it that I am copying to my new, fancy external hard drive. Problem is, more than half the time, finder will report "unable to complete the operation because some data on 'filename' could not be read or written. (Error Code -36)"
This would be no problem, as I could then just cancel the copy and try again. But Finder freezes the copy window open, and it will not close by clicking on the "x" in the copy window. The only way to try again is to relaunch Finder. I do not want to force finder to quit every time I try to copy a file to my new drive. Is relaunching finder repeatedly bad for my system or hardware? Seems like a glitch. Is there a way around this?
My iPod is formatted MAC and I want to change it to be able to read it on a PC and add more music. How do I do this without losing my music? What software is available? Please explain fully, as my knowledge of computers and software is moderate, but not extensive.

I did a test run and sync'd my shuffle to a new machine and it erased everything but fortunately I re-sync'd it back on my present machine so I still have everything.

My iPod touch and iPhone cannot be synced with my iTunes. This is not an issue with my USB ports or cord as the computer recognizes the devices are plugged in and begins charging them. I've updated everything and restarted, nothing is working.

my IPad is a first gen, 64G and my IPod touch is a 3rd gen, also 64G.
when I try to sync my IPad it keeps saying "The iPad cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 14.39 GB required)."
There is still 20 gigs of free space left on the IPad and 247 gigs left on my hardrive so, I don't know why it's saying that and when I plug in my IPod touch it says it cannot sync because an unknown error occurred (13019)
recently I had to get my computer wiped and this is the first time trying to sync my devices since then. I had to re-download everything. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Also can IPads be bugged? mine constanly crashes and sometimes it randomly opens a different app usually when I'm in safari. It also constanly freezes lot's of times in ITunes or watching movies the screen turns black.
oh and I have a Mac from 2007, with leapord, I'm pretty sure my ITunes account is up to date.

Couple days ago I deleted a playlist on my Itunes accidentally. Luckily I have all my music backed up on an External HD. I remade the playlist on Itunes, transferred the music from my Ext. HD to the playlist, connected my ipod to have it synced, then disoconnected my HD and Ipod after sync and when I search the playlist on my Ipod I only get 29 of the 142 songs synced. Can someone please tell me what could be going wrong?

I have iPhoto v6.0.6 and I could not find a "disable sync" anywhere in the preferences. I fond the application image capture but when I open it, nothing happens (the menu switches for a split second from finder to image capture then back to finder). I heard you can disable it through image capture but since the program seems to be faulty and does not open so I dont know what to do.

Way bigger than will fit on the 250gb drive on my macbook. So I am looking for a way to sync my macbook in the same fashion as an iPod. I want to choose a few playlists to send over and keep synced. Maybe 50gb or so of data so that when I am away from my main computer I can have music with me. The reason I want to do this is my 30GB ipod recently dove off the deep end and I dont have the finances to get a new one yet. But I usually have my laptop with me most places and like to listen to music. I have found ways to keep 2 libraries synced but not be able to partially sync one. Anyone have any ideas on how or if this is even possible?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI own a 5th Gen ipod (clickwheel) that i recently reset, but now it will not charge or sync with my itunes. when i connect it to my computer it shuts off saying, "no battery power remain connect ipod to power." then it goes to a screen that says "wait very low battery." i leave it still plugged into my mac and in a couple minutes the apple logo appears and then "do not disconnect." it appears to be connecting to my itunes and begins to sync, but then it shuts off due to "no battery power," repeating the entire cycle it did before.
How can i fix my ipod? i do not own a separate power charger for the ipod and unfortunately the nearest apple store is four hours away.I also don't understand why it won't charge while connected.

I have an iPod Touch and it hasn't ever given me problems with syncing music until recently. Everytime I try to sync music onto it on itunes with my Mac computer (which is how I always do t) it won't let me. A message pops up that says "An unknown error has occured (13019)." Does anyone know what 13019 means? Is it a code for the type of error it is?

I have a brand new Macbook Air. I transfered my iTunes library from my old mac to the new one. However, some songs weren't on the old computer, they were only on the iPod classic.
When I try to sync the iPod classic, it tells me 539 songs aren't on the new computer, should it sync? I say yes. Then it says that the computer is no longer authorized. I fill in the authorization with the correct userid and password (it comes prefilled with a very strange userid that I've never seen before.)
It tries to sync, then I get the same message, that the computer is no longer authorized.
I'm assuming there's a certificate or cookie some place that's out of wack -- can you tell me where it is and I can go delete it?
PS. I was able to successfully sync my iPod Nano to the new computer without this issue at all. Then again, it didn't have any songs on it that weren't already on the new computer. I haven't tried syncing my iPod Mini to the new computer yet.

I have an older Ipod Classic, and now a new iPhone 4s. How can I sync both with my Mac when the iTune library is different?

I use my iPod Classic for a lot of things on a daily basis. It means I don't have to take my laptop in school, I have all the files, pictures and documents I need for when I may need them at school. I have always just been copying and pasting files that I have changed or added onto and from the iPod Hard Drive. Now I use the files so much I always loose track of what I have updated and haven't and end up without the files I need when at school.
Is there a program that can keep my laptop and iPod folders up to date by syncing just the changed, added and deleted files. iTunes can sync quite a few things but not documents and folders which is annoying. A well needed update I feel as the iPod is increasingly becoming a necessity in a lot of peoples every day lives. So am I the only one that uses my classic as a portable hard drive for my work?
My laptop has died and so I am off to purchase a MacBook Pro at the weekend. My concern is my iTunes account and credit which is on my laptop. My iTunes library is a combination of purchased songs and songs copied from my own CDs.
Will I be able to sync my iPod to the MacBook Pro thereby retrieving my credit and songs?
