Mac Pro :: Routing - Connect Ethernet Switch To One Of Pro's Ethernet Ports

Nov 2, 2008

I just bought an airport extreme w/gigabit, and I'm wondering if it's possible to connect an ethernet switch to one of my pro's ethernet ports and have things like my xbox 360 and ps3 run off it, however, my mac pro would be connected to my airport extreme via 802.11n. is that possible?

Hardware :: Extend Network Will AEBS Connect Wirelessly And Allow Ethernet Ports To Work?

Oct 2, 2010

What I want to be able to do is plug into the Ethernet ports on this AEBS, and I want that to use wireless to the other wireless router to give me network access. Here is the deal, I have a computer that doesn't have wireless network on it, so it's only Ethernet. I have the AEBS at my desk, and I want to connect the hardwired computer into the AEBS. I want the AEBS to then wirelessly connect that computer that is hard-wired to the network...

Hardware :: AirPort Express Units - Ethernet Ports

Nov 8, 2010

I recently found out that the Ethernet ports on the Airport Express Units are 100 MBits only. With a Time Capsule I am able to get 15-18 MB / sec via the WiFi, but the Airport Express, even though it has the same Air-capabilities, is limited to around 11 MB / sec through its Ethernet port. I hope they will get upgraded with Gigabit soon, I will replace all in my household. Is there any info on when it might happen?

Hardware :: Bridging Time Capsule - Cannot Use Wired Ethernet Ports

Jun 1, 2009

I need some advice with my wireless set-up. I have:
Airport Extreme (master network)
Airport Express (slave)
Time Capsule (slave)

Right now I have my XBox 360 hooked up to my Express through a wired connection (works fine). I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my Time Capsule through a wired connection (doesn't work at all). When I look at the settings, it isn't even an option to bridge the TC, so as it stands in its slave capacity I cannot use any of the three wired ethernet ports. Is it possible in its current network configuration to get the TC to recognize the Mac Mini I have connected through a wired connection?

Mac Pro :: Ethernet Port 1 Works On 1 Switch While Not On Another?

Oct 27, 2009

I have added a new switch to my network and it seems that ethernet port 1 does not work on this new switch. My network consist of dhcp server>switch 1>switch 2. Switch 1 is in my entertainment center and had ethernet port 1 connected to this switch since I have had my computer but when plugged into switch 2 which I have just added to my workstation and on the switch there is no lights and in system preferences port 1 flashes between not connected and no ip address. For port 2 it connects fine and both ports are set for dhcp. I have tried different cables setting a static address and can not find a reason why it won't work.

OS X :: Ethernet Cable Connecting Ethernet Port To IPhone - Feasible?

May 20, 2009

I was just wondering if any other macrumorsmembers have been in the situation where there's no wifi, no decent 3G, but ethernet ports available to use, but you don't have a computer handy? Would it be possible that you could create an ethernet cable one end, dock the other, and literally connect e.g. an iPhone into the ethernet? At my place of work, there's no signal (dodgy GPRS/flakey Edge), some wifi, but in halls of residence, you get 1 ethernet port, and you can't put a wireless router onto it. It would seem that it would be an interesting solution, if it was possible.

OS X :: Connect Mac To PS3 Via Ethernet?

Apr 5, 2008

my PS3 and Mac are in my room, on the same desk, my wireless router is downstairs. The PS3 is getting a poor connection (40% signal) sometimes cutting out which makes it hard to download PS network stuff. My mac has a solid signal. What I want to do is connect my PS3 directly to my Mac using an ethernet cable. I just want to know how to get the PS3 to connect to the Macs connection through the wire. Apparently the PS3 needs to recognise the mac as a router?

OS X :: New IMac Can't Connect With Ethernet

Oct 9, 2010

I bought an iMac and have been loving it but one thing I can't figure out how to fix is why it can't connect to the internet through my Ethernet cable. My PPC G4 connects just fine. I've googled and found nothing that helps. I tried deleting my system preferences but that didn't help. It just says there is no Ethernet cable connected even though it clearly is. I can't try with wifi because for some reason anything running OS X can't connected to my homes wifi. Not sure if this matters but it's a 27" iMac, 3.03 ghz intel with 1tb hard drive.

OS X :: MacBook Will Not Connect Via Ethernet

Jun 1, 2009

So as of mid-day my Macbook will not connect to the internet in our apartment via ethernet. I have tried all my roomates ethernet plug ins and it still does not work. It shows a green light next to ethernet saying it his hooked up but it won't load any pages. I've tried network diagnostics? When I try to go to a webpage it goes to a white screen and after 5min of trying to load it bring up the "not connected to the internet" text. I guess I'll make a trip to the apple store wednesday if at all possible unless you guys come up with something. This machine is out of warranty so I'm wondering what would be the worse case scenario and how much am I looking at spending?

Power Mac :: G5 Ethernet Cannot Connect

Mar 12, 2012

My powerpc g5 is connected to my home network via ethernet but cannot connect to internet.  All PCs on the network can access the internet except the g5.  On the "network" in system preferences the status for the ethernet is "connected, ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect." I've tried re-building the ethernet connection, adding DNS server IP addresses, nothing helps.

OS X :: Unable To Connect Via Ethernet Port

May 17, 2009

I've had the 13" aluminum macbook since October 2008 and I've never had a problem with the wireless or an Ethernet connection. I turned on my computer the other day and I couldn't connect to the internet through my ethernet port. I've determined it's not my connection (friend's macbook connects fine) and I've tried connecting to other ports around my campus and it still doesnt work. On network settings, the light is green, cable detected, assigned an ip address and dns but it simply times out when I try to connect to anything (firefox, itunes store, mail, etc.). I'm fairly new to mac os x.

OS X :: Cannot Connect To Internet Via Ethernet Or Wireless

Oct 1, 2009

I'm brand new to Mac. I just got a MacBook Pro, and I've been having some troubles connecting to the internet at home. I have a LinkSys WRT54GS router with Firmware Version: v1.50.9. I'm unable to access the internet through both ethernet and wireless. Concerning wireless, I have tried connecting using WEP, and have tried entering passcodes both with and without an "$" and "0x" preceding the 10 digit WEP passcode. I have also tried switching the encryption over to WPA2, and still nothing. I have even disabled the security to see if it's able to connect -- it's not. I had some error regarding not being able to find it's IP or something along those lines.

Intel Mac :: It Does Not Connect Using Gigabit Ethernet

Feb 10, 2012

I have my iMac (2009 model) and MacBook Pro (2011) connected to a D-Link Gigabit switch using CAT5E cables.Switch is connected to my router using gigabit connection. Switch is showing gigabit connections for the link to the router and the link to the MacBook Pro (MBP). Link to the iMac only shows 100 mbit connection.

Cables are ok since behaviour is exactely the same when I change/swap iMac and MBP.

When I go the network/ethernet settings in iMac and change from "automatic" to "manual" and select gigabit, the iMac claims there is no network cable connected at all. When changing back to "automatic", connection is re-established but again with 100mbit connection only.

On the left panel in Diagnostics, Ethernet has a green light, Network Settings an orange light, and ISP a green light (internet and Server are Red).

I'm using Comcast cable, and they just say the settings should appear automatically on a Mac (which they apparently did on my Mac Book!) ...
