My internet starts slowing or quits, when I go into Networks in Prefs, it has changed to a different network (usually a neighbor that shows up). I reset the network and use the lock. But I have to do this several times a day?
View 5 RepliesSince I installed Firefox 12, I can't change my default browser preferences in Safari. Safari defaults to Firefox 12 no matter what browser I select. Anyone else having this problem? Mac OS 10.7.3, Safari 5.1.5 & Firefox 12.

Tabbed browsing has introduced a new browsing paradigm in which one can rapidly open many pages linked from specific articles or aggregation sites to read at a later point. Having adapted this paradigm and used it widely in my browsing habits, I have noticed that it falls short in a few instances. Often, I will open a list of tabs and then start reading through the pages left to right. At each page, I may want to open additional links from that page into new tabs in the current window. However, when I do so, they appear at the end of the list, sometimes many tabs away from the related article.
What I would like to see is a preference or a modifier key that would cause additional tabs to be opened immediately after the current tab but before the following tabs in the list. This would allow me to group related tabs more easily. This would probably work best as a modifier key rather than an option in the browser preferences, since the current behavior may be desirable when a series of tabs are opened in order of importance or chronology.
How can I change the browser to which my queries go from "Mail". To explain: when I click on a link in my "mail" I go to Google Chrome. I would like to go to Safari instead.

the preferences barely have any options to do anything? i wanna make the size of the letters bigger and have it as a default but i cant figure out how to do it. when i click zoom in it makes it bigger but as soon as i go to a different page it switches back to normal. anyone know if it can be done? im also trying to organize bookmarks and have a google toolbar at the top right of the browser like safari has. i dont even see a popup blocker. what gives? are these things possible to do with this browser?

Is there a way to change it so that it will automatically load Mac OS X if I do not hold the option key?
View 3 Replies View RelatedBased upon my inability to update my iPad2 with its latest iOS 5.0.1, I was encouraged to and did change my DSN preferences in system preferences to the two Google ones (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). I think what I replaced were the original preferences put in place by my Internet provider, Charter.net. Are there adverse consequences of changing the DSN, and should I change them back to those placed there originally?

This issue has probably when addressed in the past but I am having a problem with it now and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Currently, whenever I try to access Apple Mail (OS X 10.6.4), I get the spinning ball and I find that mail is not responding. Does anyone have any idea of what is going on or how I can reinstall mail?
My Flash Player preferences (in the preferences pane) keep returning to the default settings after i have made changes to the settings. It seems to take about a week between the time i set the preferences till they return back to the default settings. As an example, about a week ago i set the "Storage" tab to "Block all sites from storing information on this computer." Last night i checked the preferences and this same tab had been changed back to the default choice, "Allow sites from storing information on this computer." Same thing for the "Camera and Mic" tab, i check the "block all sites", then in a week or so it goes back to "Ask me." This is occuring across all the tabs in the Flash Player preferences.Â

I just installed a Mercury Accelsior RAID drive in a PCI slot in my Mac Pro. It appears on the desktop, but I don't want it to. In Finder > Preferences I have "Hard Disks" unchecked, and "External Drives" checked. Does the Mac Pro see this as an external drive?Apparently so. Is there a way to specify that this one particular external drive shouldn't display on the desktop?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac OS X 10.7.3 (purchased in late 2010) with all updates current. I use AirPort to connect to my Linksys router with a WPA2 password.
Nearly everytime I wake my computer from sleep, my wireless router is disconnected, even when I have set my settings and clicked on the lock to prevent further changes. My router always shows on the list of available connections with full strength, but it is more often than not extremely difficult to get it connected again. It says "Could not join "myRouter". A connection time out occured."Â I usually have to use the assistant and go through the steps, which usually includes re-typing my password four to five times before it agrees that I know my own password (which is fairly simple to type, I can't possibly be entering it incorrectly that many times).
I downloaded and installed an update [URL] that quote: "resolves an issue that may cause an iMac to not automatically connect to a known Wi-Fi network after waking from sleep. It is recommended for all iMac (Late 2009 or newer) users running 10.7.3." Â
I tried setting a new location, and set the DHCP setting under TCP/IP to be manual. I was successful in connecting to the internet that time, and locked the settings to prevent further changes, yet the first time my computer woke from a sleep, the lock was unchecked and the settings were changed back to automatic. And I was disconnected yet again.Â
This has been going on for months, but in the last couple weeks I have found I am now unable to lock the lock to prevent changes, no matter if my Location is set to automatic or one that I have created. Really looking for resolution as this is wasting so much time, I am on and off the computer multiple times a day.Â

I recently changed my apple ID password and now I can't log in to the icloud system preferences on my iMac or the App Store on my iMac. Everything else is fine with the new password; icloud.com, itunes, ipad, iphone, MacBook Air. Have tried creating a new user account but get the same messages which vary from "unrecognized user or password" to "problem communicating with icloud, try again later."

Each broadband connection has it's own Wireless Router (1 has a Belkin 54g the other is an Orange Livebox). I also have an Apple Airport Express which is doing nothing at the minute.
What I'd like to do is set up the two networks to be linked i.e. the MacPro on Connection 1 will be able to see the other Macs on Connection 2 and file share the video's/music etc etc...
How would I go about setting this up?
iMail is able to download messages just fine in my home network however, when ever I am over a public network, eg library, sb, etc, it doesn't load. I still have access to the mail within iMail but can't download or send anything?

I need to be sitting a few feet away from a router for my macbook (10.4.11) to detect it. This occurs with all networks. I never had this problem until the past year and its seemed to get progressively worse. I'm not sure if this is a confrontational or hardware issue.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently attempting to assist a lady who is experiencing many issues connecting to wireless networks and using VPN software to connect to our resources. I will provide as much detail as I can, however this has been an ongoing job involving myself and quite a few other support officers. I am, historically, a PC user. I can provide some basic Mac support, but only what I have been trained in. I am now seeking assistance, as I have reached the limit of my knowledge. An issue was raised with myself when this lady first called and reported that she was having trouble connecting her VPN client (from Cisco) while connected to a remote wireless connection.
I went through some basic troubleshooting (what errors are you getting, etc.) and eventually discovered that the client was using a static IP (Self assigned in Mac-speak). I was perplexed that the lady would be using this and asked some more probing questions. Turns out, the hotel that she is staying in does not have any wireless connections available and she is using next doors' (shady, I know). One of her friends informed her that the best way to connect would be to use this static IP (10.1.1.2). This means that multiple computers would be connecting to the same network with the same IP address. I informed her that static IPs are meant to be unique to all computers on the network and that having overlapping ones may cause conflicts. When she changed this back to DHCP, she then lost all network activity. the Airport device was turned on, but not connected to anything......................

anyways, there's an application that shows which wireless networks are open/connectable. anyone know if it's still out there? as i remember, it shows in menu bar different networks, with a dot right next to it � green for open, and so on.
Recently my Macbook Pro has seemed to develop a problem joining WPA2 networks that I have credentials saved for automatically, both at home and at school. At school it selects the network, but doesn't automatically authenticate, I need to go into the wireless settings and set it to 'connect' with the proper credentials selected in the 802.1x box. At home, it doesn't even select my home network automatically, I need to go and select it myself, but then it authenticates properly. Is there something I can do that will just delete All of my wireless configurations and associated content? I'm tempted to just wipe it and format if nothing else.

Is there some way to use the wireless to connect to internet while using the ethernet jack to connect to a different LAN so it can connect to a fileserver? Or if that isn't possible, can I join my LAN network to the one which provides internet access without having to change all my LAN addresses? My goal is to maintain a private gigabit LAN while getting internet from somebody else in my office.

Easy to get it working, not a big deal, but it annoys me that I need to start it manually every time I switch wifi networks and such. Is there a way to automate this? I want to connect to the VPN whenever the Airport logs into one of the University's wifi networks. The Cisco client also supports command-line mode, so I could write a script for that. But the big question is: is there a "connected to wifi network" event I can hook into using AppleScript or something.
View 21 Replies View RelatedI've been having lots of problems with my network lately I had to reset it. But since then my Macbook will not remember it as a preferred network. (At least I think thats what the problem is.) When I open the lid my computer wakes up and then I get the popup message (look at picture 1) then I have to click on my network which is called linda. Then my the space to write my password is already filled (see picture 2), I have to click JOIN and only then I can go online. But I've had to do these steps at least 10 times a day for the past month and now im sick of it!

My main computer is a Macbook Pro and I connect to the internet via a wireless modem/router I have managed to get the printer operating in both USB wired and wireless mode over the modem/router with my Macbook Pro running OSX I need to run and print from some windows programs so I have Windows 7 running on the Macbook also via Parallels. The printer will work in Windows if the printer is connected to the Macbook via USB but I cannot get the wireless to work in Windows. When running the HP install for it I get the following message: The PC and the printer are connected to different networks(237DB2A87D and 66616B65). They must be connected to the same network. This can happen when you use the manufacturer's default network name (SSID) and another nearby network is using the same name.I also have tried to connect to the printer via another Vista desktop connected wirelessly to the modem/router and get the same error message so I don�t think its got to do with the fact I have a Macbook, OXS, Parallels etc.
