OS X :: Joining WPA2 Networks Automatically

Sep 20, 2010

Recently my Macbook Pro has seemed to develop a problem joining WPA2 networks that I have credentials saved for automatically, both at home and at school. At school it selects the network, but doesn't automatically authenticate, I need to go into the wireless settings and set it to 'connect' with the proper credentials selected in the 802.1x box. At home, it doesn't even select my home network automatically, I need to go and select it myself, but then it authenticates properly. Is there something I can do that will just delete All of my wireless configurations and associated content? I'm tempted to just wipe it and format if nothing else.

OS X :: Automatically Log Into VPN When Connecting To Certain Wireless Networks?

Nov 20, 2005

so my University uses the lovely Cisco VPN Client. Easy to get it working, not a big deal, but it annoys me that I need to start it manually every time I switch wifi networks and such. Is there a way to automate this? I want to connect to the VPN whenever the Airport logs into one of the University's wifi networks. The Cisco client also supports command-line mode, so I could write a script for that. But the big question is: is there a "connected to wifi network" event I can hook into using AppleScript or something.

OS X :: Cannot Connect To Wireless Using WPA2

May 23, 2008

For some reason I cannot connect to wireless using WPA2, and when setting a manual net work it seems that OS X refuses to remember the protection is "WPA2". I am kinda at my wits end as I just can't seem to make it connect regardless if I set it to WPA or WPA or change the passkey. Regardless of whether I use open (it still seems to require/want a wep password) or a hidden wpa2 network I cannot connect. I have also tried wpa, wep, hidden and unhidden. This is an image of when i used assistant to connect to the hiden wireless network with wpa2. [URL]. You can see that it's not even giving me an option for WPA2. wtf? I have cleared all the plists related to networking, yet I still have the problem.

OS X :: Joining Videos And Making Screencaps On Mac

Apr 20, 2010

I was wondering if I can join videos on a Mac? I know Quicktime can, but the resulting video isn't really smooth. I tried doing this on iMovie, but I don't like the black outline (is there a way to get rid of it then?) and it doesn't preserve its original quality (not even that close x_X). My second question is, is there a program that allows me to create screencaps. Preferably free programs please.

IMac PPC :: Use WPA2 Or WEP Without The Connection Dropping Every Few Seconds

Mar 18, 2012

I have an old iMac from circa 2003 that I just reformatted for my kids to use. Since the reformat I have not been able to get the computer to connect to the Airport Extreme on my Time Machine. Now my Time Machine was set to WPA2 so I changed it to a straight WEP and the iMac can handle that but it keeps dropping the connection every 15 to 20 seconds. Can I get the iMac to use WPA2 and or how can I stop the iMac from rejected the Wi-Fi connection every few seconds?

MacBook Pro :: Freezes When Joining To Wireless Network

Aug 10, 2009

In all my mac user life I have seen Macs freezing as Windows freeze. I use my macbook Pro at work and at home. It is when I join either of the two wireless signals, when I get a freeze (about 5 minutes after joining.) I looked at the system profiler >logs>system for anything significant. I can't find anything. I remember messing with network configurations to change a DNS setting. About that time things started happening. So this morning I deleted my Airport configuration and rebuild a new one at the network preferences.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Slow After Joining Pdfs In Preview?

May 16, 2012

I regualrly have to join several PDF files into one document. They way I am doing this at the moment is through preview i.e. simply dragging and dopping the files over one another in the thumbnail side bar. However, at some point the computer invariably freezes showing me the spinning wheel of death for perhaps 15mins. Some times I cannot revover and have to force a hard reboot. Other times, I can get it to soft reboot after waiting for ages. The funny thing is the resulting file is fine since I can access after it after performing the reboot.

why this is and how I can avoid it since it wasts alot of time.

Specs of my MacBook are:Processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i7

Memory 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 I have 600 GB of hard disc space free

I am running OSX 10.7.3

The total size of the documents I want to join amounted to less than 4 Mb so I don't think I should be running out of memory.

It will list my network in the network list and will connect to other unsecured networks but not to mine. I use WPA2 security on the network.Alternatively, my Macbook Air, Mac Mini, iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii have no problems connecting.

MacBook Pro :: WPA2 Enterprise WiFi Connects Only After Restart

Aug 27, 2014

Whenever trying to connect to a WPA2 Enterprise WiFi network, I only get an IP address when it is the first time. (Authentication in itself works fine, it is getting an IP address that is the problem.) What I mean is the following:

1. I start up the computer

2. I connect to the network just fine

3. Suppose now I turn Airport off

4. Then I turn Airport on again

5. Now it doesn't work anymore! I still get authenticated (PEAP) fine, but I now get a "self-assigned IP address" and can no longer connect to the Internet.

6. When I restart, the same happens, i.e., "go back to step 1"

It seems as if the computer keeps a wrong cache of something, which is only cleared after restart?

It is not a big deal, would have been worse if I couldn't connect at all, but still quite annoying that I have to restart every time.

OS X Yosemite :: Prevent Unwanted WiFi Network Joining?

Dec 10, 2014

this evening, a neighbor's xfinity wireless network kept flashing what appeared to be web pages on my MBPro screen. They weren't attached to any browser I was running.

I'd close these pages (ads to join xfinity) but they'd keep coming back. Then I noticed that I'd been booted from my own wireless network, and xfinity was the active network!

It feels predatory, this behavior. How can I set up our Macs to prevent this ever happening again? When I join our wifi in our home, I don't want any other signal to elbow in, so to speak.

Or, if there's some kind of interruption in our wifi signal, I don't want some other network elbowing in.

However it happened, how can I set it up such that, if I didn't authorize a wifi network, it will be prevented from joining me to it?

Software :: Error Joining Airport Network With Secure Option

Apr 7, 2006

I am using a Ibook G4 with Mac OS 10.4.3 Tiger with up to date upgrades. I have been facing this problem for a month now and I have tried every possible option. It was working very fine until then for past 5 months. Problem: "There was an error joining the airport network". The problem comes only when I make my network secure. If I make it open, it works fine. I don't want to keep my network open and unsecure, so the problem keeps bothering me.

Things I have tried.
1. I have tried removing all the old passwords in the keychain and deleting all the previous networks it remembered. no difference, same error.
2. I have tried several other things suggested in different forums and articles, nothing really gave any results.
3. I finally got my OS reloaded with erase and Install option.. still the same error message comes. I have my Interferece robustness on and other PC computer connected to the same network works fine. I have even tried changing the router from Netgear to Linksys, nothing really worked.

Applications :: OS X Software For Splitting & Joining Mpegs & Avis With Minimal User Interaction?

May 6, 2005

I'm looking for OS X software for splitting and joining mpegs and avis with minimal user interaction. ie. I don't want to have to use a movie editor and drag all the clips in, arange them and then export them, I'd like to just drag and drop them into a box and press 'join' In windows I was using PeckJoin for AVIs and Ordix Mpack for Mpegs, but I haven't found anything quite like them for OS X. I'm perfectly willing to use CLI tools or X11 tools if you know of any as well. Under linux (and OS X) I can join these files just by 'cat'ing them together on the command line, but that has problems if you are missing a file, or if one is named improperly, or is missing frames. Its nice to have a program that will give you warnings about these things

OS X :: Mac 10.6.2 - Unable To Connect To To Networks And VPN

Mar 10, 2010

I am currently attempting to assist a lady who is experiencing many issues connecting to wireless networks and using VPN software to connect to our resources. I will provide as much detail as I can, however this has been an ongoing job involving myself and quite a few other support officers. I am, historically, a PC user. I can provide some basic Mac support, but only what I have been trained in. I am now seeking assistance, as I have reached the limit of my knowledge. An issue was raised with myself when this lady first called and reported that she was having trouble connecting her VPN client (from Cisco) while connected to a remote wireless connection.

I went through some basic troubleshooting (what errors are you getting, etc.) and eventually discovered that the client was using a static IP (Self assigned in Mac-speak). I was perplexed that the lady would be using this and asked some more probing questions. Turns out, the hotel that she is staying in does not have any wireless connections available and she is using next doors' (shady, I know). One of her friends informed her that the best way to connect would be to use this static IP (10.1.1.2). This means that multiple computers would be connecting to the same network with the same IP address. I informed her that static IPs are meant to be unique to all computers on the network and that having overlapping ones may cause conflicts. When she changed this back to DHCP, she then lost all network activity. the Airport device was turned on, but not connected to anything......................
