Intel Mac :: Why Do Network Preferences Keep Changing And Disconnecting WiFi After Sleep
May 9, 2012
I have an iMac OS X 10.7.3 (purchased in late 2010) with all updates current. I use AirPort to connect to my Linksys router with a WPA2 password.
Nearly everytime I wake my computer from sleep, my wireless router is disconnected, even when I have set my settings and clicked on the lock to prevent further changes. My router always shows on the list of available connections with full strength, but it is more often than not extremely difficult to get it connected again. It says "Could not join "myRouter". A connection time out occured."Â I usually have to use the assistant and go through the steps, which usually includes re-typing my password four to five times before it agrees that I know my own password (which is fairly simple to type, I can't possibly be entering it incorrectly that many times).
I downloaded and installed an update [URL] that quote: "resolves an issue that may cause an iMac to not automatically connect to a known Wi-Fi network after waking from sleep. It is recommended for all iMac (Late 2009 or newer) users running 10.7.3." Â
I tried setting a new location, and set the DHCP setting under TCP/IP to be manual. I was successful in connecting to the internet that time, and locked the settings to prevent further changes, yet the first time my computer woke from a sleep, the lock was unchecked and the settings were changed back to automatic. And I was disconnected yet again.Â
This has been going on for months, but in the last couple weeks I have found I am now unable to lock the lock to prevent changes, no matter if my Location is set to automatic or one that I have created. Really looking for resolution as this is wasting so much time, I am on and off the computer multiple times a day.Â

I have a month old iMac 21.5" running Lion and a 17" Macbook Pro on SL From out of the box, I have had wifi issues with the iMac that have become worse since installing the wifi update last week. While my Macbook connects and stays connected with no issue, the iMac dropps the connection and looses all Access Points every 30 minutes to an hour. This is becoming a real head ache as I do allot of Facetime / Webnars.Â

I work wireless and I my IMac disconnects from the network several times in the day. It is pretty frustrating. My internet provider did every thing even changing the wires out side my house. The rather is located two matters from my computer. It is new as it is my IMac. I took my IMac to Futureshop and they said every thing is fine.

I am Running a 2.8Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 24" iMac running Mac OS X 10.7.3. I run time machine to backup to an external Seagate 3TB, FreeAgent GoFlex Desk, FireWire Drive. When the Mac goes into sleep mode, the Seagate drive un-mounts. When the Mac wakes up, I get an error that the drive was not properly disconnected and the drive is no longer mounted. The only way I can get the drive to remount, is to remove power from the drive for several seconds and then reconnect it.

Based upon my inability to update my iPad2 with its latest iOS 5.0.1, I was encouraged to and did change my DSN preferences in system preferences to the two Google ones (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). I think what I replaced were the original preferences put in place by my Internet provider, Charter.net. Are there adverse consequences of changing the DSN, and should I change them back to those placed there originally?

My laptop drops the wi-fi connection every time the cover closes for sleep mode. It just started doing that recently. What settings should I do to make it stay connected? My other Apple devices continue to work normally.

I am running OS X 10.4.11 on a "pod" iMAC. When I open system preferences and click on network, I get a pop up window that states my network preferences have been changed by another application. When I click on the green "OK" box the pop up goes away and comes right back. This is driving me crazy because when it gets into this cycle it's almost impossible to get out of the preferences panel or even check the settings! It's like it gets into a closed loop and won't let you do anything.

So i opened up my mid 2007 iMac and changed the hard drive and cpu, and its all up and running correctly with a clean install of Lion, except that my wifi seems to be slow! It connects to the network and loads webpages slowly, and doing a system update it says it'll take 700hours to download the 1.5gb combined update... I then tilted back the screen and the connection speed improved and i managed to download the update in a couple of hours... so still a poor speed... Im guessing I either left the wifi card poorly connected or got the main and aux antenna cables wrong way round, does anyone know where the white and black cable go? Or which is which? Also, what do these cables connect to (the end not connected to the wifi card)?

After downloading Yosemite, my computer (macbook pro) keeps disconnecting my home wifi. I had no problems with my wifi before and my roommates have no problems with it still (they do not have macs). This is only happening at home though, when I go anywhere else, my wifi stays connected. I have tried deleting/forgetting my wifi network and reconnecting, restarting my computer, i searched through my settings but I don't know what to do. It disconnects like every two minutes. When it disconnects and i go to reconnect, the wifi is still there and has full bars, my computer just doesn't stay connected to it.

My macbook pro, running on osx mavericks, disconnects from wifi for no reason. This happens often, but I can't find a solution. I have tried making a new location and deleting all my networks in the network preferences. I have also uncheck "wake for internet access" in the energy preferences. I have reseted my computer multiple times.

Macbook Pro (Mid-2012) Which I purchased 4 months ago.Â
It keeps dropping the signal about every 5 minutes, only on my home network. It's only this device too, since my phone and all of my roomates' devices are unphased. (streaming videos like it's no big deal)Â
This started happening after we lost connectivity with the snow a few days ago here in Seattle. I have tried all sort of troubleshooting, including the DNS thingy and restarting the router.Â

Just updated to 10.7.3 and my iMac is still getting disconnected from WiFi when waking from sleep. Supposedly this latest update was supposed to address that. I never had this problem until the release of Lion.

My son called and said his wi-fi stopped working. His internet connection is good and he can connect directly to the router and get a connection, however, he needs the wi-fi. He has powered down the IMAC,router, modem with no luck. Under network preferences it says not connected, with yellow light. No network IP address for the router as I assume it cannot find it. He is running OS X 10.6

Periodically the wireless network has to be manually reselected in airport even after several attempts to save the preferences. It appears as the preffered network but simply won't stay connected. It is an existing network that has worked just fine with an older PC, and a macbook. The only issue is with keeping the iMac online. Is there a way to correct this so that the "network not selected" nonesense ceases and it remains connected?

Lately I've been noticing that my Airport disconnects about every 10 - 15 mins or so and then reconnects after it searches for a network, which is mine. 99% of the time I'm sitting right in front of my router. I've reset the router, rebooted, reset my pram, and the problem still persists. This issue doesn't occur on my girlfriends HP.

I made the mistake of upgrading (funny word for what I got) to Lion, and ever since, I've had numerous issues with my trusty MacBookPro (2008, 2.4 ghz, 17"). The latest problem has been severly annoying though, and I just would like to see if any of you have some tips I could try out. Basically, every single time I close down the lid to put my computer to sleep, or even after it goes to sleep on it's own, when I go to wake my computer, it no longer is connected to my wi-fi network, and for a period of 2-5 minutes, is acts like it is searching for networks. When this exercise is over, I can use the pull down menu brought up by clicking on the wifi icon to select my network and the computer re-connects. I saw that Apple released an update for 2011 MacBookPro's that had this same issue, and this made the problem even more irritating to me since they failed to address those of us who have older computers that have the same issue. I have tried erasing all known network in the network preferences window using the plus and minus buttons, and then re-adding my network. That didn't work.
