HD to accompany my SSD startup/OS disk in my HackPro and I'm wondering if my media disk makes that much of a difference. The Caviar Greens run cheaper $/GB than the Blue or Black from what I've seen. Would there be much of a difference using a Green as a scratch disk?

I ordered some hard drives for an upcoming low-budget short film the other day. Due to budget constraints I couldn't exactly buy the "ideal" drives, but these will work fine nonetheless. I ended up with the following:(2) WD Caviar Blue 500GB (WD5000AAKS) 7,200-rpm (for camera data capture; 1 primary and 1 backup)(1) WD Caviar Black 640GB (WD6401AALS) 7,200-rpm (for editing and post)After unpacking the drives, I proceeded to run the AJA System Test on each drive to test the read/write speeds and noticed some interesting things. Being a nerd, I was simply curious. And just to preface, all three drives were blank and freshly formatted (Mac OS Extended), with no data previously written to them. Here's what I noticed

I'm in the market for an internal HDD to use as a dedicated TM backup drive. The 2 TB WD Caviar Green is going for about $90 on Amazon right now. Seems like it might be a perfect TM backup drive? It's not that fast, but does that really matter for a TM backup? It's also quiet and doesn't use a lot of power.

I have about 200 gigs of data, split between a pair of Seagate Baracuda 7200rpm drives I bought 3 years ago.
I am thinking on going with a single 500 gig drive for my data, and I can't decide between a Caviar Black, or a Baracuda 7200.12.
I have read that the Caviar Black have incredible performance, , but only for the 1TB since it has 3 platters.
How do the 500gig models compare between WD and Seagate? I just don't have the need for more. My OS and Apps are on the SSD at 23 gigs, and all the rest of my work/personal files take up about 200 gigs.
Which is going to be better, the Black, or the Baracuda? 500 gig models only.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been having a strange issue with my iSight recently. It will work sometimes, and then one day for no reason, it won't. When I open up photo booth it's just black, and the green light won't come on. When I try and video chat, it says the camera is in use, which it obviously isn't. It will let me chat, though, the other person just can't see me. If I restart my computer, the camera will start working again, but the same issue will come back within a few days. About a month ago I called Applecare about this and a palmrest crack, and sent it in. Since I had to turn it off to send it in, though, they didn't see any problem when they received it and thus didn't do anything about it. Once the issue came back again, I took it to an Apple store (about an hour away) so I could show someone in person. The genius sent it in for me and they replaced several parts, but it's happening again! This is very frustrating, and I really don't want to have to make the drive again. My school store sells Macs and I might be able to take it there for them to have a look. I've had a few other issues with this machine, too, do you think they might just consider a replacement at this point? I've had a couple other small issues with the machine in the past (DOA battery, palmrest cracks, stuck pixels).
It's a late '07 Blackbook with plenty of Applecare left. Also, the issue started after (but not right after) I installed Snow Leopard, if that might have anything to do with anything.
I am getting a green line and a black open space on the side of my Mac Mini TV when I set it up. I have tried every different resolution and it is still there. The problem is that when I click Detect Displays, nothing happens to the screen.

I've an early 2008 macbook Pro with geforce 8600 graphic cards.Since a few days i've problems with it, during a session my screen become a little green and pink and I've sometime the kernel panic message.When i restart, i've green and black bars on the screen, the apple is not in the middle and the mac freeze.I can't start with the recovery, even on the usb recovery disk, because after the choice of the recovery, the mac begin and freeze.I've ever try to begin in single user mode with fsck -fy command, sometime it resolve the problem but now nothing at all.

I'm looking for a few good ways to transport and use my UMB. I figure buying a hardshell case & a timbuk2 bag seem like a good combo. Question is - which do you guys think is better, the Speck or Incase cases? Anyone have any experiences? I had the Incase hardshell for my old whitebook.
Seemed to work out alright. The other option I thought of was getting the invisible shield. Anyone have any thoughts?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

Anyone ever gotten a green screen? Last time I saw one, the logic board died. I'm hoping that's not what happened here.I was ripping some videos on my MacPro 1,1 (2006) when all of the sudden the computer crashed and the screen turned green. Now, everytime I restart it won't go past it.it's not the motherboard cuz that's an expensive fix!

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe just upgraded to LION 10.7.4 and I'm noticing on a few of my Quicktime movies - when paused, the screen turns green? THAT'S never happened before. I'm sure it's an upgrade issue, when I go back to our clone from last week, it doesn't do that! We use QT Pro 7.66. on a MacBook Pro (about 1 1/2 years old) - always perfect results, but now this? No big deal, just a little annoying. It only does this on a few of the movies we've exported out of Final Cut Pro. Can't find the pattern?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro 1,1. Tonight the display starting looking like the screen shot attached. Then it wouldn't come up at all. Black screen, with a few bands of green pixels.
My first thought is that the Graphics Card is going bad. Odd thing is, though, that I captured this via screen capture from another Mac. Could it still be a bad GPU if it looks this way remotely? I'm not sure how these early Mac Pros work. I have Mac minis that, when the display is off (or headless), the GPU is not used to render the GUI via screen sharing. So, I tried disconnecting the display from the Mac Pro, and I get the same screen shot.
I can boot the Mac Pro into Safe Mode, but that is it.

The last days I've had some problem with my MacBook. The machine hung 3 times - it went to a gray screen with a light gray box about 5"X3" with a light colored power switch as a background, that says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button" (then says it in French, German, and what looks like Chinese letters maybe?)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought this Late 2007 macbook off of craigslist, and it was working perfectly. But after a little water got mon my macbook and charger, I plugged it in and it had a bright green light and wouldn't charge. The Next day I plugged it in and it only had a dim green light, it wouldn't Start up without the battery, or run without it. Now all I need is the battery in it to start it up and it will run off of the charger, But it still has that dim green light. The charger is a little Damaged, Photo's In the attachments. My dog chewed on it a while back. This is my first macbook, And the dvd drive is not working, but I have managed to reinstall SL with USB, So it is not a software problem.
