The last days I've had some problem with my MacBook. The machine hung 3 times - it went to a gray screen with a light gray box about 5"X3" with a light colored power switch as a background, that says "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button" (then says it in French, German, and what looks like Chinese letters maybe?)
View 4 RepliesMy G4 MDD Dual 1.25 has become a little unstable in the last few days, applications keep hanging, or just refuse to start (not responding message seen if I force quit) and it?s now a bit temperamental about shutting down or seeing flashcards. Now the only thing I done in recent days is install a Firmtek SeriTek/1S2 SATA controller, could this be the cause of this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy last Backup was on May 9th, about the time we recieved our Software Update. Since then it gets to a certain point in the Backup, and just hangs for hours and hours. For example, it will get to 17.22 out of 20.6 GB on the backup. I leave it be, and come back two hours later...and it's still at 17.22 out of 20.6 GB of the bckup. I have no idea what's causing it. I think it's one particular file it won't backup. First off, how do I find out which one, and second, has this been happening to anyone else since the update?

Like many here I am a reasonably 'savvy' user but have got very grey over the past week or so. I run an aged and trusted G4 and took a number of decisions recently - to add a second HD, to upgrade to Leopard from Tiger, to upgrade to the 2008 Mac Office and to install CS4 (all legal).
I am getting major problems with the machine hanging up and believe that it is to do with Leopard and CS4 (the latter of which I wish to remove). So, the nub of my question is whether I can revert the machine to Tiger and if so, how!
Our eMac seems to be developing a green tint in the bottom right hand corner of its screen. I've done some quick searching online and it seems that a few people have suggested a cold boot so it runs the degaussing process on a startup.
I left the eMac off for about an hour, unplugged. It did the degauss once it was plugged back in and "seems" to have removed nearly all of the green tint.
There are a few threads on various forums when I search on Google about this issue but they have no conclusive reasons why this is happening.
Could my eMac be developing a fault at all? I'm not too sure if anything magnetic has been placed on our table near the eMac so this may be the reason.
Ever since upgrading my 2012 Mac Pro to Yosemite, I cannot get the green Time Machine icon to stick. After the first Time Machine backup, which took many hours, the icon suddenly appeared all by itself. Then after a reboot, the icon reverted back to a generic internal hard drive icon (my Time Machine disk is an internal drive).  I went into settings and re-selected the Time Machine disk, then the icon came back by itself. On the next reboot, it was gone again.Â
I've run Disk Utility and everything appears fine. No, I've verified there is no custom icon set via the Get Info window, nor do I care to use a custom icon as a band-aide to this problem.  I'd like to find/fix the root problem. (I'll only apply a temporary custom icon if this a verified bug in the OS.)Â
Originally, this machine came from Apple as refurbished with Mountain Lion installed. The Time Machine icon was always proper. Just a few days ago, I upgraded from ML to Yosemite when this problem started. Otherwise, AFAIK, Time Machine backups are working fine.

Anyone ever gotten a green screen? Last time I saw one, the logic board died. I'm hoping that's not what happened here.I was ripping some videos on my MacPro 1,1 (2006) when all of the sudden the computer crashed and the screen turned green. Now, everytime I restart it won't go past it.it's not the motherboard cuz that's an expensive fix!

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe just upgraded to LION 10.7.4 and I'm noticing on a few of my Quicktime movies - when paused, the screen turns green? THAT'S never happened before. I'm sure it's an upgrade issue, when I go back to our clone from last week, it doesn't do that! We use QT Pro 7.66. on a MacBook Pro (about 1 1/2 years old) - always perfect results, but now this? No big deal, just a little annoying. It only does this on a few of the movies we've exported out of Final Cut Pro. Can't find the pattern?Â

My screen went green before shutting down... Is this common? It didn't warn me that I had a low battery. We I restarted it I got a screen saying ' The date on my computer was set to before 1/1/2008 and it would cause problems. I checked the time & date and it's got the correct time. it anyone has experienced this I would like to know.

my macbook pro screen has two thin green lines running down the screen from top to bottom. i have run the apple hardware test and it has detected an error. unfortunately i am in a remote village for the next two months and unable to get my macbook to a repair centre. What the thin green lines indicate?, whether the error on the hard drive and the green lines are connected or something different? the lap top seems to be working fine however im concerned that as i cant get to a repair place for the next 2 months whether continued use will damage the computer further?

I had many pieces of video and edited them togeth and exported them to a file then reimported it into an iMovie event. I did the same with the background and combined them together. I did this once before and no trouble.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an early 2008 version of the 17" MacBook Pro. During the process of uploading photos to iPhoto, the screen froze and pink and green pixels appeared. I shut down by the off button and upon on turning it back on found the screen as shown below. The apple appears and then the clock spins for a moment then freezes. I cannot get any further.Â
I've tried booting in Safe Mode and other options I've read when trying to boot but to no avail.Â
Someone said I need to run the AHT but as this was purchased from a friend, I don't have the installation CD's. I've found a DMG file of the AHT but am completely at a loss as to what to do with this.Â
I own a MacPro1,1 that has a Geforce 7300 GT running on it. That video card comes with one Dual-Link DVI port, and anonther that is Single-Link. I just bought a Dell 30" 3008WFP monitor that has a max resolution of 2560x1900.
When I first connected, it worked great. I was getting the max res; life was good. Then I started getting this random green fuzzy screen that would come and go at whim. I couldn't reproduce it, and worse was I have not figured out a way to get rid of it. Early on, just unplugging and replugging in the cable worked. Then that stopped working. Rebooting stopped working. Once i was able to get the green to go away by powering down the display and powering it back up. Yes, totally random.
Here are some more facts:
1. Setting a lower resolution doesn't rid me of the green fuzz effect.
2. If i connect to the same monitor using the single-link DVI port, everything works great, but only reaches 1920X1600 (as expected).
3. Connecting to different monitor using the Dual-Link DVI port works fine, albeit that the other monitor has a lesser max resolution.
4. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and I have all my software updates in place.
5. I've attached a screenshot of what this looks like.
my iBook G3 900mhz now has a green tint that covers the screen. Everything else seems fine. Is this a video card problem? if so, does that involve replacing the mother board?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy A1226 is really giving me fits. It will display persistent vertical pink and green pixel column patterns in windows or over the entire screen at start up. I have twice performed the "PRAM Re-set" with Command-Option-P-R depressed with pwer on and that has worked. But tonight it came back and I had to do it a third time. Is this a potential or probable power/battery problem? I hope someone here is familiar with this!

It changes color from yellow to green. When I pinch the lower side of my display together, it goes back to the blue background color, but still has a distortion to it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a 17" g5 imac and today I was just browsing on Firefox and all of a sudden the screen became checkered with thin pink and white lines. It is most noticeable on the menu bar and anything that is grey or white in color. It is not checkered on the blue background behind my desktop photo. I have an external monitor plugged in as well and the same thing is happening to that monitor.

I have a first generation macbook pro, recently i have been getting neon green and purple blotches appearing on my screen. I was also having a hard drive problem so i swapped that out and installed a fresh copy of OSX 10.4 on there and was still having the green and purple show up so I know that it is hardware related. I also have hooked up an external monitor and they show up on that monitor too so I konw the problem is not related to my monitor.. I downloaded fan control and have found that if I keep my macbook under 53 degrees C then They wont show up nearly as often but they still do. The only problem with this is that to keep it under 53 degrees C then I need to have the fans running extremely fast the entire time which is not really solving the problem...any suggestions?
It kinda looks to me like I need to get the logic board replaced, what does that entail.. can I do it myself? im pretty good with computers and electronics. I don't have apple care and the warrenty has definelty been voided or is expired..what kind of $$ am I looking at?

Suddenly yesterday when I powered mi iMac I had some horizontal green bars on the startup screen then it powered normally. But it happened two times, now every time I power on my iMac the screen stay black, and i can use my computer, everything else is working normally (i still can use Alfred to turn off my computer).Â
I already tried resetting the Command+Option+P+R, it didn't work. Also the Safe mode.Â
I have a mid-2011 27' iMac. EMC 2429.
My tibook .867Ghz was working fine this morning, but now when I restarted it this afternoon, the colors are all off (lots of green and rapidly vibrating pixels in background). The computer works, I can run programs and so forth. There are no changes to the displays settings, still 1280x854 and colors "millions". When I switch to thousand or 256 colors there is no significant change.
