MacBook Pro :: 2008 Stay Freeze At Start With Black And Green Bars?
Jun 13, 2012
I've an early 2008 macbook Pro with geforce 8600 graphic cards.Since a few days i've problems with it, during a session my screen become a little green and pink and I've sometime the kernel panic message. When i restart, i've green and black bars on the screen, the apple is not in the middle and the mac freeze.I can't start with the recovery, even on the usb recovery disk, because after the choice of the recovery, the mac begin and freeze.I've ever try to begin in single user mode with fsck -fy command, sometime it resolve the problem but now nothing at all.

Been having a few huge issues with my new MBA 13".
#1 - Putting the laptop to sleep. I put the laptop to sleep and put it in the bag and at some point it wakes back up. If I don't remove it during the day by that afternoon/evening when I go to remove it the battery is at 0% and it's fully discharged. One day I took it out a couple hours in and the fan was blowing like mad like it had been running for a while, when I opened the lid I had a black screen and it was frozen. Disabled waked for network access but it was no help.
#2 - When the laptop goes in standby and I open it back up I get a beach ball forever - I've tried to let it go for upwards of 30 minutes and it never unfreezes, but I can move the mouse around. I ended up telling the laptop not to standby when it was plugged in to a power source otherwise I ended up always losing work.

I have a 19-inch Envision EN9410e LCD flat panel monitor. Right now I did a mirror display setup. The native resolution of this monitor is 1280 x 1024. When I went to System Preferences to change it to that resolution my LCD monitor shows the Snow Leopard desktop but it's in the middle of two black bars. I had to revert to 1024 x 768 resolution to not have the black bars show. Is there a way I can change it to the native resolution and not have the black bars on the top and bottom show up on the screen?

The battery don't charge and the power adapter light stays green, I didn't noticed it before the battery was empty. I have had problems with the adapter before and just reconnected the power a couple of times and it starts to charge again and the light turns orange but if I touch the adapter now the computer shuts down.

I have the infamous bugged model, the Late 2008 Macbook Pro. Famous for its screen flickering on the 9400M Nvidia graphics card.
I am currently using the 9600GT Nvidia card, and have some across a few... problems. First of which: Hard Freezing. I know this will happen occasionally, but I had to shut down my computer 3 times in 4 days because of a hard freeze. 2 of the times, the hard freeze was accompanied by my screen just going absolutely CRAZY.
Here is a slight example of what it's doing, but it's not exact (since both times it did something different):
[URL]
Both times, before the hard freeze and flickering, my iStat Pro told me my CPU temp was between 99 degrees Fahrenheit and 103 degrees Fahrenheit. I am wondering if these low temperatures could have ANYTHING to do with the freezing. This problem has just cropped up recently, and I have never had such low temperatures on my mac. I have Fan Control installed because my fans on my laptop weren't cooling off my laptop well enough... the 9600M GT card runs really hot.

Today I left my MBP on without the Power Adapter for calibration. Three hours later, when I arrived home, I found it with a black screen, unresponsive (didn't respond to any key or mouse movement whatsoever). No, the battery wasn't empty of charge, it still had half the charge! This is the second time this happens to me, I can't seem to think of a reason for this to happen.
I believe JDownloader was open, but not doing any downloads, but I'm not sure whether it was open or not, but besides it, nothing else was open.

Just got a refurbished 27" Imac I5 with the Radeon 4850 yesterday. This happened twice yesterday, so today, when I powered on I had my blackberry ready to record. As you can see theres a large green band (yesterday it was accompanied with a red one) that spans the vertical aspect of the screen. The bars disappear after 30-1min.I've tried searching and haven't found anyone with a similar problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGK3LYb23mc

I have a 2007 MacBookPro. shortly after installing Lion 10.7.3 and VectorWorks 2011 I started getting vertical blue and black lines across my screen on startup. They remain with in the apple while the computer boots and the everything freezes. I tried all of the usual fixes, recovery, safe boot, reset PRAM, battery, etc. When I tried to boot of a system disc I get a message sating that I need to restart my computer. Upon restart same problem occurs. 2 months ago I took the whole thing apart and cleaned out the guts. Reconnecting all cables back together, I came across, what I think is the camera cable. Since my camera has been erratic, i decided to test the problem with it connected and then disconnected. Connected same problem. Once i unplugged the camera everything went back to normal, until now. The same problem returned. I cleaned out the guts again. This time I unplugged the hard drive to try and boot off the C drive, but still get the same problem. This morning It decided to boot up. I was able to copy my essential files onto an external drive.

When I started my computer this evening, it froze immediately after starting up. (I have had three start up items for over a year: Dashboard, iTunes, and Chrome). Then after I unplugged it and removed the battery to restart it (nothing else would work), it was extremely slow to restart. I had to then Option-Command-Escape out of each progrma that starts up, and when I started Chrome again, it was very slow. After some time, it started to pick up speed again, like starting a car engine on a cold winter morning.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my father has 17", both 2007 model.
I bought a new Samsung XL2370 external monitor (1920 x 1080) for my notebook. When I connect it to the 17" model, it works fine and gives me the full picture.
However, when I connect it to my 15" MBP, even at 1920 x 1080, the display gets cropped on two sides with black bars.
If I change the resolution to 1680 x 1050, then the whole screen is filled. But if I put it to 1920 x 1080, this happens.

I've been having a strange issue with my iSight recently. It will work sometimes, and then one day for no reason, it won't. When I open up photo booth it's just black, and the green light won't come on. When I try and video chat, it says the camera is in use, which it obviously isn't. It will let me chat, though, the other person just can't see me. If I restart my computer, the camera will start working again, but the same issue will come back within a few days. About a month ago I called Applecare about this and a palmrest crack, and sent it in. Since I had to turn it off to send it in, though, they didn't see any problem when they received it and thus didn't do anything about it. Once the issue came back again, I took it to an Apple store (about an hour away) so I could show someone in person. The genius sent it in for me and they replaced several parts, but it's happening again! This is very frustrating, and I really don't want to have to make the drive again. My school store sells Macs and I might be able to take it there for them to have a look. I've had a few other issues with this machine, too, do you think they might just consider a replacement at this point? I've had a couple other small issues with the machine in the past (DOA battery, palmrest cracks, stuck pixels).
It's a late '07 Blackbook with plenty of Applecare left. Also, the issue started after (but not right after) I installed Snow Leopard, if that might have anything to do with anything.

I left my laptop on in my room while I went to the bathroom, and when I came out, I saw the message that told me I must restart the computer. The message froze the computer, so I shut it off by holding the power button and tried to turn it back on again, but it only boots to a black screen. I don't hear the loud hard drive noise, but I hear the fans. Without AC power but with the charged battery, the computer shuts down after a few seconds. The light on the button that opens the lid is dim-to-none when the lid is open and bright when the lid is closed.
I tried many troubleshooting methods discussed on this site, like removing and reseating the RAM and draining the battery, along with the things that the Apple website suggested, like resetting the SMC and PRAM, but nothing works.
I brought the computer into an Apple Store, and after the NVIDIA test was negative, the technician told me that the problem is most likely the logic board. I also took the computer into an Apple Authorized Service Provider, and the technician there said it could be the logic board, hard drive, or boot connector. He also said that there is a very slight chance that the graphics card could have caused the logic board to fail. He tried my computer with another battery and concluded that it's not the battery's fault.
The Apple Store is charging me about $330 for a flat-rate repair. Should I troubleshoot further using suggestions you may have or pay Apple for repairs? If I decide to have Apple repair my laptop, do I need to take it back into the store to pay the repair charges, or can I do it over the phone and mail the computer to Apple?

I have a 2008 MacBook and it was working perfectly fine until one day I was using it and the screen instantly faded to black. I first thought my battery power had shut off, so then I closed the laptop but that little light on right front side was still blinking meaning the computer was still on. I then shut down the computer and turned it back on but as it started the screen was its normal brightness for about 3 seconds then it quickly went black again. If I shine a light on the screen I can barely make out what it shows, which is my normal screen when I open up the laptop. Did my screen somehow break from overuse or does have to do with the battery?

HD to accompany my SSD startup/OS disk in my HackPro and I'm wondering if my media disk makes that much of a difference. The Caviar Greens run cheaper $/GB than the Blue or Black from what I've seen. Would there be much of a difference using a Green as a scratch disk?

I have a problem: when I restart my Early 2008 MacBook Pro there is no "chime" and the screen remains black. The keyboard doesn't light up or respond to any input, and worse still, the "lid button" light on the front of the notebook remains illuminated, it doesn't blink, it just stays on, shining in my face. I loaded a CD into the optical drive to see if I could use the keyboard to eject it, but this test failed. Now, when I turn on my MBP, I hear the optical drive spinning and the quiet whirr of the fan inside.
I looked on Apple's support website about what to do when a Mac refuses to boot. I tried all of the methods they listed, but since my Mac doesn't respond to keyboard input, all of the techniques failed. Having exhausted everything I could think of, I decided to post here hoping someone could suggest something. I was just on the verge of completing my portfolio website and I would like to salvage my data at least.

My Mac stats: Mac G5 DT/1.8 GHz / OS 10.5.4 / 2.0 GB SDRAM with all current system downloads; I bought this Mac new from Mac connection approximately three years ago. The problems I've been experiencing for many months:
1. Seldom, but occasionally my Mac will fail to start up causing me to do a forced shutdown by holding in the power button. If I delay doing this for a while (a minute or two), the Mac fan comes on rather loud. After a minute or so after the forced shutdown, I try start up again and Mac starts up OK.
2. Seldom, but occasionally my Mac 'freezes'/cursor will not move, causing me do perform the forced shutdown as described above.
3. When I wake Mac from Sleep mode, there is a 'pop/snap' sound which is very audible depending on the volume setting I am using.
NOTE: In case I had any defective SDRAM modules, I replaced them with new high quality ram modules.
