everytime i unplug computer from wall outlet after a storm,,,,the external speakers wont work when i reboot...so i went to the sound on preference and the output channel will only list headphones and no option for external speakers.

i'm using my mac mini with the ACD 24" and i get the sound from the screen because it is "very slightly bettter" than the speaker of the mac mini (even if both are quite disappointing)
when i connected external speakers on the jack of the mini, it is simply impossible even with the soft soundsource to switch audio outputs on the fly
external speakers seem to have the priority over other outputs
is there a way to get through it ?
I have owned my MacBook Pro since June 2010, and have always used a pair of independently powered (via adapter) external Dell speakers for audio output. Since upgrading to Lion about 1 month ago, I was having intermittent audio issues, which were resolved by re-starting my computer (not ideal but it worked). Today, the speakers just stopped working. The internal speakers work, but when I plug the externals into the headphone port, they don't produce sound. Earbuds in the same port also don't work (I know the earbuds are good). The external speakers are being recognized by the sound panel in system preferences.

For some reason, I can't get Logic Express 8 to output audio to my Mac's attached speakers. It outputs fine through my M-Audio interface, though, but I'd just like to listen without headphones.

I recently purchased a set of Logitech Z-5500 speakers. I have the proper optical cable, and all my speakers are set up properly. For whatever reason, I can't get 5.1 to output from my Macbook Pro when using iTunes.
Audio MIDI Setup is currently set to 44100.0 Hz 2ch-32bit digital output. I can't change it to 5 channel. (I don't know anyone who has to, anyway.)
I am streaming iTunes to another room using an Audioengine AW1 (over usb, not the analog input) and it works fine. Looking at JACK audio, Soundflower or Apple's AudioMIDI utility, I feel I should be able to use one or a combination of these resources to output iTunes to both the AW1 and my desktop's headphone port. Unfortunately, I can't seem to perform both. Well, technically I can in using a "y" audio cable to output from the Mac headphone port to headphones and to the analog-in on the AW1's, but that really doesn't work adequately. The output volumes are considerably lower and tied together. I am looking to figure out how to add a usb audio device as another, and simultaneous output.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI usually listen to any output from my iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz, 27", early 2010) through an external amp and speakers, via the analog output (headphone socket). However - I recently disconnected the jack plug to listen through the machine's internal speakers but was greeted with silence. I checked the volume via the kb controls - the mini display appeared on screen suggesting that the volume was set on full, though I could not adjust it at all. I reconnected the jack plug and sound came out from my external speakers as usual. On disconnection, no volume. I searched the forums for ideas, and came across this support article: [url],,, which I followed to the letter.
When I open 'Sounds' in System Preferences, the only output option available to me is 'Digital Out' - there is no option for internal speakers or headphones. However, if I plug in the line-out jack, the options change - only 'Headphones' is available (no 'Digital Out' any more). Following the article, I checked to see if there was a red light in the digital output socket, which there is not.

I've recently started using headphones more and more and something that really bothers me is that I can't change the output source to the Mac's speakers unless I unplug the headphones entirely. Is there a way to do this without unplugging the headphones? I've looked through Audio MIDI Setup Utility as well as the Sound system preferences but found nothing.

In the system preferences, 'built in speakers' are no longer an option for audio output. Just 'digital out'. Optimally I would like to have a pair of speakers set in the living room that I can automatically wirelessly stream my iTunes music to.
Right now the only ones that I have seen (via this forum and on the web) that I can directly connect an Airport Express to are the AudioEngine A5. I believe with these you literally plug the airport express to the back of them, if I understand them correctly.
Is there a list somewhere of speakers that are Airport Express enabled or can others provide alternatives to the AudioEngine A5?
A couple of months ago my internal speakers in my mac mini, I think a 2007, the speakers are not working, even with external speakers. when i click the sound +,- button the sound icon shows with a full bar but the speaker has a circle with a slash around it. I went ot system preferences and the sound area and the system says that there are no internal speakers. The thing is it does. Is it cause of the version of os x lion i have or is there something corrupt in the hardware.

It works - the fan speed changes - for about half a second (maybe less) and then stops. Has anybody else had this problem?

the external speakers (and the earphones) I use for my i-mac suddenly stopped playing sound from my imac. They do work though when I plug them to the i-pod. My imac speakers work perfectly. Any ideas what's happening?

i'm hoping someone can help me out on this little problemmy usual set up is a pair of speakers connected with jacks via an m-audio usb audio interface, with an external monitor connected via mini-dvi to dvi.now for some reason my audio interface has randomly broken (on a side note, could a power cut have somehow broken a usb peripheral connected to my macbook whilst it was asleep?) so i've hooked up my speakers to the line out to rca. Now for some reason, when i plug the mini dvi connector into my macbook i get an incredible amount of hum. not just a little, alot!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes.  The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.Â
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility.   You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.
when i plug in the converter, the mac recognizes it and readjusts the screen
on the tv, (my older read projection) ,all i see is grey squiggly lines, not snow.. the picture is there but it is not converted properly. i cant see anything. i press command f1 and something usually happens and goes back to the grey shit.
i try it on my hd tv, and it just says /'no signal/', so i am assuming that the picture isnt getting converted properly. could it be my converter, or is it something in the output setting or the mini divi port? the converter i got was one from best buy- dynex, and it has a mini dvi male, and a female composite and s-video.
