Aug 5, 2007I've just purchased a new sr macbook pro 2.4 ghz. when i plug the macbook pro to external speakers, the quality is really bad, no bass, just high tones. I allready checked the equalizer in Itunes and I turned the bass all the way up, but the sound was still horrible...
When I connect my macbook pro to a tv (via dvi to video adaptor) The sound of the external speakers goes even worse. The adapter causes like a weird tone in the bass...
does anyone know how to fix this?

Apr 22, 2012I have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes.  The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.Â
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility.   You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.
Hardware :: Connect Mac Mini To Altec Lansing Surround Speakers?
Apr 5, 2009after searching and searching the web ... and now have searched through this forum. I wonder if I am barking up the wrong tree. I am converting from PC to Mac ... my Altec Lansing ACS54 speakers have a L/R (front) 1/8 plug and SS/L/R 1/8 plug. I was looking for a USB external sound card & software to give me surround sound ... however, most are for PCs only ... and some indicate that for Mac, only the front speakers will work. Speakers sound OK with front and woofer using my Mini's single output jack ... but I sure miss having surround. Frankly ... I've always heard Mac's were much better for music and media than PCs ... and as a result have been surprised and frustrated by this experience. But, I digress ... does anyone here know of a good USB external soundcard that works and gives a 5-speaker viewing/control software panel so my new Mini can produce surround sound?

May 16, 2012After upgrading to Lion on my Macbook Air, I can't seem to be able to connect to my external speakers through airport express. Somehow I can't get the little icon I used to do, on the bottom right corner of the iTunes window (on the left of genius) to select the speakers. I checked the preferences in vain.

Jun 14, 2012everytime i unplug computer from wall outlet after a storm,,,,the external speakers wont work when i reboot...so i went to the sound on preference and the output channel will only list headphones and no option for external speakers.

However, I was wondering if I could replace the existing satellite speakers with bookshelf speakers (like Klipsch RB-10 s). I'm hoping this will work because I want to increase the audio output of my system without spending money on an amplifier.

Apr 5, 2010i'm hoping someone can help me out on this little problemmy usual set up is a pair of speakers connected with jacks via an m-audio usb audio interface, with an external monitor connected via mini-dvi to dvi.now for some reason my audio interface has randomly broken (on a side note, could a power cut have somehow broken a usb peripheral connected to my macbook whilst it was asleep?) so i've hooked up my speakers to the line out to rca. Dec 13, 2009I'm looking at getting a MacBook Pro, and hooking it up to my Dell monitor and Logitech speakers when at home. Both the SP/DIF and coax connection on the speakers are free right now, so I need to know what cable I'd have to buy to connect the MacBook Pro to either of these 2 connections? I asked the online chat section of the Apple website, to which they replied they had no such cable, and proceeded to cut me off rather than providing a solution - doesn't exactly fill you with much confidence when buying into a premium product!
Can someone let me know what cable it is I require? It must be capable of producing 5.1 sound on the speakers.

Jun 13, 2012A couple of months ago my internal speakers in my mac mini, I think a 2007, the speakers are not working, even with external speakers. when i click the sound +,- button the sound icon shows with a full bar but the speaker has a circle with a slash around it. I went ot system preferences and the sound area and the system says that there are no internal speakers. The thing is it does. Is it cause of the version of os x lion i have or is there something corrupt in the hardware.

Apr 15, 2012After upgrading to Lion, there seems to be very little sound coming from my external speakers. Speakers work with other devices but not so much with MacBook Pro. In iTunes, the volumn slider is maxed out with the speaker volumn on the keyboard maxed out too. Used to blast out the house, but not now.Â
Don't know if it's as a result of the upgrade or not. I did a PRAM reset but still nothing.Â

Everything works fine and there is no buzz or sound except for the music of course until I plug my printer in. I know the obvious solution is to unplug the printer when listening to music but the printer is shared and other people print off of it etc. and I was wondering if anyone knew why this happens.

Jun 28, 2014where the external speakers i am running through my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface have ceased producing any sound at all when linked in to the Macbook Pro . I have plugged them in elsewhere and they are working fine , so that is not the issue . Â
i had performed the software update on my Macbook pro to get OSX 10.9.3 . I have gone in to sound settings and made certain that both input and output are set to the Saffire interface . A signal is certainly coming through and sound can be recorded , so input is fine . I have also done this in both Garageband and Logic , to no avail . However this issue is effecting ALL sound in the sense that nothing is coming out at all from any source . No sound is coming out headphones when plugged in to the interface.Â
Thought it might be the interface but this literally happened as soon as i tried using my set up with the new OSX 10.9.3 software installed . Oh and i also get an error message whilst playing a track on garageband : "Error while trying to synchronize audio and midi...Sample rate 42212 recognized , check conflict between garage band and external device". Here's a reminder of gear used :Â

Jul 12, 2008I have a problem with the headphone jack of my macbook. When i plug in some headphones or external speakers, it wont get sound to them, just like the headphone jack isn't there and the sound come out from the macbook speakers. The only ones that seem to work are the ipod original ones, but not if insert them completely, they need to be strategically plug in, like half in and half out, and if i move it a bit more the sound goes back to the speakers again. Does anyone knows what this might be and how to fix it? I can't use the warranty, because the warranty time already passed.
