A headphone jack got stuck in my macbook pro as it fell down in a plane going thru turbulences (lucky me!).So that now it thinks there are headphones connected while there is nothing...I wont be anywhere near an apple store for the next month so I was just wondering if it was possible to force the use of the internal speakers over the output jack?

Currently I have my heaphones jack Line-In routed to my AV Receiver for iTunes music in my room, but whenever I am YouTubing or other stuff while listening to music the System Sounds come out of my Loudspeakers too. I am interested in routing only the iTunes audio through the headphone jack, and everything else to run through my iMac's internal speakers (2007 iMac AL).I saw the SoundFlower thing out there but didn't think that was the ticket

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy sound keeps turning off. When I check the settings, the output device switches randomly between Internal and Digital output. I have no idea where the Digitial Output is coming from and this started about a month again. It switches randomly and then I loose all sound for a few seconds. Sometimes it happens once then stops for a few days, other times it switches back and forth for 5 min. No idea!!!Â

Is it possible by any means to use the headphone output and the built in speakers together.The reason I ask is I have a wireless speaker which transmits from the headphone jack. When this is plugged in it sends everything playing on my MBP to the speaker. This is great but I would also like the music to play from my laptop speakers at the same time.

This started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.

A day later, the noise was only coming from the internal speakers and the headphone jack no longer works. I have the speakers plugged in and the sound still comes from the internal speakers with intermittent high frequency noises and whistling. However - I recently disconnected the jack plug to listen through the machine's internal speakers but was greeted with silence. I checked the volume via the kb controls - the mini display appeared on screen suggesting that the volume was set on full, though I could not adjust it at all. I reconnected the jack plug and sound came out from my external speakers as usual. On disconnection, no volume. When I open 'Sounds' in System Preferences, the only output option available to me is 'Digital Out' - there is no option for internal speakers or headphones. However, if I plug in the line-out jack, the options change - only 'Headphones' is available (no 'Digital Out' any more). Following the article, I checked to see if there was a red light in the digital output socket, which there is not.

I recently installed windows vista (home edition) via bootcamp on my macbook pro.
Everything is running perfectly apart from the sound. I think it might an issue with the computers sound card. When I plug my headphones into the audio output jack, no sound comes through... it still plays out of the speakers. The sound is audible, but just barely.
What may be causing this? Are there any specific drivers I need to install?
I had a 3,5 mm stereo jack in my audio output on my macbook, and it broke inside. Is it possible to redirect the sound output to go through the input jack?

And yesterday it finally got stuck on "Digital Output" meaning when I take out headphones from the jack, the internal speakers do not work. I woke up this morning and tried to watch a linked video on a webpage. I saw the video, but there was no sound (this had not been a problem the evening before). I am using USB soundsticks, so I checked to make sure that they were plugged in, and they were. I opened iTunes and sound came through the Soundsticks; I switched to the internal speaker and it worked there as well. When I tried the same with another embedded video, however, I only got sound from the internal speaker.
Has anyone had a similar problem or does anyone know how to fix this?
My MacBook Pro seems stuck on digital output thus no sound from speakers. Headphones recognized and work but internal speakers don't revert to default or even show up as a sound option in System Preferences. Any way to get internal speakers back? Restarting computer did not do it.

For reasons unknown the internal sound option has disappeared from my MBA. The little speaker icon on the menu bar is grayed out and nothing comes from the jack. Internal speakers don't even show up as an option under sound output. I do use an Airport Express for external speakers but it's been playing happily with the internal speakers for months.

I had a first gen aluminum 13" Macbook that I spilled beer on. It was basically a write-off, but fortunately the HD was not damaged.I just got my 13" Macbook Pro today, and replaced the new HD with my old one. Everything is working fine, except that there is no sound.When I go to System->Sound I see "No Output devices found", and when I press the sound buttons on the keyboard, the speaker is grayed out.I know this is not a Hardware issue for a couple reasons. First, it properly 'chimes' on startup. Second, I did try running the computer with the new hard drive, and during the sound was working properly, volume adjustment buttons working, etc.

There is a red light coming from the headphone port and the volume can not be adjusted. Is there a software fix, or do I have to take this thing to the genius bar? For some reason, the sound is going in and out on my computer. The left speaker is making an odd noise (a clicking/snapping noise) and whenever I try playing a sound it is playing the sound broken up. The output volume under sound when I go to the system preferences keeps saying the output is at a certain level, but then it says "the selected device has no output controls". It switches between the two every few seconds. It can't be strictly a problem with the speakers because when I plug my headphones in it does the same thing. I have checked all sound levels including Audio Midi in utilities. In system preference the output is Digital Optical and nothing else is available to select. It also says this sound output has no controls - is this correct? The sound icon in the menu top right is greyed out and I can't adjust the level. I have an Apple TV and have turned off airplay on that? Also have checked computer speakers (not Apple TV) in iTunes. I had this problem before but rebooting fixed it. My son plays Minecraft on this computer and watches millions of uTube stuff. He may have used his earphones then. Could this be the problem? Nothing is muted in sys pref or utilities audio midi. The chimes work when starting up. The mic sound levels are moving.
