Intel Mac :: It Doesn't Reconnect Automatically To Router All In A Sudden
Feb 14, 2012
I have used my Imac for about six months without any problems.  All in a sudden it does not always reconect to my router after getting into sleeping mode (not always, but around 8 of 10 times it does not reconect). I have to click on my router that are listed among other routers that it picks up in the neighbours. Â
Imac is of course setup to automatically reconnect to my router in the settings. Â
I have restarted my router as well, and also renamed the router as well to be be sure there are no conflicts. My Router is a Thomson TG789vnÂ

Maybe it's paranoia, but my router kicks my wireless connection only when I'm pirating something.
The solution is just to reconnect. What vexes me most, though, is that OS X (10.5.6) has always already detected my network, but didn't connect to it after being kicked off. It would be comparable to someone being kicked out of a caf, then noticing the caf is still there but just standing around outside doing nothing.
Basically, I want to remove the human element of having to (1) notice the connection is gone, and (2) click on the network to reconnect. I know these are both computable procedures, so I'm asking for a nudge from someone knowledgeable.
I can code just fine, but I've never written any applescripts or applications for OS X. If there isn't already something out there that does these things, can someone suggest what form a solution to this problem would take?

I have read of wireless router issues with MBPs. I have the 13in, 2.26, 2GB (upgraded to 4GB) MBP. When I first got my MBP, I was having to continuously disconnect and reconnect to my router. I assumed I was having the same problems as others on this board have noted. Soon after, however, my work laptop (PC) started having connection issues as well and I have to perform the same process on it. disconnect, reconnect via the laptop, and then everything will work fine for anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours. (Note: on the MBP, things only work fine for 5 mins or so before I have to perform the action again). It seems as though the MBP is more sensitive to the router issues than my PC.
Nonetheless, I am planning to purchase a new wireless router, since mine clearly has issues and it seems to be getting progressively worse. My question: Is there a particular router that seems to work better with MacBook Pros than others? Any that you guys would specifically recommend? (I need it to still work fine with a PC, as well, because of my work laptop)

I've got a mac mini under my TV that I use as a media centre, however, all of the video content is stored on my Mac Pro. All of the video is accessed by two standard shared folders. However, everytime I restart my Mac Pro the shares obviously stop working. I'd like a way to automatically keep these shares alive. I think I'd need something that does the following and would be in a script of sorts (terminal script I guess):On bootup of OS X on the Mac Pro do the following:
1. Connect to the mac mini (maybe via ssh)
2. Close all existing shares on the mac mini
3. Initialise shares on the mac mini
On a different note, any idea how to execute a terminal script in the background at a set time every day? I've got a few lines of code that sync up my iPhoto and iTunes library across my machines and I'd like to schedule it to run at a certain time.

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. I just added a wifi network with a hidden SSID to my saved, preferred networks list. Unlike networks with visible SSIDs, my Mac won't automatically reconnect to it. I hate having to re-enter the password each time.Â

We lost our BT internet connection for a few days. BT eventually sorted it out and it was caused by a problem at the exchange.Â
Before this, the imac automatically connected to the internet whenever we booted up. Now it doesn't and we have to reconnect to the internet each time we boot up. I don't really know the correct way to do this, but what I am doing to connect is to open Safari which then says it can't connect and offers a diagnostics page where I can then go through a process to reconnect. Then it reconnects fine, buty the next time I boot up I have to go through the same process again.Â

These problem occur in a late 2013 Macbook Pro. All of sudden my "5" key doesn't work. But if I press any other number, I will get that number and the "5". All other keys work properly. Other symptoms include a running series of 5s in password boxes. I'm absolutely sure there is no water damage. Usb keyboard works fine. Another symptom is an occasional flickering menu when I pull down say Safari or the Apple icon, such that I can't make a selection. I took the 5 keypad off and it looks and reacts just fine. About 10% of the time this problem disappears. Did a virus scan. I'm running Yosemite.

I was on my Mac and this happens somewhat often. I loose wifi connection and I have to go to the little wifi tab and select my network again. It doesn't ask for my password but it connects again. I am quite irritated with this, and it is embarrassing when my friends who have pcs come over "you have got a stupid Mac!" I love my Mac I don't want to ruin its great reputation.

After about a week I finally managed to reinstall Mac OSX Snow Leopard...I took a RAM stick out at random and it worked...good thing there weren't any Genius bar appointments which suited me. Anyway, now I need to connect a keyboard I've already got my USB keyboard in it (The same size one as the wireless one...but this one's wired) I've unplugged it, plugged it back in. I've dug out my wireless keyboard and nothing's happened (Yes, the green light blinks.I put my iMac to sleep, I turned it off, it still isn't working...Â
I could try and find a wired mouse/keyboard somewhere...but I can't believe my wired Apple keyboard isn't working with it I'm surprised Apple think this wireless stuff is a good thing...I'm more surprised my wired keyboard won't connect. It's an iMac 11,2 (I think - Whatever the late 2010 one was) and I'm running Snow Leopard.Â
Also - When's it safe to put the RAM back in? Or is it actually faulty and I need to get a replacement? How can I check?

I've updated my wireless rounter and also decided to not have it broadcast the network.I can connect to the router no problem by using the option "connect to other network".I also have the box checked that says, remember this network, but my macbook doesn't automatically reconnect after it sleeps or when I turn it off. Would love to understand how to make my macbook automatially reconnect so I don't have to go through the extra steps of reloggin on each time.

I bought a WD 2TB external HD to upgrade my home network. It goes with a Belkin DB N600 (f9k1102) router, a MB, a PC laptop, 2 iphones, 2 ipods, and a new ipad. I created partition for 1.5TB formatted as mac os x (to match the HD on my MB) and .5TB as ms-dos fat (to allow some windows programs and games). I got that set up and when plug the USB in to my mac I see both formatted drives, but when I plug it into my router to access wirelessly it only shows the windows portion of the HD. I went to WD and then to Belkin where I found were it says that the router only supports FAT 16, FAT32, and NTFS. I'm I missing something? It sounds like Belkin products don't support mac os?

To repair permissions I just click a little "Repair Permissions" button. Don't know why nor what it actually does, but I understand that I should do it from time to time.
But if it's so important, why doesn't OS X just do it automatically?

I have finally retired my 13 inch macbook i've had for over 3 years. I bought one of the unibody 13" macbook pros and did a clean snow leopard installation, then upgraded to 10.6.1. Since then my mac experience has gone from bright sunny days to death and doom.
My airport is the major issue, it keeps dropping signal and doesn't pick up my netgear router. it works for 5-10 minutes then just looses it by itself. i try and see if there is an update or something for it but it crashes the airport and i have to switch the airport off and then on again. This is along with all my favorite snow leopard/13" mbp issues which include but not limited to the laptop freezes, hangups, and just failing to come out of sleep mode!!! most of these issues requires me to force restart the machine. I'm now back to my old laptop seeing that I'm struggling to connect wirelessly.

My imac has been working fine for the 5 years I had it.As of last week my mac had been running great. When I open up an app is opens right up. When I jump on Safari it opened right up. Sometimes I keep my imac overnight but let it stay on sleep on mode. Nevertheless, after 3 days of not using it when I cut it on everything started working slow. Apps takes 2 to 3 minutes to load. Safari takes for ever to load and have broken images on the site. I havent used Time Machine since the last week April, but when I left my mac on overnight (just yesterday) to update it, it was stuck on "preparing to back up". That's over 10 hours of preparing, and unable to back up. So bottomline, something has gone wrong and I dont know where to start.  Â
I read on a blog to repair disk to see if that fix the problem. In disk utility when I highlighted the 500 GB hard drive the only 2 option was highlighted, verify disk and repair disk. When I press repair disk, it checked fast with no issues. When I highlight the Macintosh HD which is under the 500GB hard drive, verify disk permssion and repair permission were highlighted. I chose repair permissions and its saying that it will take 1 day and 9 hours to repair. After staring at for almost an hour the progress bar hasn't really moved. Â

I use Backup (the Mac app) to backup some things to my iDisk and others to an hd connected to my airport extreme. It works fine, except for that when the app appears (each day) for the scheduled backup to the network hd, (it sits there waiting, saying ''waiting for volume... and the name of the disk"). I have to go to the finder, open a window, go to 'All' under 'Shared' locations, choose the network hd, click on the folder (there's only one one the disk) and then, and only then, will the backup begin. Is there any way for it to just be able to find the folder by itself and perform the backup without my having to find the folder for it every time?

My iMac has had a sudden decrease in wifi download speed. Upload speed hasn't changed and all othe connected devices still work as normal (the iPad still clocks in at around 30mbps and the iMac used too, now it's at 5.0 mbps). How do I fix the iMac? We have determined that it is not the internet provider and I have exahusted my ideas on how to get the speed back.
