Intel Mac :: All Of A Sudden Music Becomes Very Slow?
May 20, 2012
My imac has been working fine for the 5 years I had it.As of last week my mac had been running great. When I open up an app is opens right up. When I jump on Safari it opened right up. Sometimes I keep my imac overnight but let it stay on sleep on mode. Nevertheless, after 3 days of not using it when I cut it on everything started working slow. Apps takes 2 to 3 minutes to load. Safari takes for ever to load and have broken images on the site. I havent used Time Machine since the last week April, but when I left my mac on overnight (just yesterday) to update it, it was stuck on "preparing to back up". That's over 10 hours of preparing, and unable to back up. So bottomline, something has gone wrong and I dont know where to start.  Â
I read on a blog to repair disk to see if that fix the problem. In disk utility when I highlighted the 500 GB hard drive the only 2 option was highlighted, verify disk and repair disk. When I press repair disk, it checked fast with no issues. When I highlight the Macintosh HD which is under the 500GB hard drive, verify disk permssion and repair permission were highlighted. I chose repair permissions and its saying that it will take 1 day and 9 hours to repair. After staring at for almost an hour the progress bar hasn't really moved. Â
My iMac is all of a suddden very slow and the incoming gmail is no longer working. However my incoming mail works fine on my iPad and other devices? The slowness is on every thing?
for no foreseeable reason my white macbook has suddenly slowed in speed when browsing pages, they load justa s fast it just takes ages form typing a URL to start loading, my other desktop is fine and the line is 100MB download steady so its not web speed.
I have used my Imac for about six months without any problems.  All in a sudden it does not always reconect to my router after getting into sleeping mode (not always, but around 8 of 10 times it does not reconect). I have to click on my router that are listed among other routers that it picks up in the neighbours. Â
Imac is of course setup to automatically reconnect to my router in the settings. Â
I have restarted my router as well, and also renamed the router as well to be be sure there are no conflicts. My Router is a Thomson TG789vnÂ
My iMac has had a sudden decrease in wifi download speed. Upload speed hasn't changed and all othe connected devices still work as normal (the iPad still clocks in at around 30mbps and the iMac used too, now it's at 5.0 mbps). How do I fix the iMac? We have determined that it is not the internet provider and I have exahusted my ideas on how to get the speed back.
Info: iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.6), 4 GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have an iMac 21.5" Late 2009 3.06 GHz Intel Core Duo 2. OS X 10.9.4. All of a sudden my iSight is no longer recognized. There is no open application using it. It does not show up in the System Profilier.Â
Some people suggest to zap the PRAM but I can't even get my computer to do that. It only chimes once and then stars up normally even though I am holding down the option/command/P/R keys.
My iMac has just gotten all grumpy and weird with me, when attempting to browse anything on the internet (or even trying to access the router via 192.168.1.1) everything is ridiculously slow or just doesn't load. At first the speed went down dramatically - i went on speedtest.net and did a test, the page took a good 5 mins to load and after the test it turned out that i had a speed of 0.2 Mbps (my average speed on a good day is about 2.5 Mbps, shocking i know!) Ive tried turning the computer off and restarting it to no avail. Im doing this on my Macbook Pro which is sat next to the iMac and with a speed test is coming up with speed of about 2.2 Mbps, so its clearly the machine and not the internet/router. Ive tried using Safari, Chrome and Firefox they all provide the same, unusably slow responces.
recently my Mac is really slow, slow on startup(took around 1-2hours), and slow on task(more than 5 minutes delayed time on every single task), I don't know what happened to it,
My Mac specs: Â
1.Mid-2010 27 inch iMac,
2.Original 4g Ram upgraded to 12g
3.1TB HD has got more than 400gb free space.
4.i3 processor
5.Using latest Lion(I think it's 10.7.3)Â
Problems: Â
1.Startup tooooooooo slow, take more than 1 hour
2.Extreamly slow on tasks. Without any apps opened, every single click, it turned into the 'colorful fan', for instance, open finder, it took more than five mins, and it's not only the finder, it's EVERYTHING!!!!Â
What I have done so far:Â
1.I have reduced the login items
2.I have changed the password login to the automatic login
3.I have tried verify disk permission, verify disk, repair disk permission and repair disk
4.Unplug all unnecessary items(monitor, external drive etc.)
5.Run couple of time of 'clean my Mac', get rid of all the trash.
6.Cleaned the cacheÂ
Due to the ridiculous, frustrating startup, that's all I could do, however, none of them worked.
Now I am using recovery HD to reinstall Lion from a disc, but I don't know if it'll work or not.Â
I don't have another Mac, I don't have backups(don't want to lose my data),that's my situation.
Info: iMac 27'', Mac OS X (10.7), iPhone 3GS,iPad 3G/Wifi 64G, Sony vaio CR
We recently switched from a a PC to a Mac due to a crash. when we were trying to sync old info from our iPods and iphones onto the iTunes it does not allow us to do so. It restricts us from transferring info. How are we supposed to do so?
Some music CDs will not mount on my Early 2008 iMac, with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-875 drive. This started under 10.6, and continues with 10.7. The percentage of disks is increasing, including disks that had mounted before. Data CDs and DVDs mount without incident. CDs that don't mount on the iMac mount without incident on my MacBook Pro, and play without a problem on my BluRay/DVD/CD player.
Recently I decided to teach myself 3D modeling and I installed the free version of Sketchup * on my new iMac (last summer) running )SX Lion and with 8GB RAM. But I get so annoyed when I try to do something as simple as intersecting faces and then WHAM it's like I hit a wall and the spinning beachball of death appears. Sometimes it only lasts for a few minutes, but other times it can run for half an hour with no progress and I force quit out of frustration and try again.Â
It did this when I had the original 4GB RAM and upgrading to 8GB hasn't made any noticeable difference. And so I doubt upgrading yet again to 16GB would accomplish anything since it doesn't seem to be a RAM issue.Â
I understand Windows users don't have this issue or Apple users running Leopard or Snow Leopard. I also understand this is being worked on and not everyone experiences this, but in the interim it's really frustrating. I've made certain I don't have any other programs running or Sketchup panes open and I try to keep things simple by selecting only the caes I'm trying to intersect together, but it's still to no avail.Â
i have a 2010 imac and it is very slow on wifi,i have done a side by side test with my macbook pro in the same room, the mbp gives me 45mb download speed while the imac gives 16mb . the only way i can get it faster is to unplug it from the mains,it will then be similar to the mbp,but will slowly get worse again over a few hours. i have tried all the solutions on the forums, the os is up to date.
I have noticed that my MAC is really taking a long time to load programs & on-line content. Is there a way to clean up whats on here? I remember with the old PC you could defrag and do a disk clean up? Is there such a thing with my IMAC? It is 4 years old & I am running the latest software versions.
I have recently done an update and had to re boot my iMac only to find its slower than windows at re booting. I have tried resetting the PRAM and tried cmd-r then going through disk utilities to repair disk, once this was finished it said the disk appears to be ok. It's still just sat there at the grey screen with the apple logo and the loading symbol.Â
My iMac sometimes will just randomly start playing music. This just recently started and I haven't made any hardware/software changes at all, last thing I did was update it for printer drivers and that was it. It usually plays at night when I'm sleeping and it starts with the song that's on the top of the list. I've restarted it and everything and can't figure it out. I always leave iTunes running because I have my iPad and iPhones set up for wireless syncing. So I usually just keep the sound off to prevent any random music playing. Oh and there is no remotes connected to it either....
Application software: Intuem 4.0.7ur1 I'm unable to play a standard mp3 file using Intuem through the speakers/headphones. Other applications work fine.I've messed around with settings in audio/MIDI setup for weeks now, and still no audio output. The embedded metronome will play when enabled in the control bar during the track play. SO this part of the app produces sound. MIDI files play through the speakers perfectly fine, as well as MIDI output to an external device. It is only audio files that will not play through the speakers or headphones. Built in Output is the only item in the output selector for this app. Master volume in Audio Devices is at zero, and the slider cannot be moved. Configure speakers works, and hiss is played from the speakers. I also tried cycling the headphone port a few dozen times to try switching between speaker and headphones. That didn't help. I don't know if this is a problem with the OS or the application. The software vendor (Intuem) does not answer my emails even though this is a paid license program.Â
