MacBook Pro :: It Doesn't Reconnect To Hidden SSID Wifi Network
Apr 14, 2012
I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. I just added a wifi network with a hidden SSID to my saved, preferred networks list. Unlike networks with visible SSIDs, my Mac won't automatically reconnect to it. I hate having to re-enter the password each time.Â

I worked out this bugger mostly by chance, some people online are offering some out date info on this topic. Which involves pressing a pencil icon in the advanced area of network to pull up the hidden password, but that is not available. I found it in KeyChain that is easy to find in the Utilities. Its pretty easy to work it out from there.

The menu that lists the choices for my wifi internet connection includes the internet connection I set up with the SSID that I recognize (call it A) - but it also contains another SSID that I may have set up a long time ago and forgot about (call it B). B's SSID is the same name as the brand of my router; it has no protection listed. It also gets better connectivity than SSID A. How can I find out if B is actually my own connection? How can I add a security password?Â

I've been experiencing a problem lately with my Wifi, this started around last January where my Macbook Pro Wifi will be disconnected and reconnect within a few seconds, the period between the connection cut off varies sometimes short(3-5 minutes) sometimes long(1 hour?).
The weird thing is, this happens only when I use my house Wifi(NTL Ireland) and when I use my neighbor's Wifi which happens to be the same company(NTL) I do no experience this problem. And another weird thing is 2 of my housemates who are using PC do not have this problem and 1 of my housemate who is using mac also experiencing this problem, but the disconnection of the wifi of mine and her doesnt happen at the same time. I am so fed up with this, can anybody tell me what's the problem ? my macbook ? router ? broadband company ? weather ?

We often have guests or baby sitters who want to use our Mac to browse the web,so I'd like to enable the Guest Account. The problem is that I have FileVault2 enabled on the family iMac. The combination (FileVault2+Guest) means that every time someone logs in to the guest account, they need to select the Wifi SSID and enter the Wifi password. Not all of our guests are confident with that, and if I'm not there it often can't be done. Is there a way I can configure the SSID and Password for wifi for the Guest Account so that the guest does not need to do it?Â

I have an older imac running Lion 10.7.4.My router is a Time Capsule running 7.6.1. Yesterday my imac randomly disconnected from wifi and hasn't been able to reconnect since. When I click the wifi icon no networks show up in the list; it simply shows a greyed out "No Network My iphone and laptop each show 5 networks in the area including my own, the imac shows none.I even set my iphone up as a pesonal hotspot to see if the SSID would show up - it I tried putting my network name in manually through "join other network"- nothing. I have reset the computer and router several times each As far as my imac is concerned there are no wireless signals available.
So here's the odd part, I assume the wifi card has just died and haul my imac into the nearby apple authorized repair center. The guy plugs it in and it works no problem - shows the store's network and another one nearby and connects right away. The guy ran one or two quick tests but everything's working fine. I bring it home, the problem comes right back - can't see any of the wireless networks.Works fine through ethernet.

I was on my Mac and this happens somewhat often. I loose wifi connection and I have to go to the little wifi tab and select my network again. It doesn't ask for my password but it connects again. I am quite irritated with this, and it is embarrassing when my friends who have pcs come over "you have got a stupid Mac!" I love my Mac I don't want to ruin its great reputation.

I have used my Imac for about six months without any problems.  All in a sudden it does not always reconect to my router after getting into sleeping mode (not always, but around 8 of 10 times it does not reconect). I have to click on my router that are listed among other routers that it picks up in the neighbours. Â
Imac is of course setup to automatically reconnect to my router in the settings. Â
I have restarted my router as well, and also renamed the router as well to be be sure there are no conflicts. My Router is a Thomson TG789vnÂ

I've had my macbook pro for 4 years now with out any problems. However, a few weeks ago my airport stopped connecting for no reason. I have tried to reconnect through the network settings but it still won't work. However, if I am in the same room as my router then the airport will connect wirelessly to the internet. But as soon as I leave the room my internet signal will go out. I know its not a problem with my router because all the other computers in my house can recieve signal anywhere in the house.

MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.
Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect
I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox.
Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would.
At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.
So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.
Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

I have a high speed wi-fi connection in my home. My MacBookAir looks like its always looking to connect to Network vs. just staying logged into the preferred Network. I see this is a slow process that affects the speed of my surfing the web. Â
What I'm I doing wrong in my settings? is it something to do with Configuration of IPv4 in TCP/IP; my is at "using DHCP". Should I have something in 802.1X Profile Information? Proxies; I have my set to "Auto Proxy Discovery" Â
Why cant I surf seamlessly? Why dos it look like my Wi-Fi is always trying to connect to my home Network?Â

I am trying to connect my apple macbook air and devices to my new camera wirelessly, and I am asked... "After the network name (SSID) that an be used for the smart device is displayed, select the SSID displayed on the camera" I don'e seem to be able to find this, or I am just not getting it. The camera is a Nikon P600, my macbook air is OS X 10.9.3. I think it is snow leopard, but I don't know where to find this information.

Are there any PC Cards (I think that's what they were called) that allow you to get online when out of wifi range, when traveling etc.? Or I think I'd heard about a way you can connect your macbook to your iphone, and piggyback the connection that way, I think called a Leash perhaps? I'm travelling to my in-laws, who don't have wifi and we're trying to figure out how to get online there with our macbooks.

A friend of mine is having an issue with the wifi. When they use a MacBook on a wifi network, it tends to keep the family's IBM laptop off the network. This happens on all networks the two computers try to join, and in some cases other PCs on the network.

Since about 2 days ago, my wifi on my Macbook air running 10.7.3 Lion does not connect to any wireless network, whether it's naked, WEP encrypted, or WP2 encrypted. It fails on 'Network Settings' Network Status step (Wi-fi and Wi-fi settings are 'green'). In fact, I can use my other Macbook running 10.7.2 Lion as well as my Android phone to connect to the wireless networks my Macbook air cannot connect to. Â
What I find really weird is I tried re-installing Lion on my Macbook air using the 'command-R' key on bootup. I was able to successfully connect to my WEP encrypted router during the re-install. But once it was done and re-booted I once again cannot connect to any wifi.Â
So something really funny is going on while OS-X is fully booted on my Macbook air.Â
This is pretty crummy situation to be in because the Macbook airs don't have a default ethernet jack built into it, so the computer is somewhat useless.

I'm on mid 2010 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 and I can't figure out a way to prevent a certain wifi network from becoming known. My college's network requires an in browser sign up every time and once the network becomes known it gives me an SSL error until I remove it from the list of known networks and refresh.

My MacBook, circa 2007, refuses to connect to my home WiFi network, despite having added my MAC address, being WPA encrypted, updated firmware and the like. I haven't had a problem in the last year, until I started taking my laptop to work. It connects to my work wifi network, WPA encryption, and every other network. I have no idea why it wont connect at home. I'm running snow leopard, other macs and PCs at home can connect... It seems I'm missing some odd quirk, I've seen a few threads of similar complaints, but no working resolution. Any ideas? I've wiped out Safari, cleaned all network settings, and it all started once my use shifted predominantly from home to work. Hmpf.

I have a NetGear Router, locked to a Cable Modem from my ISP, I use a WPA setup with Tkip. I have had this enabled since last November. Now for some reason today, the MacBook will NOT CONNECT, it asks for a WPA code, even when I enter the code it comes up "connection timeout"
I have rebooted the entire network, and while everything else connects the MacBook refuses point blank to even attempt, with the connection timeout message showing within seconds of an attempt.
I cannot restore due to GB's of Data being on the HD and no Mac compatible external available.
