I recently bought an iMac and I was wondering why installation disks are not supplied. If a re-install is necessary, how can it be achieved without the original installation disks? or is there a new way of achieving this.

I have a Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo (first generation of MacBook Pro released). I run OSX 10.6.5. My disk utility has detected a problem and says I need the install disks that came with the computer. Called apple and they said I could reboot from snow leopard or the upgrade.** Problem is that I don't have any disks with me except those that came with my brand new iMac. Can I use those to reinstall the system? Is there any other way?
**They also said that after 2007, the install disks that come with computers are keyed to that specific computer so I "might" not be able to use the disk to repair.
Additionally, and I don't know if this makes a difference but I have the airport/time capsule which backs up my computer for easy restore.
Just want to find out has anyone experimented installing 2 hard disks in your macpro and the 2nd hard disk is installed with xp pro via bootcamp?
Have you experienced any problems?
Would this be a better solution as compare to installing xp pro in virtual software?
I recently acquired a G4 cube with no os. It came with the original disks, but the only problem is instead of booting from them a flashing question mark on a floppy drive is shown. I have tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM which hasn't worked.

Finally repaired it at the apple store, took it home, ran the updates, but disk utility is saying my drive is corrupted and to repair it with the installation disk. I have been looking everywhere and only found the TechTool deluxe CD but can't find my actual installation disks. how I would go about repairing my disk ?

I'm having issues with the computer, among which is that the superdrive will not accept any disks... it clicks a couple of times, then spits the disk out. This has been an intermittent problem for about 5 months, but now it seems to be constant. Disk Utility and Disk Warrior (hard drive based) say that I have problems that can only be fixed by restarting with a system disk or DW disk inserted.
I did do the System Management Controller reset but it didn't work. I'll take the computer to an apple store if need be, but is there any way to force a disk to be accepted and read? Also, since I bought Lion via the app store, and have no system disk. Is there a way to fix my hard drive without a physical system or repair disk? I do have the physical disk for Leopard if that would work on Lion. I can't get a CD or DVD to stay in the drive and be read.

I have tried it with all the installers. Somehow the screen gets stuck at authenticating. After authenticating, it does nothing. I am not able to add new user accounts as well. I bought a second hand iMac, formatted the HD and installed Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Fixed disk permission, did all the software upgrades, fixed once more permission and verified startup disk... and everything seemed to work fine.
After using it for an hour I've started noticing strange crashes:Â
