Jun 27, 2014I have a new IMac 10.9.2 and purchased an Apple Superdrive. The IMac rejects all disks inserted in the superdrive.

View 3 RepliesI have an iMac now powered by OS X Lion. But the problem is that when I try to insert a disk the superdrive accepts it but it doesn't show in the desktop. And after 30 seconds the disk is automatically ejected. I have tried restarting the PC a lot of time. The problem persists with all cds and dvds.

I'm having issues with the computer, among which is that the superdrive will not accept any disks... it clicks a couple of times, then spits the disk out. This has been an intermittent problem for about 5 months, but now it seems to be constant. Disk Utility and Disk Warrior (hard drive based) say that I have problems that can only be fixed by restarting with a system disk or DW disk inserted.
I did do the System Management Controller reset but it didn't work. I'll take the computer to an apple store if need be, but is there any way to force a disk to be accepted and read? Also, since I bought Lion via the app store, and have no system disk. Is there a way to fix my hard drive without a physical system or repair disk? I do have the physical disk for Leopard if that would work on Lion. I can't get a CD or DVD to stay in the drive and be read.

My IMac won't grab disks in the superdrive, spits them straight out, is there anything I can try before taking it for repairs. It is two years old so is out of warranty.

I just got my shiny new mac today. I'm ecstatic, as you can imagine. Except the optical drive is being weird. When I insert some types of burned media (Sony, TDK) it makes horrible scraping noises (I think I even smelled something bad too) and doesn't read the disc. TDK and Sony are good brands. They work on everything else I've ever tried. So, I'm guessing this isn't normal?
I tried calling AppleCare but what do you know, they're 6am to 6pm, which is great. So while I wait I wanted to ask - is this going to be an easy "they give me a new drive and I put it in" type of deal, or am I going to have to be cutting some red tape? And can I do this at the apple store?
I have a mid-2010 iMac. Recently, it has failed to mount DVDs, either video or data, on a reliable basis. I have been able to work around it by restarting my iMac, but that doesn't always work.

the external SuperDrive on my iMAC does not read some of my music CDs. While the majority runs without any problems, quite a few cannot be read, although they work without any problems on my HiFi and on other CD Drives. All Software is up to date and the Drive is just a few months old.

My iMac desktop will not read music CD's with its superdrive. It will burn CD's. Is this a software problem? It is an iMac 8,1 with original superdrive. I have tried working with permissions and hard drive repair.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a new imac (recently replaced my old one for iCloud readiness) with 4GB memory, OS 10.7.3, and Mail regularly rejects my icloud password. I have checked the account settings and they are as suggested. I have no problem with my iPad or my iPhone which are both running iOS 5+, and my password works fine everywhere else Apple,
It happens at least once per day, and when I cancel the request for password in a few minutes, without further action on my part, Mail decides it does know my password after all! Not debilitating, but mildly annoying. Could this be an icloud issue? Maybe they need to work on this? Or (gasp) is it just me!

Upgraded to Lion fairly smoothly. All seems to be OK (hate the monochrome finder icons..another stupid change like removing the blue progress bar with SL) Main problem is mail rejects my password on my imac but it works fine on iphone and ipad.

I have an Intel iMac and loving it, I bought it last December and Apple mail was just perfect. But recently every day I get an error message saying Yahoo has rejected my password and to re-enter, with an option to save in keychain. The password keeps being rejected but if I go into Yahoo mail on Safari then all seems fine and Apple mail works. I also have an iphone and ipad and these are fine, no password issues at all.
I know there has been a Yahoo update recently and I thought it could be that but then surely the iphone/ipad would also be affected. Equally there has been Lion updates and it all started around that time.
I have tried deleting the password in keychain and starting again, no help. I have deleted the email account and stated again
After moving from MobilMe to Icloud and nothing works, new password I am able to send emails but not receive any?

I was in the middle of installing OS X onto my external HD so I could boot from that and try to retrieve some of my files off my internal hard drive. I don't know if it was my girlfriend, my cat, or time but when I woke up, the screen has prompted to insert "Mac OS X Install Disc 2" disc to continue installation but I believe install disc 1 was pressed back into the cd slot. I can't figure out how to get it to eject so I can insert cd 2. Eject key isn't working, f12 isn't working

I use that disk for my "Backup" files. Since I have switched it to the new computer, the backups continue to fail. An error message comes up saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." I tried to repair the disk, but I get an error message that states that the drive cannot be unmounted.

The CD slot is so close to the memory card slot, and I usually find them by feel as they are on the far side of the computer. I have to actualy stand up to peer around the side of my screen. While trrying to retrieve the card, I heard something drop, presumably it has droped inside somewhere.

it kind of just happened suddenly but my new aluminum iMac can not read CD/DVDs nor show them as an icon on the desktop. I don't know if this matters but it stopped reading them shortly after I preformed a mount with toast titanium on a mac universal binary image. Also, if I put a disk in, it thinks for a bit, then spits it out. I think I may have shut down the computer without dismounting the image and I don't know if that may contribute to the problem.

I have bought a new copy of snow leopard but I am wondering if theres a way of installing just the iLife apps from the MBP disks onto my IMac?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 450 MHz, 20 GB, 256 Mb ram, OS X 10.2 iMac that I am trying to get connected to a cable modem. The problem stems from the fact that I cannot change the settings in internet connect because the person who originally set it up locked it and I do not have the password. If I can solve this problem without reformatting that would be great. However, I do not know how to pull this off.
I thought it might be easiest to reformat the hard drive and reinstall OS X, however there is a catch here too. I do not have the boot disks that came with the iMac, I have the boot disks for an older version OS X 10.03 (for an ibook). If I was to try and reformat the iMac with these disks so that I can change the internet connection info am I going to kill this computer?
My iMac has become a little unstable and I want to wipe everything and start again - a factory reset.Â
Seeing as it didn't come with any start up discs, is there a way to do with without disks?Â
I recently bought an iMac and I was wondering why installation disks are not supplied. If a re-install is necessary, how can it be achieved without the original installation disks? or is there a new way of achieving this.

I have an old iMac g3 w/ a 266 MHz PowerPC processor, 160MB of RAM, and a 6GB Harddrive. It is running OS X 10.2.8. I need to get rid of it, but I want to make sure it is cleared of all my data first. Maintaining functionality would be nice so that I can try to sell it. My problem is that I don't have the original install disks. How can I can wipe the memory from my iMac and restore it to a usable condition w/o the install disks.
