I have Snow leopard on a flash drive and have tried booting directly from the computer and also from the start up menu holding down the "alt" button. I chose startup from mac os x drive and it just kept loading with a "block" symbol. I also tried loading lion the same way on a external hard drive directly and from startup and I can't pick the MAC HD as the install location?Â
I just tried them before I wiped my hard drive completely and set it to factory settings with the original disk, and they gave me no problems. Now that everything is on factory setting I can't seem to do any of the two. Â When I tried installing Snow directly from the computer I get this, "The application "Install Mac OS X" cannot be used from this volume.and when trying to install from a DMG file i get, "You cannot use this version of the application Install Mac OS X Lion with this version of Mac OS X"Â

I just upgraded (finally) to Snow Leopard on my 24" iMac. After a couple days the sound just disappeared. Everything seems to function correctly - preferences are correct, volume control works, etc - but nothing comes out of the speakers. Sound restores on reboot, but disappears within an hour or so.

I have an i-Mac 24, possibly pre dating 2007, I've had it four years and bought it from a re-furber.
But I want to be able to upgrade from snow leopard 10.6.8 ... every time I try I get the response that it is not possible with my device.
So i have an Imac from around 2006, id IMac 7,1 with no upgrades, just the basic. Its currently on 10.5.8 software (Leopard), but i do have the dvd disc for snow leopard (10.6). Is it possible to upgrade the software on the mac, as i heard it wasnt from a friend. Also if i can use the disc to upgrade, what would happen to all the programmes (e.g word, photoshop) and pictures, videos etc. or would it be totally fine?

I upgraded from OSX 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard (single license) on one of my two iMacs, and then installed Lion. Is my Snow Leopard disk now liberated to make the pre-Lion upgrade on the second computer, since it is no longer operating on the first one? All of the hardware meets the upgrade requirements.
