Jan 11, 2011Since Saturday I've been having trouble connecting to the internet. For the last 18 months we've been connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station (2003) which in turn is wired to a Motorola SB5101 cable modem. Every time I had called the ISP (Comcast), they've been able to get it going while I was on the line by restarting the modem (which I tried before calling). Last night nothing would work no matter how many times I rebooted the modem and after many trial and errors, we were able to get connected to the internet by hooking my MBP directly to the ethernet cable from the modem and taking the Airport out of the equation. The service rep decided my router was likely at fault and I wasn't inclined to argue as it is an old router and things do break over time.
However, I ran out and bought a brand new Belkin Share wireless router and now neither that nor the Airport can connect to the internet even when the lights on the modem say all is well. Unfortunately, the Belkin came with it's own software package for router management and setup, which I'm not too keen on. It kept saying it couldn't connect to the modem or that the internet connection to the modem was lost. In tonight's efforts, I'm always able to plug my MBP right into the modem and get a connection, but as soon as I move that cable to the Airport or the new Belkin, my internet is gone. The Airport connection in the Network section of System Preferences always comes up as connected, but the Belkin glows dark red instead of green and the accompanying software says no connection to the internet can be found.
Does this sound more like the fault of the modem, the ISP, or me, the user? Any help would be much appreciated. Although I am able to connect now, my roommate's computer doesn't even have an ethernet port.

I have no documentation or anything for it. It only has Charter on it (and made in China ) but no manufacturer.

May 19, 2009forwarding ports to my semi-new iMac. I got my iMac back in September and I've been trying to forward my ports since then but have unsuccessfully done so. I've followed every guide i can find but still i dont know what i've done wrong. I have a Belkin N+ router. I think that I managed to give myself a static IP but from there i can't get anything to forward.

Aug 8, 2009I just bought a Belkin N router (a F5D8236), and I've finally been able to get it to work, but every time I try and set a password on the router itself, it seems to save the wrong one! I've tried several times now (v-e-r-y carefully, checking the capslock key), and the same thing happens. Once I've entered the password and the router resets, I can't login again without reverting to factory settings.

May 11, 2010So I'm trying to connect my MBP to my new Belkin Double N+ (F6D6230uk4) router. I have 2.4 ghz set to b/g and 5 ghz set to n and 20/40hz bandwidth. Last night, when I connected to the router for the first time, I was showing 300mbps, when you Options+click the Airport icon. However, now I'm only showing 145mbps. To be fair, I may have changed a few settings between now and then, but I have no idea how I was able to get 300mbps before. It's as though it's only connecting to one channel, instead of two, which is required for 300mpbs I think?

Jan 5, 2011I have just got my 1Tb time capsule and there are a lot of confusing descriptions of how to connect it.
At the moment I have just selected "join existing wireless network" which is a ADSL 2.4ghz G Router that came with my internet package (Thompson TG585 v7).
Does this mean that all traffic goes via the ADSL Router and that I will not be using the 5ghz band when I back up so that all the data will follow a path like this and have slow data rates? :
MAC --2.4ghz--> ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> TC
or will I be communicating directly with the TC at 5ghz for backups and data transfer and 2.4ghz with the ADSL router for internet like this? :
MAC --5ghz--> TC
ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> MAC
If this is not a good setup, what setup would allow me to get the full speed to the time capsule and be connected to the internet.

Aug 23, 2009I have a G5 Duel 2GHz Power PC, Recently I was losing the time, date and wireless settings so I assumed as my machine is now 4 years old the PRAM battery was up for renewal.This has now been replaced but I'm still losing my settings, not all the time but randomly, sometimes I lose my wireless key sometimes I lose time and date sometimes both, this can happen daily.
I have removed the (New) Battery and checked the voltage and it reads 3.6 Volts, I haven't checked this under load though, so presuming that the battery is OK, what else could cause this.. a failing System Board?

My problem is the wireless network is password protected and the settings panel is password protected as well and my roommate does not know either password. Aug 8, 2009I have an imac with netgear router, i want to turn off the security wep i setup, because with it my other computer PC in the other room will only connect at the 2.4G speed of 54 while my mac on the Dual N will connect over 100. Before I put the security setting on the PC would connect on N also. I am not really worried about security, live in rural setting and do not do online banking or buying. I can't seem to find where Mac stores the info to go back to NO security. Have spent all day trying to do this. By the way my macbook connects on the N and my toshiba lapbook connects on the 2.4. Can two be connected via the router to N at the same time? i thought they did before but now i am not sure.

Jan 9, 2010Upgraded a friend to Snow Leopard the other day. All was fine except that mail was taking 20-30 seconds to send mail. Finally isolated it to a router setting of some kind, as plugging directly to the modem resolved the issue. (The computer having trouble sending mail is actually a hard-wired desktop) However, when I plugged the router back in to set it up again and start troubleshooting, it would not save any changes. So logging into the router at 192.168.1.1 from the wired desktop, changing any settings, and pressing 'save' just brings up an 'unable to load page' Safari prompt.
Has anybody run into this issue after ugrading to SL? (or to Leopard, for that matter?)
I believe it's a Linksys WRT54g wireless router.

Feb 15, 2012Just downloaded Lion, now the Airport wireless router keeps dropping the cable modem settings so I can't access the network, internet or WiFi. I have to repeatedly go back into System Preferences, Network, Assist Me, Network Diagnostics, choose the network port config, select WiFi, select my network and it restores all network settings and says "Internet connection appears to working correctly." This problem apparently happens whenever the computer goes to standby/sleep.

Feb 18, 2010I live in a two story home, with the only ethernet port located on the ground floor. I like to play PS3 online, so I connect it directly to my router on the bottom floor. I would like to be able to move the playstation upstairs, as the tv is much better, but theres no ethernet port. Is there a way to use my MacBook Pro as a wireless access point for a PS3 without having to connect anything directly into a port?

Sep 1, 2008i recently bought an Airport Express, and i finally took it out of its box after i purchased my new stereo. I connected the audio cable to the stereo and the airport unit and plugged it into an outlet. I opened up airport utility on my mac, AX appeared and i configured it to "join a wireless network". After completing the remaining steps, i updated it.. and waited for it to restart. Now here's my problem. It comes up with an error telling me it couldn't find the device after restarting. I have Verizon FiOS as my provider.. and I know that airport express has a history of trouble with the Actiontec router. Is there anything i can do with my current equipment to get this thing to work? I do not need to extend the network.. only join to use airtunes and print wirelessly... Also, my Actiontec router and FiOS connection are through my crappy dell pc downstairs, while i am using my 24" iMac upstairs in my bedroom trying to connect this. Should i change my router's settings?
