Jun 25, 2009I have a Linksys Wireless Router and a Linksys Modem, the router is 6 years old or so 802.11b, how much faster would the Internet be if I had a combined Linksys wireless router/modem versus the 802.11b that I have now?
Would I see a huge difference? I am running my Macbook off it and an olde Toshiba laptop.

Jan 5, 2011I have just got my 1Tb time capsule and there are a lot of confusing descriptions of how to connect it.
At the moment I have just selected "join existing wireless network" which is a ADSL 2.4ghz G Router that came with my internet package (Thompson TG585 v7).
Does this mean that all traffic goes via the ADSL Router and that I will not be using the 5ghz band when I back up so that all the data will follow a path like this and have slow data rates? :
MAC --2.4ghz--> ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> TC
or will I be communicating directly with the TC at 5ghz for backups and data transfer and 2.4ghz with the ADSL router for internet like this? :
MAC --5ghz--> TC
ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> MAC
If this is not a good setup, what setup would allow me to get the full speed to the time capsule and be connected to the internet.

Can i just buy another standard $40 wireless G router and "extend" my wireless network? if so, how easy would this be to accomplish? would it be as simple as hooking up the $40 router with my airport extreme using via ethernet cable so that it extends it? update: I am looking at this router...would this accomplish my purpose? Apr 1, 2009I would like to get a USB wireless N dongle for my old PC, easy enough to do I was going to go with a Linksys WUSB600N but then realized I might as well get something that is Mac compatible so I can sometimes use it on my old PowerBook. After doing some research I found out that newer TrendNet dongles and some D-Link dongles are Mac compatible. I don't know about TrendNet because they always seemed a little cheap, I've used D-Link routers before and they're ok but the dongles compatibility with Macs seems to depend on the hardware revision. Are there any other brands who make Mac compatible wireless N USB dongles?

This is because my ps3 is in one room and my Imac is in another. my router is more or less in the middle of my ps3 and imac both of which i connect wirelessly to the internet. Since ive done this my signal upstairs is poor. So, can I use my Imac to boost the signal upstairs. My wireless router was plugged into my Imac beforehand and the signal upstairs was fine. but since ive had to move the router for my ps3 its further away from upstairs and the signal has dropped. short of moving the router back.

Sep 16, 2007My wife has an iBook G3 500mhz with 320mb of ram. She is having trouble with the airport card that is installed in it. I have a 2.4ghz wireless access point in the upstairs of my house (next to my main machine) which is sending the signal to a 2.4ghz bridge in the downstairs. House is wood frame. She is having problems connecting to the wireless network. When she can actually connect, she has to be right next to a wireless router and even then it doesn't work sometimes to connect. Is the airport card going bad in this? Is it possible that the antenna has gone bad or has a kink in it or something?

I got my parents' place setup with an AEBS, and I was wondering if there's some major reason I shouldn't go with one. The plan is to make the mini a media center and home network server.With that in mind, is it best to link the mini wirelessly onto my existing wireless network (802.11g)? Or should I get an airport extreme (802.11n) and link that wirelessly to the mini? Or can I run the cable modem directly into the mini and have it function as the wireless router (saving me the expense of buying the airport extreme)?

The drive sharing part is the most important and probably hardest to get right.. I know that it'll "just work" with an AirPort Extreme, but $180 is just way too much for what it is. MacBook Air :: Rev.C 1.86 Won't Connect To Wireless Router
Mar 11, 2010I have a Macbook Air Rev.C 1.86GHz and just yesterday, it stopped connecting to my D-Link wireless router. There have not been any updates applied to the router or the Mac recently, nor have I installed any apps to the Mac either. My iPhone sees and connects to the router fine, as does my MSI netbook, and my TabletPC too. I have turned the router off numerous times in trying to troubleshoot this, and only for a minute or two, does the Mac see the router and connect getting an IP. It then loses the connection shortly after. I have turned off the Mac's Airport a number of times, I have reset the SMB (I think, using the ctrl/shift/option/Power button while off, letting go, then pressing the Power Button only).
