My 17inch iMac G5 has a vertical shaded band in the display that I cannot remove. Does anyone know how to fix this or it this now a permanent problem? The picture underneath is not corrupted, however it is a lighter shade. The vertical band is about 2 inches wide.
View 1 RepliesI have a 3 inch vertical band in the middle of my 26" thunderbolt display which is connected to a 6 month old 15" Macbook pro running OS 10.9.3. This band randomly flickers on and off and shows a burned-in image of the previous window. It may disappear for as much as a few weeks but then return for minutes or hours. I tried restarting with all peripherals disconnected (hard discs, Bamboo graphics pad etc) with no effect.

It's like a 1 pixel column of dead pixels right in the middle of the screen. I think it's still under warranty. Is this something that can be fixed under the warranty?

I've got an imac with a dead monitor and when i plug in an external monitor to get a display it only shows me the far corner of the desktop and I cannot access the dock or anything else to change settings. I need to change the monitor setting to MIRROR MODE which I believe is located in System Preferences but I cannot see anything with the current limited display.

My workplace has me use a Lenovo 410 Thinkpad which has Displayport slot (Lenovo - Laptop computers - ThinkPad T Series - Technical Specifications). I am looking to use my iMac as a second display for the Leonovo 410 Thinkpad so when I work from home I can have an extended PC desktop etc. I am under the impression that the 27" iMac supports Displayport input from external Displayport devices so what cable or adapters do I need to pull this off?

Recently my job gave me this laptop that I think from what teh net says is a Titanium model. They told me it was dropped and the screen never worked. The thing is the screen kinda works, well the top 1/3 Horizontally of the screen shows the desktop and what not. The 2/3 of the monitor shoes a vertical pinstripe randome colors. The thing is I dont have the charger and I cant take a photo of it. I am wondering if its worth putting money in this laptop. I did while it worked hooked it up on external monitor, overall it works fine. My brother told me to ebay it and use the money for a Mac book. I just want opinions to what to do. I feel since theres still image showing on the screen may be just a broken cable or loose.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the standard 13" aluminum macbook, and I was looking into getting the 'Mini DisplayPort to VGA' adapter to connect my 22" Samsung monitor. On the Apple website, I have seen nothing but horrible reviews about the connection cable, saying that it exclusively does not work with Samsung brand monitors and TV's. On the other hand I only see good things about it connecting to other devices and monitors.
Can anyone shed any light on this? It's already ridiculous that i have to pay the 30$ price for this cable just to use an external monitor, the least I can do is know that it will for sure work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

So, my late 2008 aluminum Macbook has been giving me some issues. At first, the display basically conked out on me so I had to get that replaced. Then about a week after it got replaced, it looked like some sort of liquid had oozed out of the display. It was basically between the LCD screen and the glass display. I pressed on it a couple times with my thumb and it went away. Then yesterday, the liquid came back. Then late last night, this vertical line of static came up and it wont go away.
Here is a picture of the liquid stuff. It's not great because I can only see it when the screen is off because the vertical stripe is on top of the liquid stuff. Its kinda hard to see, but it looks like oil on the inside of the screen.
I started noticing what I describe as ant-lines running vertically across my late 2009 27" iMac. I am fairly certain that they were not there before but I can't really remember. I did a search and found some discussions regrading video issues and vertical line anomalies but none like what I am seeing. url...It's noticable from a distance of about 2 feet and closer. It's not visible on white or black but midtones is where I see it. It gets really distracting at about 20" and closer, especially in iPhoto when scrolling through photos.Has anyone else seen anything like this and do you guys think I will have any luck getting something like this fixed with a Genius appointment? I do still have AppleCare.

After updating to Lion, I set my macbook up with a few different desktops so I could easily swipe between them instead of searching for the windows I needed.I just set up a second monitor to my mac and noticed that anytime I swipe to a different desktop, both monitors change. Is there a way to "freeze" one while the other moves? Or better yet, can I set up my second monitor to only have one desktop while my mac still has 2 or more?

I have recently noticed two vertical lines (seem to be a lighter shade of display screen color) running top to bottom on my desktop. They stay on my display screen all of the time. This lovely old guy was purchased May 2006 but has every upgrade (except Lion....running Snow Leopard) and full component of memory...serves me well but I need to know if this is a sign I am losing my hardware.

I have a 27" iMac. I would like to split the screen into two differently configured desktops or monitors. Apps like TwoUp or Divy don't exactly do this. I'll explain it with an example:Â
Suppose I'm working on a document and I need to open many folders to retrieve files. One common problem is that opened folders overlap each other and sometimes they overlap with the document I'm working on, or they go underneath the document. I would like to split the screen vertically in, say, two virtual, independent desktops/monitors, like this:
- one window/space on one side (say, on the left) of the screen would contain the document from top to bottom, with no dock bar on the bottom
- the other window/space (right) would behave as a regular, full desktop, with the entire dock on the bottomÂ
In this way, if I need to navigate to find a file to use in the document, I would move the cursor to the right. The Finder would work only in this window/space, thus windows or other applications would never overlap or clutter the left side of the screen. Drag-and-drop from right to left should be possible.Â
One way to imagine it is as if the 16x9 monitor were comprised by two vertical, 8x9 independent monitors side by side, each with its own configuration.Â
I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
My 2008 Penryn White Macbook siplays vertical lines and or vertical grey/black bars on 60% of the display. This happens from when it is powered on until and including when you arrive at desktop. The space the lines occupy does not increase or shrink, they have covered the area from the moment the problem arose.
it is not the common line issue that a Tiger update solved since this Macbook came with Leopard pre-installed. The lines are still there with the hard drive removed and they are still there when I booted a live Ubuntu CD, so I have ruled out software being the cause. Also I have ruled out inverter because I would not be getting any backlighting.
So....
To me that leaves:
-The LCD display panel itself (although there is no physical damage and it has never been dropped)
-The display data cable that connects LCD to the logic board
-GPU
Have white vertical line in center of screen display. Do I need a new system or can it be fixed?
