Intel Mac :: 2 Vertical Lines, Running From Top To Bottom, Have Appeared On My Screen?
Feb 9, 20122 vertical lines, running from top to bottom, have suddenly appeared on my screen. On a white back ground they appear blue and green. they have a wide space between them. I switched off and on but they are still there. Whats happening?

Dec 27, 2010My 2008 Penryn White Macbook siplays vertical lines and or vertical grey/black bars on 60% of the display. This happens from when it is powered on until and including when you arrive at desktop. The space the lines occupy does not increase or shrink, they have covered the area from the moment the problem arose.
it is not the common line issue that a Tiger update solved since this Macbook came with Leopard pre-installed. The lines are still there with the hard drive removed and they are still there when I booted a live Ubuntu CD, so I have ruled out software being the cause. Also I have ruled out inverter because I would not be getting any backlighting.
So....
To me that leaves:
-The LCD display panel itself (although there is no physical damage and it has never been dropped)
-The display data cable that connects LCD to the logic board
-GPU

Jun 30, 2014My display has colored vertical lines on it and I can't get the computer to do anything. Powering it off and then on again the lines just come up again. This computer is about 2 months old so this shouldn't be happening.

Nov 9, 2009 For the past few days, my screen has been going in and out of being entirely covered by 1px white lines that occasionally flicker blue or something. Like, when I'm typing (as I am now) if the window is positioned one pixel off, the blinking cursor won't appear (and on my black screensaver, it looks more like it's white/light grey because literally every other 1px line is white). Well, this morning it got weird again, but it hasn't gone back to normal!
I have a Mid-2007 Santa Rosa Macbook Pro, 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo- LED Screen, backlight works fine and if I turn it completely down ('off') the problem persists. I have Boot Camp installed, and the problem persists when booting into Windows as well.
I looked around and tried a few fixes to no avail (slept the screen, reset the PRAM, messed with the resolution a bit).
I took a screenshot and everything shows up normal. I had to finish a paper I was working on, and the screen was getting unbearable, so I tried plugging it into a mate's external lcd and the image came up completely fine, no vertical lines!
So, what could this be, and what could I do to fix it? Could this be the infamous problem with the Nvidia 8600GT M graphics card- so would I have to get the logic board repaired!? (UGH I hope not) Could it just be a connection issue? I did install a new hard drive, a new stick of memory, and Leopard, but that was months ago! Anything else I might be missing? and I hope this problem isn't too serious!
P.S.-on a side-note, has anybody done the upgrade to the latest firmware for the fans (SMC something)? Should I give that a try (or should I do it anyway, regardless of whether it could help)? When it was released, I heard of some bad experiences, so I stayed away.

Nov 30, 2014grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (I think it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.Â

Oct 6, 2010Hi I'm connecting an external monitor to my macbook pro and am experiencing regular vertical lines throughout the external screen. I've tried DVI-D and VGA. I've tried changing resolutions. I have taken a screen shot of the monitor but this screen shot shows a clear image. Attached is a picture of what it looks like. Hard to spot as taken with my isight. (Ignore the cable hanging down).

I've had it sent into Apple once for the horizontal flashing lines, but these are new... it's like a gray vertically striped film covers the whole screen, and unlike the horizontal lines, shaking/hitting the screen does not help.

Mar 13, 2010My MacBookPro 15" 5.3 worked fine until today, All the blacks (rgb 0,0,0) on the screen become red stripes.
When I boot into Linux or Windows the same problem appears, so it's probably a hardware problem.
I have no expensive adaptor to connect to an external lcd screen, so I don't know yet if the problem is in the mac screen or in the cabling or somewhere else...

Sep 11, 2010I replaced my cracked LCD screen on my 17" macbook pro, and upon firing up you hear the chime, and the apple logo comes up just fine. Then after that it goes to horizontal lines, and no image on it. If I plug in an external, it shows up just fine on it, and if I put in the original cracked screen, I can see my desktop and everything as well.

Nov 7, 2009I have a late 2007 2.2ghz MBP. It seems that the video cable is failing, as I often open it up from sleep and get only half an image on the screen. Image capture does not capture this, so I know that it is hardware related. It does not happen on my external monitor.
It is getting more frequent, and has been going on for about a month, The warranty expired in late September (lucky me!)

Dec 8, 2009This is my first time having some serious problems with my first MacBook, and I was hoping someone out there could help me out. This macbook was bought on June 2006 (a white MB) with I believe the 10.4.6 OSX on. I gave it to my dad which is across the world and he called desperate a few days ago saying that the system won't boot up. When the power button is pushed on and the system starts, rings the Apple bell and soon after colorful vertical lines show up across the screen and the system freezes. Here's what I found out from my research on the topic, for some macs of that generation, when the system updates from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 some video card issue causes this glitch to happen. The solution: zap the PRAM (by holding control + command + p + r when booting the computer.) My dad has tried this approach many times and it doesn't solve it. We also tried booting it with the installation disc and that didn't work. We also tried the safe mode boot and that also didnt work.

Jun 10, 2012I have a Macbook Pro 15" (mid 2010) 2.53GHz Interl Core i5 running OSX Lion 10.7.4. Generally the computer and screen are in good condition and have had no damage. The screen has Vertical blue lines and there is a tint of blue generally. The startup apple grey screen however is perfect, it is only when it enters the login screen that the lines appear. All the colours are off. Other than these lines the computer works perfectly Â
The computer was used yesterday (09 June 2012) without a problem for approx 1hour. It was then left for the day indoors on a desk out of direct sunlight. The computer was switched on later that evening and the problem started to appear I have already tried to reset the PRAM and SMC with no affect.Â
I also read that it may be a cable problem, however as the startup screen works perfectly i question this.

Jun 23, 2012I have recently noticed two vertical lines (seem to be a lighter shade of display screen color) running top to bottom on my desktop. They stay on my display screen all of the time. This lovely old guy was purchased May 2006 but has every upgrade (except Lion....running Snow Leopard) and full component of memory...serves me well but I need to know if this is a sign I am losing my hardware.

Apr 6, 2012I bought my first MacBook Pro in April 2008. In 2010 I had a problem with MBP/Display, the logicboard problem which occurs with many MBP. As this was resloved with test and replacement of logicboard, it was good until last night
But since yesterday I've had to experience the Vertical Stripping, shadows at bottom of screen. I restarted the machine, I shut it down and this problem hasn't disappeared.
I did research online, checking the System profiler--->Graphics Displays--->PCIe Lane Width:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â x16--->GeForce 8600M GT
Nothing appears to be out of sorts, also I did a hardware test from start up and no hardware problems were found.Â
So what now? I'm using the MBP now as I type, I still have use of the machine but the vertical striping is not going away.Â

MacBook Pro :: White Vertical Lines On 2010 13" Screen?
Jul 19, 2010I've had my MBP for about 2 weeks and yesterday a white vertical line about an inch long appeared on the right edge of the screen.
It went away after a restart, so I thought nothing of it, but now another one has appeared. Picture:
They mostly appear only on the desktop, but occasionally crop up when I'm running apps.
Is this something I can fix or is it a video adapter issue? I have searched and come up with some similar motherboard issues but they are mostly older macs.

Apr 25, 2012I am trying to get my MacBook LCD to work right. It happened because one time I was carefully wiping my MacBook screen with a little hand sanitizer and a paper towel. However, later my screen started to show a-lot of weird lines and eventually blue, pink and green tiny vertical lines but it is not completely renderd useless, it is just plain annoying and whenever I have an open window on the screen for a long time and I move it around eventually, it shows an imprint in the background into the screen and even when I restart, shutdown or use Windows in BootCamp it just shows up. Â

MacBook Pro :: Will Not Start After Shutdown - Purple Vertical Lines Flickering On Screen
Jun 3, 2012I was sitting with my MacBook Pro, when out of no where, purple vertical lines began flickering on the screen. I tried getting them to stop, then eventually just shut down my laptop. When I went to power it up again, it first popped up with the white apple screen and chime, then a gray screen dropped down with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.".
I tried the Power button option first, but the computer does not come back on. When I press the Power button again, it does the same thing all over again. I do not know where the "Restart button" is, so I haven tried that. I have also tried pulling the battery and restarting, restarting in safe mode by holding the shift key at start up, and trying control-r and control-s functions. None of which worked.

MacBook :: Bottom Half Of Screen Flicking/flashing Lines?
Feb 8, 2012my Mac started doing this a week ago. The bottom half of the screen flickers/flashes lines. If I leave it open on a flat surface and I touch the screen for a little bit, it'll go back to normal. When I close the laptop, put it in my case, and travel around with it, the next time I open it up it'll start flashing again. Â

PowerPC :: Display Has Bunch Of Parallel Vertical Lines Running Down / Wifi Card Pooped Out
Oct 8, 2008So tomorrow I'm going to be getting a Powerbook G4 from a friend. He says there are two problems with it.
1. The Graphics. I haven't seen it personally, but he says every time the laptop starts up, the display has a bunch of parallel vertical lines running down it. Is this a hardware issue, and is it easy to replace? Or can an update fix it? I wonder because isn't the integrated graphics mounted on the logic board?
2. The WiFi Card. I remember the day he got it, we both say the WiFi worked like a charm. One day, it pooped out on us. Now, the only way for internet is by ethernet. Did something possibly unhook from it, or is it a bad card? Once again, a possible update for it?
I won't know for certain until I get this laptop tomorrow. I will post updates when I can physically check it out.Also, this laptop is an older one, so no warranty or AppleCare on it. It is also running Leopard, but I doubt it is updated to the latest.
OS X :: Safari Blank Screen With Vertical Lines?
Sep 16, 2009After installing Snow Leopard, I noticed that when I select a web page from the Safari startup grid (medium 6 web pages), the screen turns white with many vertical lines. This lasts for approximately 4-5 seconds before the web page loads. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Dec 6, 2014I have a 2 month old rMBP Mid 2014 and i am experiencing horizontal lines in the middle and bottom of the screen. For example, If i was browsing a site and then close the window you can still see parts of the website in the middle of the screen. I took the laptop in for the technicians to have a look and they a blaming it on the software,claiming that Gfxcardstatus is causing the problem. The problem still persists even with gfxcardstatus turned off. Does Gfxcardstatus do this? Is it the Lcd or gpu failure? Take a look at the photos ....
