Just about to order a 3.06 with the 4850 and can anyone tell me if I can extend the display to run across a second monitor or does it just mirror the main display?

The one problem I am having is when I hook up the vga to the mini dvi converter and the other end to my TV monitor. What is showing on my TV monitor is an echo of what is showing on my computer screen and not what is showing in the video window (which are the words to the song that is playing). I was told that I need to have the desktop extended and that would separate what is showing on the computer screen and the small window with the words.

For a while now my eMac monitor has been flickering and my screen geometry has been fluctuating (it comes out about a half inch on each side, then snaps back to regular size). I just came back from getting something to eat and my screen was black; power light was on and the computer was humming but totally black screen. I clicked and moved the mouse and hit some keys, but no response (power saver settings are turned off). I did a hard reset using the power button and the screen remained black for several seconds before it finally came back.
This computer is pretty old, I've had it for 6 or 7 years now. I think the monitor is finally going out. I definitely don't have enough for a new computer, so I want to squeeze as much use out of this one as I can. Are there any ways I can extend the life of this monitor and/or repair it? If not, what's the cheapest way to work-around a dead monitor? Is it even possible to attach an external display to an eMac?

The display on My IMac G5 running 10.5.8 is pink and the images are ghostlike! My screen saver is neon green! Is my Mac dying? It has done this before and after I was doing my work for a few hours, it come back to normal and shocked my eyes! This time it has been going on for about 4 days now!

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
As said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.

I hooked up my macbook pro to a mini display port to a dvi -> hdmi to my tv no problem. However, when I hooked up the mini display -> dell monitor, I get nothing. The screen is black. The weird thing is that my macbook pro recognizes that a second monitor is plugged in... it just won't display anything
View 9 Replies View Relatedwe are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences.
I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?
I was surprised one day to find an inch of white line running from top to bottom on my screen. Then after a week it expanded to two inches white line, then suddenly it turned all black and I can't see two inches of my screen from the right edge. I was reading some forums and found out that I can use a dell monitor as a secondary monitor, but is it possible to use the dell monitor as the primary monitor in case the black line will spread throughout the entire iMac screen? so the iMac would serve as a stand alone processor like a regular desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMacPro 8 core Nvidia 8800, RAID card - arrived 2/25. Tried second monitor; monitor is blank (and turned on, and says "digital signal" when unplugging display connector from the machine, so it's recognizing the connection, monitor is fine on old G5). RMA'd for a new 8800, rec'd that on 2/28 - same result, so it's probably not the card. Tried 8800 card in different slots, so probably not a slot. Ram lights flash, HD spins, power light is on, so likely not power supply. Motherboard or RAM is only other thing I can think of, or maybe some kind of incompatibility with the 8800. Also, the fans on both 8800's run at what seems like full power when turning the machine on - is that typical for the 8800? Maybe that's a symptom of the problem; it's a lot louder than I would prefer.

I would like to know how to turn off the macbook display without having to close it. I want to know that because if i don't close the macbook, both displays are on. If i close the macbook, the computer goes to sleep and then i press some keys on keyboard and the mac wake. In that point, if i open my macbook the display is turned off like i want. But i don't want to have to close the macbook all the time, and i don't want to leave the macbook closed because closed the temperature goes high.
Just a piece of info for those considering driving a 30 inch Monitor with the Mini: The mini-display port to Dual Link DVI adapter Apple is offering is not working. There are some other forums discussing this problem with the unibody Macbook pro. I've been using mine since Dec. At irregular intervals the screen becomes blurry (weird double lines all over), and the only thing that works is plugging back in or (more harmless if you have multiple projects up and don't want them to be scattered all over the screen) Control-Shift-Eject to put the display to sleep, then wake it back up after a few seconds with mouse or keyboard. This can be very annoying as sometimes one has to repeat it multiple times. Apple is aware of the problem, but has not come forward with a solution. I just don't want you guys to be disappointed in your new Mini with a capable graphics card...

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I hook up an external monitor to the DVI output, and use both the macbook screen, and the external, the display on the external is blurry, and not very sharp. However, when I close the macbook, and run it in clamshell mode, the external becomes very clear, and crisp (like it should). But how do I get the text to look more like the Mac's text? My Macbook display looks so much sharper. The text on the Dell looks very not anti-aliased...it isn't thick, etc.
