IMac PPC :: Display On Monitor Pixelated And Pink?
Apr 13, 2012
The display on My IMac G5 running 10.5.8 is pink and the images are ghostlike! My screen saver is neon green! Is my Mac dying? It has done this before and after I was doing my work for a few hours, it come back to normal and shocked my eyes! This time it has been going on for about 4 days now!

I own an early 2008 iMac running Snow Leopard. A few months ago, it started getting a little buggy and running slow, you know, things you would expect from a computer that's now 2 years old. But then it started freezing and giving me "kernel panics". Of course, the first thing I did was install VirusBarrier and remove any and all viruses it could find, and I repaired the disk and disk permissions and ran all the diagnostic tests from the install DVD. Then I left it unplugged for a day, upgraded the memory from 2 GB to 4 GB and did everything a second time. After all that, everything seemed to work just fine.
Now it seems to be starting all over again! This time the virus scan only picked up a few Windows viruses on an old external hard drive and repairing the disk, disk permissions, and running diagnostics turned up nothing. I've done everything I know to do, short of taking the thing back to Apple! Right now, the main issue is this bug at startup that's really just freaking me out. Linked is a video of what happens. The apps that run at startup are BumpTop, HughesNet Status Meter (as of last month), and Brother Printer Utility. [URL]

I have an iMac G4 running 10.4.11. (not intel). When I turned it on today, it was all pixilated, little white squares in between the colored ones. I can hardly make out what is on the screen so I can?t really choose anything using the mouse. Everything else seems normal except for the the screen.

I bought a Belkin Thunderbolt 2 Express HD Dock and connected my Samsung monitor (1920 x 1080) using the Thunderbolt through connector. The monitor looks pink, sometimes green, whatever – not balanced color. When I connect the monitor directly to the Thunderbolt connector on the Mac, it's fine.

I bought a used powerbook 15" Ti 1ghz, that upon powering on, or coming out of sleep mode for about 15-20 secs the screen has a pink tint. What might cause this? Is it going to die? Is it something I should repair, or live with? Do these screens warm up? it doesnt bother me to much if it doesnt get worse or stop working.

I just bought a Samsung XL2370 monitor to hook onto my MBP 15".
Problem: the image is pixelated and blurry green. I can slightly see the background though. Screen works fine on a Windows pc. Before I hooked up a 19" on my MBP and that also worked.
I tried the menu but no luck. And when I choose the auto adjustment a message appears 'not available'.

new Dell S2209W monitor to hook up to the Macbook as an external display and so far have been pretty disappointed. Sadly, it's not the monitor I'm disappointed in. First of all, a few comparison shots between the Macbook connected to S2009W and a PC connected to the S2009W:Macbook connected to Dell S2209W:PC Laptop connected to Dell S2209WSo what would you even call that effect? The colors in the shadows looked very dithered or pixelated on the Macbook, yet on the PC laptop the image looks great. Both laptops (the Macbook and PC) are running at the same, native resolution of 1920 x 1080. The wallpapers are scaled the same way on both.

I have an old iMac G4 and I was wondering if I could just use the screen somehow since I don't need to use it as a computer? Could I use it like a TV to play xbox or something?

I hate to complain but this just sucks. After dealing with multiple repairs with my 24" iMac, I got a 27" as a replacement. I always keep my iMac just a bit over half brightness. I have the same problem again! why the same issue is occurring and what should I tell apple if they can't fix it!

My wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

I have an iMac G5 (rev. B with ambient light sensor) which has suddenly started having a problem where the entire screen is covered with pink artifacts. The iMac had been left on overnight and when waking up in the morning I found the screen looking like this and now it continues to stay like this no matter what I do. I have attached a screenshot and was wondering if anyone might have a clue what has caused this to happen

I own a 17" g5 imac and today I was just browsing on Firefox and all of a sudden the screen became checkered with thin pink and white lines. It is most noticeable on the menu bar and anything that is grey or white in color. It is not checkered on the blue background behind my desktop photo. I have an external monitor plugged in as well and the same thing is happening to that monitor.
I have a powerPC imac G5
OSX 10.5.8
1.5GB DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9600
Here is a screen shot:
Haven't reformatted it yet. Hope there is a better solution. Purchased it used about a year ago. No warranty.

Got the iMac 27" Late 2009 (bought it when it came out). Its always had the 'pixelated' issue (see attachment) just before the login screen appears but I've never bothered too much as its not been a problem, until recently where I am getting a lot of 'Kernel Panics' (screen wipes down and locks done entirely, have to restart to get the system up and running again). I am starting to think that the screen issue is finally starting to shows its true colours. Yes, I've done the PRAM resets, disk repairs, up-to-date with all the software etc. No joy.

I have a late 2006 24" IMac which has a myriad of issues. The most concerning to me at this point is the occasional appearance of a 1-2 pixel wide horizontal line which runs from 2" across to sometimes as much as 12" across the screen. It happens most often on the desktop and in firefox. It disappears as mysteriously as it appears.
Could the graphics card be going bad? Any ideas on what might be happening and how I might be able to solve this.

I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?

As said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.

we are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences.
I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?

This is the image I get on my iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo OSX10.5.4. I have repaired permisions and removed all login items. Once I move the cursor or open up a window the screen clears behind the cursor or window etc... It freezes up at least once or twice a day...
I started up again and attached another screen, the image was normal on both screens. But alone the iMac still starts up with the pixelated screen.
