Have white vertical line in center of screen display. Do I need a new system or can it be fixed?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I started noticing what I describe as ant-lines running vertically across my late 2009 27" iMac. I am fairly certain that they were not there before but I can't really remember. I did a search and found some discussions regrading video issues and vertical line anomalies but none like what I am seeing. url...It's noticable from a distance of about 2 feet and closer. It's not visible on white or black but midtones is where I see it. It gets really distracting at about 20" and closer, especially in iPhoto when scrolling through photos.Has anyone else seen anything like this and do you guys think I will have any luck getting something like this fixed with a Genius appointment? I do still have AppleCare.

Yesterday a vertical blue line appeared on my Mac display, which can be seen all the time but not when it is turned off.I can't make a screenshot off it, you can't see it on them.My Warranty just ran out one month ago.And I didn't used the imac very often, wasn't much gaming or running it the whole day, just using it for school works.Actually I am very disappointed of Apple, bought my first imac because I thought instead of a PC it would last 4 years at least.

There is a vertical line that runs from the top to the bottom of my screen. How do I get rid of it?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
anyone has experienced a wide (2cm) white vertical line on a macbook pro. Screenshots are OK so it's not the GFX but hopefully someone may know if it is likely to be a cable or the actual LCD?
Simply using my Imac for watching tv on the web, Hulu, and left to help my wife get groceries in the house. My wife checked her email and closed Safari.
I came back in roughly 10 minutes from when she shut down Safari to see a black screen with white pinstriping, and the mac being totally unresponsive. Shut down and rebooted, sent off the report to Apple, and am now here with seemingly no problems.
Needless to say, as a photographer this computer is just about as important as my camera. Should I be worried? discovered the thread to this issue, which appears to be quite extensive.

How do I get rid of a vertical white stripe that appeared on my iMac screen? It is two inches wide. I just updated Firefox before it appeared.

I have a 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac that has developed a vertical yellow line in the display that won't go away even when restarted. It's like a 1 pixel column of dead pixels right in the middle of the screen. I think it's still under warranty. Is this something that can be fixed under the warranty?View 3 Replies View Related
I have a vertical line that appears on my screen and it's happened before. I took a screenshot but it doesn't appear? The last time this happened, it was fixed for free but I'm wondering if this is a common issue or is something wrong with my model? Version 10.6.4View 5 Replies View Related
i was using my (late 2008) macbook 2.0Ghz when i noticed a vertical Blue Line going across the screen from the top to the bottom. I have uploaded pictures for you guys to see below.MY APPLECARE HAS ENDED!Can someone explain if this is something wrong with the LCD screen itself or the video card or the connector is loose? And if its a software or hardware problem, how to solve it by software? i have quoted asolution. But can someone verify if it works?View 11 Replies View Related
I had the bad discovery today,of an vertical and voilet line in the middle of my screen, running from top to bottom.
I don't really know what to do,but this line is really annoying while watching a movie.
I have been a Mac user for 20 years because their product has been reliable despite the higher cost. Recently a pink verticle line started left side of screen. My extended care has expired. They charged me $49 to talk to tech support who said it was a hardware problem. They said the cost would be mine. I explained how numerous complaints about this issue is on the internet and they should pay for the repair. i have to drive 50 miles to an authorized Mac repair shop. I am disgusted with their product and lack of concern for an ongoing problem. Probably will not buy another Apple product since they care so little about quality anymore.

My PB/667 took a fall about 18 mos ago. It's been fine ever since, except there is a single vertical line RIGHT DOWN THE CENTER - top to bottom. It's about two pixels wide and appears to be a bright green/near white color. Any display pixes that fall on this line are not visible.
A coworker suggested that this could be fixed but didn't offer how. Have any of you heard of this sort of issue? Is it fixable?
i noticed a faint vertical line of pixels on the far left of my screen. they weren't black or colored, just faint/dim. i tried switching my desktop background, and the line was still there. i restarted my computer, and the line was still there. i shut down the computer, thinking that i would find the line there in the morning and have to take it to the apple store.
when i turned the computer on the next morning, there was no line. however, later that evening i noticed a reappearance of the line. i restarted the computer and left for a while. when i came back later, i woke the computer from sleep mode, and the line was gone.
there was no line on the computer this morning, although after a couple hours of use, i noticed that two lines had developed on the edge of where i had application windows open -- in this case, both yahoo messenger for mac. curiously, this didn't happen with other windows (finder, safari, etc).
Continues to run but screen is off. Will sometimes come back on after a few minutes. Works fine after unplugging and letting sit for a while.View 3 Replies View Related
I actually don't know how long I've had this problem, as I just sort of noticed it one day (it's not all that readily apparent). The title of this thread basically says it all. There's a "fuzzy," thin white(ish)/translucent band that stretches horizontally across my 15'' glossy MacBook Pro display (purchased in early 2010, so I guess it's considered a mid 2009 model), about an inch up from the bottom of the bezel. It's only super noticeable on top of relatively neutral colors. I'm quite certain that it's a hardware issue, as it doesn't appear in screenshots. I've attached a photograph to this thread so you can see it for yourself.. the band I'm talking about is just above the mouse pointer (and clearly my dock is hidden so you can see it easier). If there are any hardware savvy people here, I'd be most appreciative if you could clue me in to the exact nature of the problem, and whether or not you think I could fix it myself... I think my basic 1 year warranty is still good, but I haven't decided if the problem is worth living without my mac for a few days (or weeks? this is my first apple computer, so I don't know how long repairs typically take).View 1 Replies View Related
I've had this iMac about a year now, and i have had this problem for a while but thought i'de leave it for abit and see if it heals its self. As sometimes the line is more visible than other times and sometimes it's not even there!
I have 2 pictures which i snapped with my iPhone, so i will link you too them.
The line is not majorly visible, but it is just annoying considering i payed 1000 for this iMac.
Picture1: Line overlapping my iTunes.
Picture2: Line on boot up.
I brought my iMac out of sleep today and noticed that there is a vertical line of broken flashing pixels going down the entire screen. The line is 1pixel thick and stretches from the bottom to the top of the screen.
Is there any way to fix this?
how to make a vertical dotted line in Pages, I've been to Inspector and went to the T, then to Borders and Shading. It does let me make a dotted line but not vertically. Is there any other way to flip the line vertically or another way to make a line so it is vertical?
I have only recently started noticing this, it is mostly visible on the white screen at boot up but just faintly noticed it now against my background.
It is a fading black line going down the left hand side of the screen, it starts at the top kind of fades in the middle then comes out again.
I honestly have no idea what this is, i will try catch a picture on my phone soon and post it up.
UPDATE: Sometimes the line is clear, sometimes it is faint and even sometimes it isn't even there!
I've had my MBP for about 2 weeks and yesterday a white vertical line about an inch long appeared on the right edge of the screen.
It went away after a restart, so I thought nothing of it, but now another one has appeared. Picture:
They mostly appear only on the desktop, but occasionally crop up when I'm running apps.
Is this something I can fix or is it a video adapter issue? I have searched and come up with some similar motherboard issues but they are mostly older macs.
there are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.View 6 Replies View Related
The other day the screen started blinking randomly. It'll flicker for a few seconds and then go white with vertical grey lines for a few seconds. Then it will go back to normal. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. Sometimes it will go through that process for five minutes and then stop. Other times I can be working on it for hours and nothing will blink or act screwed up.View 7 Replies View Related
Twice in the last couple of days, these white and gray vertical bars/lines would appear on my IMAC screen. In between those times, my screen just went black, but I can tell the IMAC was still on, because it wasn't a pitch black as if the computer was off. Each time, the only way I could get the screen to appear back to normal was to turn off the computer and turn it back on?
This is not good. This is my second MAC. The first one after a year and a half, just poofed up in smoke. (Seriously, that is exactly what happened. I was sitting there, and all of a sudden the screen went black and a puff of smoke appeared from the back.) And now after owning this second one for almost two years, I've suddenly started getting these vertical white and gray bars and the black screen.
Anyone have any idea? I was simply looking up info on a website when these events happened.

My partner's PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67Ghz) which, of course, ended it's Applecare on June 28th, developed a glitch on the screen today: a white line that is 1 pixel wide and runs the length of the screen. It just started out of the blue - no dropping of computer, no power surge, no external reason. One minute it was fine the next it had this line.
Any body ever encounter a problem like this? And if so, how did you get rid of it (either repairing it via a technician or by oneself) and how much did it cost?
I'm betting it's a sign that it's time to get a new computer.
I bought my Imac at the beginning of '06 and it's been great but today a small white line appeared running vertically all the way down the screen and over the dock and menu bar. it's white during boot up and then yellow after everything is loaded..does anybody have an idea what this is or how to fix it?View 7 Replies View Related
I have an iMac 2.8 24 inch, about Two years old running 10.5.7 , when I start the computer it shows the normal Gray screen for about 30 seconds, then the screen goes all Black , but with a small flashing white line ( _ ) in the top Left hand side corner.
It just stays all Black for ever , I then hold down the On / Off button and turn off the computer, I then hold down the keyboard '' option key '' and press the on button at the same time , then I get the option to start from the main HDD , I click the Icon and the computer then starts normally , and every thing runs ok.
Can some one please tell me what I have to do to get my iMac to start up normally again , Ive run Repair Disk permissions but the problem still occurs . Over the last few day's Ive been trying out a few new applications, so not too sure if this has any thing to do with this current problem
My screen just started to occasionally have a flicker of a white line show up...
It doesn't happen that often, should i worry? Is it worth taking it into apple? (Under warranty still) Since its not consistent i wont necessarily be able to show them what its doing..
now 8 months old macbook unibody (6,1) has a line missing in the lcd panel. Will apple replace it?
I really think it's a display issue. I've done the usuall supects (pram, reformat, repair premissions and everything).
And sometimes I get white boxes in the screen, but it passes the hardware test.
I've posted an screenshot with the line that's missing painted in red.
Edit: An screenshot of the mystery white box Edit2: Found out what is the problem of the lcd, it's one of that two polarizing filters that has fallen a little. Still not sure if apple will cover it
Everything is perfect except a white back light bleeding in a form of a line from above 3-4 inches from the bottom of the screen. Its only visible in solid black background.View 24 Replies View Related
It is random and is only across internet windows, not the entire screen.
looks like morse code, short and long lines.. just one line. it goes away on its own.
iMac 10.4.11 roughly 3-4 years old.
Do I have pending monitor issues ?
It started out as one line and has increased to 6. Its display has vertical lines on bottom of screen
Whenever I try to use Screen Sharing to control this one particular Mac Mini, and someone else is using the mini, and I pick "Connect to Virtual Display", I get dropped to a grey linen screen. Like the login screen, but without a list of usernames or anything. There it sits. Here is what I see in the console of the mac mini when I try and use a virtual display from the other machine:

I have recently noticed two vertical lines (seem to be a lighter shade of display screen color) running top to bottom on my desktop. They stay on my display screen all of the time. This lovely old guy was purchased May 2006 but has every upgrade (except Lion....running Snow Leopard) and full component of memory...serves me well but I need to know if this is a sign I am losing my hardware.

I have a core i7 MBP with the high res display, and when the display is showing black, a horizontal green line appears on the screen. It is only visible when the screen is showing black or another very very dark color, and the line is not visible with the screen off. It isnt something on the screen, as rubbing it does not affect it at all. I cannot post a screenshot of it, because it does not appear in the screenshot (it does on my screen, because the line is there physically, but on other monitors it is not visible).View 3 Replies View Related
