Desktops :: Need 27 IMac I7 To Serve As Display To Lenovo ThinkPad T410
Oct 3, 2010
My new 27" i7 iMac will be delivered tomorrow! My workplace has me use a Lenovo 410 Thinkpad which has Displayport slot (Lenovo - Laptop computers - ThinkPad T Series - Technical Specifications). I am looking to use my iMac as a second display for the Leonovo 410 Thinkpad so when I work from home I can have an extended PC desktop etc. I am under the impression that the 27" iMac supports Displayport input from external Displayport devices so what cable or adapters do I need to pull this off?

Lenovo answered just about every complaint with the MBA... check out the photos. Oh, and it's thickest point is thinner than the MBA's thickest. Yes, yes, the MBA has OS X and it's much sexier, but this makes me wonder which I should be saving up for. [URL]

I want to extend the desktop of a Mac Pro. Can I use the Powerbook as a second display? I searched and the answer seems to be no, but if anyone knows a way, I'd love to hear it!

I would like to get your feedback about any of these machines if you have tested any of them by any chance. I myself enjoyed using the Vaio TT a lot and it felt very fast in doing everyday tasks. The screen is very crisp and it does not suffer any lines or light bleeding like the MBAs screen. In addition, the keyboard is dead silent compared to the Air's! Please keep your Vista sucks comments to yourself and try to judge these machines based on their performance, specs and looks and simply forget about the OS for now. I am kind of sick of waiting for a problem-free MBA screen so I might consider one of these machines (mainly the Vaio TT or Lenovo X200) to be my on the go machine since the OS isn't going to matter much on the go even though I would still prefer Mac OS any time.

I've decided that the 13.3" unibody MacBook Pro would be the perfect laptop if only it had a higher-rez display, and I'm sick of waiting for Apple to offer it.
I use 1440x900 on my 15-inch MBP and while I've found that it's (barely) enough to work comfortably, I'm not really interested in the physical size or the obnoxiously-poor pixel density of this machine any longer.
Though it seems that nearly every laptop manufacturer has a raging hard-on for throwing low-dpi displays into 13-inch machines, Lenovo offers a laptop (ThinkPad X300/X301) with an LED-backlit 13.3-inch 1440x900 screen.
Inspired by a long, long read through the technical wizardry in the CCFL-based MacBook Pro WUXGA display transplant thread, I'm terrifically curious as to whether it would be possible to get an X300's or X301's display into a 13.3" MBP.

I have a mint condition 20 inch Apple cinema display, to hook this beautiful display to my laptop (Thinkpad SL400) which hasn't DVI output, I just bought a (female) DVI to (male) VGA converter online, unfortunately, there is nothing show up in the display. What I did: 1, try different screen resolution, I believe the native resolution of Apple display is 1680*1050, but still doesn't work. 2. try different OS in my laptop (Win 7 and Ubuntu), both don't work.

My 17inch iMac G5 has a vertical shaded band in the display that I cannot remove. Does anyone know how to fix this or it this now a permanent problem? The picture underneath is not corrupted, however it is a lighter shade. The vertical band is about 2 inches wide.

For 1399, you get HD, blu-ray, 1TB disk, TV tuner, remote. They claim to be thinner than the iMac. Anyone own one of these?

I've decided to buy a Mac Mini to use as a work machine and then depending on it's performance, I will either replace it with an iMac and my girlfriend will use the Mac Mini as her work machine or just buy another Mac Mini for her. However, at the moment, in addition to me using the Mac Mini, I am currently using a Windows machine and my girlfriends work machne is a Windows machine. Is there a storage solution that could serve both Windows and OSX through the network? How about some kind of file server like Linux or Windows? What would you recommend?

Could any readers recommend an affordable basic external hard drive for a macbook air, which would also serve as a back-up for my old pc laptop? I don't need it to be portable, just to serve as back-up at home, though if it doesn't escalate the price too much wireless would be a bonus. I see there is a vast range of products available at a vast range of prices

I am very computer savvy and am the neighborhood/work "go-to" guy for PC/Mac/iPhone/anything type stuff. I have been all Mac for about a year now so I am still learning. I currently have the lousy WRT160N Linksys router. I am very confused about Extreme/Express base station. All the mess about music and portability is confusing to me. Does it serve as a fully functional router?

Hi. I need to know whether the RAM in my Lenovo Thinkstation S20 is the same as the one used in the new Mac Pro, as I plan to swap them if I need more RAM at some point.
It uses DDR3, 10600E (1333), ECC, Unbuffered DIMMS.

I just want your opinions on which keyboard is better... the Traditional, Thinkpad-reputable Lenovo X201 keyboard or the Chiclet keyboard of the MacBook Pro. I have experience with Chiclet keyboards with the first generation MacBook I used from 2006 to 2007 and the HP DM3z I am currently using since I bought it in October 2009, and am really satisfied with it, but also was really satsifed with my MacBook Pro "classic" keyboard.

My wife has an old Performa 6300CD she is about to replace with a new Mac (model TBD). However, I use an IBM ThinkPad and need to transfer some old files from her Performa before she gets rid of it.
Aside from the challenge of translating Mac-formatted files and documents to IBM format, the bigger problem appears to be that the Performa seems to be dying. It never had the ability to write CDs and actually stopped writing floppies some time ago. There is no USB port. It claims to have inadequate memory to e-mail the files over, but in fact there is enough space and won't allow me to increase memory to e-mail (AOL).
Is there any way to transfer/transmit files and documents from the old Performa to my ThinkPad before it's too late?

I'm new here, but not new to the Mac world. I own an intel iMac and while I was attempting to restart it on Sunday night it went into a gray screen with the box asking me to shut and restart in several languages. I did and still get stuck on that page. I did a PRAM reset and that didn't work. So I used my start up disk to get to the disk utility and my HD is fine so I used an external drive to install the OS on it and reboot from and reinstalled from TimeMachine (only problem is the last time I backed up was 5 months ago)Again I checked my internal drive and everything seems okay, but I cannot reboot from it. BTW, I've OS 10.6.2,

When I start my iMAC (OS X) there is a good chance that it WILL NOT pair with my Logitech M555b (Bluetooth) mouse. It IS set to be "discoverable." The Apple mouse's trackball was a constant problem; it had to be cleaned often. Changed to the M555b and now I'm being punished by the MAC gods for my infidelity.

Have a 17" G5 iMac iSight (OS 10.5.8) that works normally for several hours and then the CPU temperature suddenly spikes and the computer shuts itself down. When I check the Temperature Monitor (application) history graph, it shows normal temperatures and then a spike. There are 3 fans and I don't know which is failing or whether there's something in the temperature sensing that's gone haywire. My only solution is to do a forced restart. By this time, things have cooled and it will work for several hours.

Recently, my iMac (Intel Core) started to slow down the longer I use it. Applications take ages to launch. Sometimes even opening a folder takes a long time. I have to force quit more and more times. I also have to literally pull out the plug when it just hangs. this is especially bad when it wakes up after I put it to sleep mode.
Is this a RAM issue? I'm running on 4GB RAM.

my iMac ejects blank discs when I try to burn music in Tunes or when I insert a music CD to play it.The disc spins around for about 15 seconds, then it gets ejected. I made sure the surface of the discs were clean and that I was burning from a "playlist," all to no avail. I was successful at playing a movie in iDVD, though, so I'm baffled.

My mother-in-law has an old Blueberry iMac which works ok except it won't connect to the internet/LAN. It is the computer, because the cable that used to connect the iMac to the internet is currently connected to a different computer and it works perfectly. The iMac runs Mac OSX 10.3.9. Has something died inside the iMac?
