Applications :: Using Auto Check Function In Mail?

Oct 14, 2010

Does the Mail application have to be running or in the background for the Auto setting to function in getting my email? If so I guess it can't do this function like the iPhone? I am new to the Mac, so sorry if I sound uniformed.

OS X :: Apple Mail Auto Check Spelling In Multiple Languages?

Apr 18, 2009

new to apple, used to Thunderbird (window version) that detect your language and check the spelling automatically. I write emails everyday in 3 languages and so far what i do is: in a new email, right clic to open a menu, then clic spelling and grammar / clic show spelling and grammar / choose your language / close the menu. Mac is great, there MUST be a plug in or a faster way.

Applications :: Mac Mail/Spell Check Not Working?

Jan 21, 2009

I'm running Mac OS X (Version 10.5.6) on my PowerBook G4.

My Spell Check in Mail (3.5) hasn't been "Checking as I type," even tho that setting is checked. I've done everything from restarting mail to shutting down my system and completely restarting the computer. That normally works when I've had this problem in the past. Not this time.

What's IS happening, is that Mail is doing a red underline in the first word of every new line of my email messages, even when those words are spelled correctly. However, aside from underlining the first word of each line, other misspelled words -- in the body -- are not being caught.

Is there any program that you can upload a text list or Excel list to and it will do this automatically and create the e-mails in your drafts folder? Don't want to use a online sending service because they put crap at the bottom of the e-mail and recipients know it's automated.Want the people to think it's not something automated. Also, I know there's a way to schedule delivery of a message for a future date in Apple Mail via Apple Script, but you seem to have to schedule one by one. Any watch to do a batch scheduling?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail Won't Function On It

May 2, 2012

I recently installed Lion on my iMac 27 with the flashdrive that I purchased from Apple. I've been very leary of doing this, but finally gave in. So far I'm not thrilled. I have a MacBook Pro in another room with OSX 10.5.8 (Snow Leopard) which operates off Wifi. It is too old and under rammed to support Lion. It is used mainly by my wife. The only problem is that the mail does not work on it. I assume it's because of iCloud. iCloud stinks, AFAIC. Is there any way I can run email without iCloud?† I don't have ANY other "i" products to sync together. I only have the laptop and the iMac 27. I DON't want iCloud if I don't have to use it. MobileMe was much better!

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail 'check For New Messages' Despite It Being Set To 'manual'?

May 1, 2012

I want to only receive new email either once per hour or better still manually (once or twice during the day at a time chosen by me). That way I won't be bombarded with emails all day and can get on with my work.

So, I set the 'check for new messages' to 'manually'. Nevertheless I get email coming in frequently. Possibly every time I send an email, it also checks for new incoming mail (I'm not sure but that's my hunch).

How can I stop Mail from pulling in my new incoming email? Any answers to this? If I can't figure this out or it's not possible in Apple Mail, it might be time to switch (but I don't want to!)

MacBook Pro :: Mail Application Going Crazy On Auto Start?

Sep 23, 2009

I just bought a new macbook pro a little over a month ago and have since upgraded to Snow Leopard (fresh install). One day about a week ago, out of no where, the mail application seemed to launch itself whenever I opened my laptop (resume from hibernate?). It is asking me for my name and email address to start setting it up. From there, I press cancel and the window disappears but the icon stays on the dock like its open and when I go to the Force Quit window it shows Mail as not responding and I have to force quit it. This doesnt happen every time but happens pretty often for seemingly no reason.
