Applications :: Using Spanish Spell Check In Mail?
Apr 30, 2008
I use Mail as my email application in Leopard, and write emails in both English and Spanish. If I add a Spanish dictionary to the dictionary App will that atomatically be used in spell check as well? If so does anyone have and recomendations? If not what can I do to have spell check in both languages?
I am trying pages '08 in hopes that it will be the long sought replacement for MS word. Only one problem so far - I do lots of writing in Spanish but there is no way to access the Spanish dictionary in my Pages spell checker. When I hit <spelling> and then <spelling> the spell dialog comes up ok but only in English and there is no dictionary button that will allow me to change languages. It is not a problem with the OS X speller because the dictionary and dialogs work fine in both Spanish and English in other programs such as Mellel, Word, and even in the '08 versions of Keynote and Numbers. I love everything else about it so far but this one quirk would make it impossible for me to give up Word. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem with Pages?
As someone taking spanish for a class in school it would be greatly beneficial to spell check both English and Spanish in the spell checker in Pages. Is this possible?
I'm running Mac OS X (Version 10.5.6) on my PowerBook G4.
My Spell Check in Mail (3.5) hasn't been "Checking as I type," even tho that setting is checked. I've done everything from restarting mail to shutting down my system and completely restarting the computer. That normally works when I've had this problem in the past. Not this time.
What's IS happening, is that Mail is doing a red underline in the first word of every new line of my email messages, even when those words are spelled correctly. However, aside from underlining the first word of each line, other misspelled words -- in the body -- are not being caught.
Will Snow Leopard's spell check replacement feature in text edit carry over to mail, forum posts, etc? Taht sure would make me happy... Like back there when I spelled taht.
I have the latest unofficial MS Office 2011 and all the words in my documents that are in English are underlined with a red color telling me to spell check. When I right click on the word, it gives me the suggested words in Turkish. I went under tools/language and change it back to English but it automatically changes back to Turkish or sometimes to Portuguese. I had this issue on the MS Office 2008 as well and I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to fix this.
I have spell check activated in mac mail but it does not pick up the small letter i. I had this problem before with my PC and was able to correct it by "adding" it to the dictionary. I m unable to figure out how to do it with mac mail and was hoping for some assistance.
Whenever I try to use the spell checker in MS Word for Mac 2008 the "add" button is grayed out. I have verified the U.S. English and other settings yet the app does not allow me to add a word.
i am having trouble with my mac messenger. It use to check spelling all the time but, lately it has stopped and i cant find the option to turn it on.I am currently using a Macbook Pro on Snow leopard
My spell check is completely broken. It wont correct or highlight misspelled words. I cant even go into the spell check preferences (it's just grayed out). And there's no spell check item in the toolbar, or menu bar.
I came across this thread but the method explained there did not work for me. Does anyone know what could be wrong?
When I am running spellcheck, sometimes I need to click on "ignore" and sometimes on "ignore all". If I click on "ignore" the first time and then move on to the second queried word "ignore" doesn't work. I have to click on "ignore all". Then the third time "ignore all" doesn't work and then I click on "ignore". So basically I have to alternate between the two options all of the time.
I use MacBook 13" Intel Core 2 Duo , OS 10.4.11, Safari 4.03 . I used to be able to check my e.mail for spellings in the past, but for some time now I have lost this facility. Every time I click on the spellings check it gives a message more,it seems, related to a desk top computer.
My topic basically says it all. I have a mac with word installed and would like to figure out how to spell check my documents in French. Anybody know how to do this?
Right clicking and going through through the grammar and spelling options, no combination seems to give me what I had in 10.6.8 namely a red underline underneath mispelled words and the ability to ignore that or right click it for suggestions and other options. Does this functionality still exist in Safari? It does in Mail, but I can't spell check anything I type in a forum with Safari like I used to.Safari 5.1.3 and OS 10.7.3
Info: Mac Pro early 2009 2.26 dual quad , Mac OS X (10.7.4)
For some reason spell check does not work on my mac. I have Microsoft Word 2004 and as far as I can see I have the spell check on and it should be functioning correctly. No matter how many words I spell incorrectly, I'll hit Check Spelling, and it'll say that there aren't an errors. I click ok and that's it.
For the past few weeks (maybe months) I've been experiencing a problem with my spell check while typing feature. Up until this evening I could even have it checked off in Adium, but after I downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5 file (something someone suggested in another thread) the spelling options are all greyed out completely. I have restarted Adium a few times to try to fix it to no avail.
The checker works fine in Safari, but when I use Adium it doesn't work. I found a thread on another site that suggested moving one of the Dictionary files to the desktop, and also holding option, command, p and r down at the same time. That second tip seemed to work a while ago, but since then I can't get it to work again.
I read somewhere that the spell check was messed up because of one of the recent apple updates. I feel like I've had it in other programs too I just can't think of them at the moment.
I regularly e-mail/chat back and forth with friends in the Netherlands and Germany, so I was wondering if there was a way for me to do a quick system wide language change that could spell-check for me. So, what are those little flags for on my Menu Bar? I have the Dutch, German, and American flags, but I don't notice any changes when I switch between the three.
I need to add knitting, crochet, and yarn/fiber vocabularly terms so spell check will stop "correcting" terms that are in point of fact spelled correctly. Where/how does one do this? I've been told to look for the LocalDictionary in Library in my account folder... but I don't *see* any Library folder, never mind a Spell or LocalDictionary folder anywhere.
In one document in MS Word 2004, the language keeps reverting to French. I try resetting both the default language and the language choice as English (Tools > Language...), however, rather quickly it reverts back to French. This messes up the spell check. What can I do to keep it on English? (With a google search, I did find a 2005 post that mentions this as a systemic problem. But that forum didn't seem to offer a solution: [URL:....] Has this been settled elsewhere?)Second problem, perhaps related. MS Word automatically corrects some spelling as I type. However, in the document with the French problem, the text is being corrected in a weird way. It's not accepting a semi-colon ; next to a word. Instead, it inserts a space between the word and the semi-colon. What's that all about and how do I change it? Are these problems related?
I've been using Microsoft Word (Word 2004 for Mac, Version 11.5.5) for about two and half years with no problems... starting this morning, whenever I right-click a word for spellcheck, Word freezes and I have to force-quit. I've restarted, checked updates, and am at a loss. Leopard (not Snow) and Word both have all current updates.
My OS X is Ver 10.5.8. I use a bluetooth German keyboard for my German correspondence I need a German Spell Check that will work across all applications the way Spell Check works in English.
When I started using Firefox with my macbook, If I mispelled a word, It shows a red line under it, and I would double click it and it give me a list of words to choose from. Now it doesnt do this and just gives me the regular right click window.
I have an IMac. When I am in mail and type a word incorrect I get an alert sound. I do not get the red dashed line. I have looked all over Preferences. What am I missing? This is annoying. If I do a manual spell check of a document then it still does not underline misspelled words. I tested it in Textedit as well. No red line under the words.
