I have iMovie '09 (8.0.2), and my Mac is full updated as well!
So, i have some mp4 files. I import them into an Event and then there are NO THUMBNAILS! GAH!
I did this a million times in iMovie '08! What is going on here?
Since i come from a Windows world, the first thing i tried is rebooting...no luck
I saw a couple of other threads talking about this and thought we should have a thread where you can show off and share your own custom made Genre thumbnails. In case your not sure how to do it this is a good guide: [URL]. Basically you need to create a jpeg, put it in the right folder (iTunes>Contents>Resources) with the correct name and then adjust a tiny bit of information in the genre plist.
Its very simple and people who have no experience with this kind of stuff will be able to do it easily. Also if (like me) you are annoyed at the fact that some genres are missing you can add your own in the exact same way as in he link posted. Note in mine that Action & Adventure are now two separate genres and i've added Gangster, Kung Fu, Comic & Anime. Mine are all supposed to be the best films of that genre (ok maybe not Transformers ). Pic link now added, download!
What does it mean when it says that you can't play a movie because a public atom was found in the file. I find that i have a number of movies that are victim to this. and i know it's happening during the drag and drop import into iTunes because i have the original file and it plays fine from the desktop in quiktime.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have my iTunes music etc. stored on my MBP, but movies are on an external HDD connected via Airport disk. When importing movies, I untick "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library" and drag and drop them in - that way the location points to my external drive. However, I imported a number of movies yesterday (in the same way I always have done) and whenever I open iTunes, the artwork of the newest movies is missing and an exclamation mark is next to them. But when I click on it, the exclamation mark goes, the artwork reappears and the movie plays. Quit and reopen iTunes and it's vanished again.

I imported a HD film from my Sony HD Handycam at full HD resolution. When I want to export it to iDVD for burning, the only publishing video option is 960 by 540. How do i get it to 1920 by 1080. I want to get HD quality but on a regular DVD disc.

If not, is there a file conversion tool anyone could recommend to convert Quicktime or other movie file types? Or do I have to somehow record out to a video to a deck and then import it back in to my iMovie?
I guess I expected iMovie to be something like Premiere. Would Final Cut allow me to do this?
After unsuccessfully trying to troubleshoot some problems for my dad from half way round the world I thought I had better ask for some help!
He has a Canon digital camera and a Sony he uses for underwater shots. He imports all of the pics and movies from both cameras into iPhoto, and the movies from both cameras play fine out of iPhoto.
Recently he has decided to start editing them in iMovie 8, and here comes the bit where I'm not 100% sure what he has been doing, but I'll try to explain as best I can. When he first opened iMovie it imported all of the movies out of iPhoto that he had taken with the Canon, but not those from the Sony. If he tries to import them manually then when he finds the file in Finder it is greyed out so he can't select it for import. The files have the extension .mpeg, which I got him to change to mp4 in case it was something as simple as that, but no luck.
Is this something to do with Sony using a proprietary MPEG encoding? I thought that if it playe din one iLife app it would play in any of them, but it seems not!
Importing a small motion movie into fcpx and I get this error "There is not enough disk space available at the selected destination. Please choose another one or clear some space" the destination is a new 6TB raid thats empty. I've created a new library on that drive and still get the same error!

A large collection of pictures (jpgs) was imported and after 2 days a lot of thumbnails are missing in the library. The images are still there, I can click on the gray spot the image supposed to be and view the preview and master.
It very annoying! I am planning to import about 10.000 images soon and this problem must be solved before.

My CPU usage during this process was around 10% so what gives? I have an early 2009 iMac with 4GB's of RAM.

I'm used to Bridge now, it's faster than iPhoto and I can use my own folder structure instead of the ridiculous "events". Places/Faces and the slideshow of iPhoto is great though.
Anyway, when I'm in "thumbnail view" in Bridge, the thumbnails exceed my screen width. So if I'm on the most right thumbnail on my screen, and I go one right, it goes about 3 more pictures to the right (which I can't see) before jumping to the next row (starting at the most left picture of course).
And I don't see any sliders: no horizontal and no vertical. I can scroll vertically though, but not horizontally.
I'm in need of an application that creates a single .jpg with multiple thumbnails within, giving you a preview of a video.
I have found a couple of apps that do this, such as Screen Grabber and QiPo. How ever, none of these are suitable;
Screen Grabber under 10.6 doesn't work with WMV files. The output image file is full of black frames.
QiPo is the best out of all of them, how ever it doesn't allow you to select how many thumbnails to have in the one preview image file (it's pre set to 18).
I have emailed the developer of Screen Grabber regarding a OS X 10.6 fix, but am yet to hear back from him, so in the mean time i am still trying to find a Mac app that can serve my needs.
I just opened iPhoto and found that when I click on an "Album" (menu to the left), it just opens up with full size images. It used to display thumbnails and I'd need to click on the image to open it into full size. Is there some option that I inadvertently adjusted to cause this change?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.5. I realized that whenever I open the finder window in Leopard, all icons (especially documents and image files) automatically changes to custom icons with a miniature image of the contents.
in Tiger, the only time you got the custom icon is if you specifically generated one.
How do I turn off this feature? I just want to see generic icons for documents.
My wire2ess key board is generating a 2 as you can see in the word wire2ess, how to fix?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having to manually re-add all the .ics files to each users shared calendar through iCal. I want to generate a list of users and their GUID's and I think dscl is the right tool. I don't have great bash skills nor can I get dscl to jump through hoops. I can get individual GUID's for a user using # dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/ -read /Search/Users/username but waht I would like to do is generate a list of all the users and their GUIDS ?how I can do that?

Thought I'd start this thread for people to discover/add any info they have on what iPhoto Faces is doing behind the scenes to help with troubleshooting, since Apple doesn't have any preferences for Faces in the iPhoto GUI. This is only for people who like to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Please note this is not for everyone and anytime you do anything to your iPhoto library you risk corruption and should have a backup copy. What I've noticed so far:
- iPhoto scans the library the first time it opens, and creates 2 faces .db files with the iPhoto Library:
face_blob.db
face.db
- iPhoto creates Faces thumbnails files and places them in the iPhoto Library/Data folder along with the other thumbnails it creates................
I burned a video I shot of my sons baseball game. Loaded it into iMovie and created a finished project. I shared it to iDVD and burned a DVD. By accident I deleted the project from the project liabrary (and the event.)How can I load information on the DVD, back on the hard Drive so I can keep the footage. My goal is to make a best of DVD at the end of the season.

There are like a total of 1200 and I really don't need all of them on my new iBook so I've limited it to 200 of close contacts and saved them as vcf. Then I emailed myself the vcf file and try opening it on my new iBook which happily imports them into Address Book instead of Entourage (it also seemed to lose alot of the details, like categories).
I look for option in Entourage to import a VCF and it doesn't seem to have it. How do I import a VCF into Entourage? Or how can I these select contacts onto my laptop installation of Entourage?
problem is that if I stick the HD card into my mac and fire up FCP I can import straight into and editing etc is all fine until I take the HD Card out and then I lose the media connection. I have tried saving the imported clips into various places on my hard drive (by way of "save as in FCP) but when it comes to finding them, whilst the file can be seen in the relevant part of system FCP cannot connect to them. However, ll is fine again when I put the HD card back into my computer.
