View 6 RepliesI'd used iPhoto for years, but recently switched to using Aperture. When setting up Aperture, I "imported" the iPhoto library by electing to leave the photos in their current location (i.e. in the iPhoto library). Any photos I subsequently imported into Aperture were placed in the Aperture library. With iLife '11 out, I'd now like to use iPhoto as my photo browsing program, since I like all the new features that Aperture is now lacking from a photo-viewing, book creation, etc standpoint. However, I prefer to use Aperture as my photo editing program.
In other words, I'd like to use Aperture to import photos from my camera and do any editing (which I tend to do on nearly every photo); when I want to view or share photos, I'd like to use iPhoto '11. (Since I do some editing on most of my photos, merely using Aperture as an "external editor" from iPhoto is cumbersome). Is this possible to do? I've tried researching this, but most articles are about moving from iPhoto to Aperture, not back and forth...
My mac mini is an i5 2.3ghz with 8 ghz RAM with a 240 GB SSD. I import and edit a lot of videos using imovies and final cut. a week or so ago final cut x started slowing down a lot and crashing and then imovie started wit hthe same simptons, i've tried reinstalling both, deleting the full .plist and preference files, i tried installing a fresh lion install and then installing just imovie and final cut and the same thing happens. does anyone have any idea of what the problem might be ? the fact that i used a fresh installation of lion and saw the same issues makes me believe it's a hardware issue but nothing else seems to slow down or have problems. Is it maybe the RAM?

I imported a HD film from my Sony HD Handycam at full HD resolution. When I want to export it to iDVD for burning, the only publishing video option is 960 by 540. How do i get it to 1920 by 1080. I want to get HD quality but on a regular DVD disc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFinally I will replace an old white core duo IMAC that we use in our house. Besides the basic stuff like doing kids homework, my main intensive use is to use imovie for family video editing. I have a HD sony camcorder and with my current mac its impossible to work. Now with the new imacs I would like to know what option will be better for those long processes in imovie (importing, exporting, stabilization, etc). better processor: core 2 duo 3.06 or i5 more memory: 4 vs 8 gb better graphics: 4670 vs 4850.

I did this a million times in iMovie '08! What is going on here?
Since i come from a Windows world, the first thing i tried is rebooting...no luck
Why in the world can't I import Quicktime files into iMovie? I'm guessing it has to do with frame rates or something. Or can I and am I just missing something?
If not, is there a file conversion tool anyone could recommend to convert Quicktime or other movie file types? Or do I have to somehow record out to a video to a deck and then import it back in to my iMovie?
I guess I expected iMovie to be something like Premiere. Would Final Cut allow me to do this?
I need a movie editing software that can do quite a bit. I prefer it to be free and am willing to torrent stuff. any recommendations?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter unsuccessfully trying to troubleshoot some problems for my dad from half way round the world I thought I had better ask for some help!
He has a Canon digital camera and a Sony he uses for underwater shots. He imports all of the pics and movies from both cameras into iPhoto, and the movies from both cameras play fine out of iPhoto.
Recently he has decided to start editing them in iMovie 8, and here comes the bit where I'm not 100% sure what he has been doing, but I'll try to explain as best I can. When he first opened iMovie it imported all of the movies out of iPhoto that he had taken with the Canon, but not those from the Sony. If he tries to import them manually then when he finds the file in Finder it is greyed out so he can't select it for import. The files have the extension .mpeg, which I got him to change to mp4 in case it was something as simple as that, but no luck.
Is this something to do with Sony using a proprietary MPEG encoding? I thought that if it playe din one iLife app it would play in any of them, but it seems not!
What does it mean when it says that you can't play a movie because a public atom was found in the file. I find that i have a number of movies that are victim to this. and i know it's happening during the drag and drop import into iTunes because i have the original file and it plays fine from the desktop in quiktime.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOkay, so I am here at work, and have spent the last 4-5 hours trying to resolve this issue, and cannot find any working solutions for it on the internet. We have .3gp recordings. All of a sudden, we started getting this error on some of our computers. Example: I want to play test.3gp; I try to open test.3gp in QuickTime, and I get an error that reads...
"Error -2002: A bad public movie atom was found in the movie:test.3gp" But when I go to play test2.3gp, it plays fine. This issue varies from computer to computer. I get this error on all three of my machines. 2 Windows 7 64bit, and 1 Windows 7 32bit. My colleague and boss can play test.3gp fine through QuickTime on their computers. One is Windows 7 64bit the other is 32bit.
Anyone know some causes of this and hopefully a way to solve it? I tried cleaning up registry errors, running as administrator, updating, reinstalling... Nothing is working.

One plan I have is to make digital backups of some of my old decaying VHS tapes from college and earlier. What is the best route for me to achieve this? I'm thinking that I will probably have to purchase some sort of capture card to get the VHS signal into the machine. I don't suppose the X1900 handles this natively right?

Everytime I open the CD and double clic on the song it imports to my iTunes.
As there are about a 1000 songs on the CD I just want to listen rather than filling up my HD memory. When i put in a normal CD it always ask's if I want to import... But with the CD_ROM already in MP3 format it imports straight away. (iTunes 7 on OSX 10.3.9)

It (sadly) exports in MPEG-2, and I used to convert with StreamClip.
However, I found out that when I choose to 'import from camera', iMovie converts and imports it in.
But the problem is, randomly, iMovie decides not to read my camcorder. I keep unplugging it, restarting iMovie, etc, and maybe once every 20 attempts, it reads and opens a window where I can choose which clips to import.
