View 1 RepliesI recently bought a 27" iMac that came with a small wirelss keyboard (without the number pad) and a magic mouse. Two questions:
1) Is there a way to lock the F keys on? I use InDesign a lot and I hate that I have to keep holding the "fn" key down to select F2 (which I have set up to change to the selection tool) or any other F key I have set up as a shortcut.
2) Is there a way to slow down the scrolling speed of the finger method of scrolling? Most of the time I just want to scroll a little bit, not an entire page. I used to use my mouse's scroll wheel and set the speed to slow.

Are there alternate numeric keys on the Apple wireless keyboard?

I'm working on a MacBook Air (late 2011 model), along with the Apple Wireless keyboard. The keyboard is a physical AZERTY (French) layout, but I change the mapping to US using the system preferences. I work in the Terminal a lot, and I can't find the tilde (~) key. When I type where it would be on a US QWERTY layout, the output is the plus-minus (±) sign. When I type Option+N, I get the tilde accent character (˜). Terminal does not interpret the ~ and ˜characters the same. My question: How can I enter the ~ character from the wireless keyboard? Currently, I reach up to the Air's integrated keyboard and type it there.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm much enjoying my new i7, no dead pixels, no freezing, no screen blinking or other visual problems, etc., but I have a question about the one anomaly I have encountered. The delete key squeaks annoyingly when I hit it half of the time. Is anyone else experiencing this, or have you experienced it with other Macs? Something that goes away as the keyboard breaks in? (I don't want to return it if this will go away or it's something I can address easily on my own but the squeak is pretty annoying.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Apple wireless keyboard. Unfortunately, I am posting this with speech recognition software because it will not actually work.
I was able to pair the keyboard with no problems, and I sent a short email just to try out the feel of the keys. But then I installed the software update. After restarting my computer, the alphanumeric keys on the keyboard will not work. The function keys, modifier keys, and the arrows work fine. It is literally just the numbers, letters, and punctuation keys that are not working.
If anyone is experiencing problems with the function keys on the new aluminum wireless keyboard, I have found a fix. Download and install the Wireless Mouse Software Update from Apple's support page.
Or rather I'll provide you with direct links: 10.5 Leopard: [URL]
10.6 Snow Leopard: [URL]
Download those, restart your computer and WHAM you'll have a bluetooth ultra thin keyboard with functions buttons that actually work. THE ISSUE: For some reason Apple computers recognize the new Aluminum keyboard as the old white keyboard. I discovered this by turning on keyboard viewer and realizing that the keyboard represented on screen had a numpad while mine did not. Supposedly Snow Leopard has an update already which recognizes this, however, we have all found that to be false. Install the mouse update and it'll all work out.
After destroying my last german wireless keyboard i bought a new one with english characters and now the f11 and f12 keys do not work in regulating the volume up and down. I have the Mac OS X v 10.5.8.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have changed both sets of batteries. Turned them off and back on multiple times. Only reason I am able to ask this question is because I'm using my phone. I need my computer back. No I don't have a wired mouse or keyboard laying around. The mouse isn't registering or moving on the screen. The keyboard was working until I tried turning it off and back on. Now nothing is working.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy keyboard stopped working so I went to the apple store to replace it with another one. Now I am back home and the keys at the very top are not working correctly (volumn F12 shows the dashboard, F11 takes the screen up and away, F8 pause button shows spaces, etc.). After the cat spilled a glass of water on my wireless keyboard I had to get a new one. I asked the folks at my local Apple store both over the phone and in person if the 10-key keyboard (non-wireless) they were going to sell me was compatible with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 (I think I'm Leopard) and they assured me it was. When I hit the volume keys, it initially used the assigned function of the F10, F11, and F12 keys (manipulated the windows and dashboard). I removed those key assignments through system preferences but now the volume keys do absolutely nothing. I tried looking for volume controls through the assignments but couldn't even find them to assign the F10, F11 and F12 keys to them.

It looks like the surface of a few keys has been eaten away by acid, I can only imagine it has happened because my fingernails touch the keys through normal typing, but this is completely unavoidable unless I type like a one-fingered man. It mainly seems to happen on the A and S keys, this has happened on my white MacBook, Wireless Aluminium keyboard and Wired Aluminium keyboard, but as they are so expensive to replace I am not willing to buy a whole new keyboard for this. Also, one of my cmd keys has an odd stain on it, possibly from a crumb or droplet of orange juice which I'm sure I would have wiped off immediately, I wouldn't have expected plastic to stain so easily. Has anyone else found this with their Aluminium keyboard?
I suppose there's nothing much I can do to prevent it (I refuse to use a silicone cover), so my option appears to be just to replace those keys damaged through wear and tear however I can. Are the keys interchangeable between these three keyboards? (Wireless / Wired Aluminium, white 2008 MacBook Core2Duo) The main keys look the same apart from the bottom row on the Wired Aluminium keyboard which are a bit wider.
