I have a large number of addresses for my wifes work on a data base file, address list, on Appleworks 6.2.9. Is there a program that would recognize it or I could export it to. I sure dont want to retype all those addresses!

There was a thread on this forum about Bento as an alternative, but I couldn't find a definitive answer. If address book cannot import Appleworks database, can Bento?
In a related matter, I have read of a csv file being used as an intermediate in the process of exporting a database. I can't find a reference to it in Mac Help.
when opening appleworks i get a frozen page and a clock. i tried to reinstall: disks 2 and 3 went ok but disk 1 does not open even using the c key.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard, but the computer has some hardware problems and I need to send it in for repair (it won't wake up or boot). It is entirely backed up with Time Machine, and I would like to transfer the calendar and contact data from it to my PowerBook that is running OS X 10.4.
I managed to export an icbu file (iCal) and abbu (Address Book) file from the MBP, but when I try to add them to the PB's iCal and Address Book, I get an error message. The raw data in the Library folder seem to be in a different format as well. Is there any other way to transfer the data?
Today I tried opening my keynotes presentation file to make amendments to it and when I double clicked on it, the program loading bar only loaded up a third of the way and then hanged. I then tried to save it to a flash drive and use it on a different computer, but when I tried to copy it over to the flash drive it gave me this error: "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "garment styles" could not be read or written error code - 36".
I have tried changing the file extension to a zip, then unzipping it and then renaming it but that did not work.(It wouldn't let me unzip it). I have also looked at the index file name to see if that was the problem, but that is as it should be.
I have also tried uploading it to a website and emailing it and it will not let me.
Is there anyway I can recover this file as I have been working on it for over a month and it is due next week, or will I need to start again?
I have been sent a DVD which contains a file in db format (data base).

I have been working on a project and have a completed picture on my flash drive but when I go to open it, it says cannot open because file is empty. It shows that the size of the file is 96 kb and I can see it with the "quick look" option when you left click. This is using CS3 by the way.

For whatever reason, it won't accept it. When I finish entering the address, the add button is grayed out. If I try other valid addresses, it works fine. For some reason, something about this address won't allow me to add it.
I am interested in developing a database at work (a medical research laboratory), and was wondering if anyone could suggest a decent database program. We currently have the following computers in the lab:
- Power Mac G4 running Jaguar (could upgrade to Tiger if need be)
- Power Mac G5 running Tiger
- Power Mac G5 running Leopard
- Mac Pro Quad Core Intel Xeon running Leopard
It would be extremely useful if the database program could sync databases, such that changes that one user makes on the database is transmitted to the other Macs (if so, we would require a server? Could we just convert one of the macs over to being a server? which one would be best?).
Specifically, if the database could be extremely user friendly, that would be great. Its just for keeping track of what reagents we have, what protocols we have, what cell lines we have, etc. etc.
Did a regular upgrade of Leopard to Snow. Ran Entourage data base utility. Nothing happened. Waited 5 minutes figured that was long enough. If I can't fix a damaged data base, it may not be worth the upgrade. Can't get Office 2008 until late December. Suggestions? Reinstall Office?
View 9 Replies View RelatedA few days ago, ClamXav detected infected files when scanning my mail data base. One of wich was a phishing kind of mesage, and the other was defined as a trojan. It turns out that they were mesages from 2009, by the time when i had a G5 Power PC. I've never open theme, nor clicked the links attached. Now i have a new Mac, but those mails are still in the data base; i think they migrated from my imap account. Any way, i red the ClamXav developper's page and he says that its not advisable to trash out or put this kind of files into quarantine. it bothers me that they still remain in my user's library.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi did a "clean" install of leopard today and have everything back to normal except for my address book address's. i have backup's on my time machine drive, but where would the address file(s) be located on it? simply copying the address book from the applications folder does not do it of course.

I already managed to get my mails delivered but now i'm struggling with the email addresses. I have managed to export these from my hotmail account to Excel for Mac but would like to get them, nicely ordened in Apple's address book so that i can directly use then in MAIL.

If I'm not careful, I end up selecting one of the old, and usually defunct, ones. How can I get rid of these outdated addresses? I've tried left-clicking an address and selecting "Remove address," but that seems to only remove it from the "To" field.

I have AppleWorks on my Mac, and my new line of work (transcription) requires me to receive and send documents in MS Word format; can i just use the 'save as' function to convert the AW doc into a MS Word doc, or are there problems when doing so--such as the text not translating correctly, etc? Wondering if i'll need to buy MS Word for Mac, or if the "Save As" function is enough.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try and print an AppleWorks document, instead of the expected black text it comes out as pale grey.
When I do a print preview it is displayed as black, and when I create a PDF from the appleworks document it prints out perfectly.
When I open a document, it opens but without text and the title is grayed out. After 5-7 seconds, the text and title appear but the beach ball starts going and I can't do anything except force quit.This started after an odd incident yesterday. I was working on a document I'll call A. I've been editing this document for a long time. So the file is named A.cwk. I'm not sure how I closed or saved it, but it did not appear on my desktop as usual.

When I click an icon in my image folders, Preview opens it. How can I change this so that gimp opens the pictures instead? Or perhaps have the option of choosing between several apps like Windows allows?
