I am toying with switching my kids laptops to apple from windows. I bought a Macbook it has OSX 10.5.7. I don't want to have to count on my kids to switch every application to print in Greyscale (black and white). Where do I go to set this so that any printing they do from their account is in black and white by default? This is easy to do in Windows. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do it in OSX. This is shaping up to be a dealbreaker, unless I'm just missing something.
I've been having a pretty annoying problem with my Canon i560: When printing black text, instead of using the black ink, the printer mixes black from the color inks. This has been a problem for a little while but recently, the colors got a little offset so it became really obvious. Also, I just received an update for the Canon printer drivers and according to the Apple page, the Canon i560 is supported and the drivers are actually updated I'm pretty sure that it's a driver problem because I can print from a Windows virtual machine to the exactly same printer all other variables remaining the same - and guess what: When printing from Windows, black is black, colors are colors, as one would expect with this kind of printer.
I have AppleWorks on my Mac, and my new line of work (transcription) requires me to receive and send documents in MS Word format; can i just use the 'save as' function to convert the AW doc into a MS Word doc, or are there problems when doing so--such as the text not translating correctly, etc? Wondering if i'll need to buy MS Word for Mac, or if the "Save As" function is enough.
Is is possible to export a database from Appleworks to a readable sortable file that MS Word or Excel will recognize? I find nothing telling me how to do it ?
When I go to print, there isn't a grayscale option, just black and white. It wastes too much black ink in black and white mode, and there used to be a grayscale option.
Computer: Late 2009 iMac 21.5 Printer: Canon MG3200 OS: 10.9
What is happening to my computer. This is the 2nd time it does this: all of a sudden the screen becomes black with reverse fluo colors.
I have to force quite with the push button & restart it. I repaired the permissions & restarted it. It's working again, but I am wondering if I have an alien in it.
Specs details:
iMac, 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Go 1067 MHz DDR3, running Os X 10.6.8
The printer prints copies in a very light grey colour. I would like it to give a normal black print. It is the driver. If so where do I get an update for the driver. Or what else can it be.
I have an Appleworks database used for customer info. iWorks doesn't have this feature. (Why, oh why?) Is there a way to export the database to address book? I need the sorting power of a database.
There was a thread on this forum about Bento as an alternative, but I couldn't find a definitive answer. If address book cannot import Appleworks database, can Bento?
In a related matter, I have read of a csv file being used as an intermediate in the process of exporting a database. I can't find a reference to it in Mac Help.
When I open a document, it opens but without text and the title is grayed out. After 5-7 seconds, the text and title appear but the beach ball starts going and I can't do anything except force quit. This started after an odd incident yesterday. I was working on a document I'll call A. I've been editing this document for a long time. So the file is named A.cwk. I'm not sure how I closed or saved it, but it did not appear on my desktop as usual.
I have a large number of addresses for my wifes work on a data base file, address list, on Appleworks 6.2.9. Is there a program that would recognize it or I could export it to. I sure dont want to retype all those addresses!
I have a Macbook Pro 2.16 Core Duo, and I'm wanting to install 10.6, but about a year ago, I cracked my screen to the point that I cannot make anything out on it, and haven't replaced it. Instead, I have just been using it in clamshell mode, which has worked out fine so far. My problem is that I cannot get the 10.6 install to show up on my external monitor.
I searched around, and could only find one other similar thread that just ended with the author putting it in clamshell and having it work fine. When I boot to the install and close the screen, I just get a grey box on my external display with a black bar on either side of it. I can't seem to find any other resources, so I'm not entirely sure what to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I was trying to install Windows XP Pro, but for some reason the it wasn't showing another HDD to install Windows on. So I quit the install, and restarted my computer. Now all that happens is the normal grey screen appears (with no Apple logo), then it goes to a black screen and has the blinking cursor (Kinda like DOS).
I don't print much full color and when I do print I'd like to back off of the higher quality printing to save on ink. Does anyone know how to change the default to print a rough draft [and save some ink] rather than printing using a lot of black ink? Also, I cannot print in MS Word. I can print anywhere else, like stickies or whatever. However, my wife [on her account] can print everywhere even in MS Word.
I get an error message saying: Word could not communicate with the printer. There are several possible reasons: *Your printer or its driver may not be set up correctly or there may be a problems with the network connection. You may need to adjust your printer settings. *There may be a bad connection between your computer and printer. Like I said my wife and I share this 27" iMac and she can print fine on her account but I cannot print using MS Word.
I want to update my panther 10.3.9 to the latest machine. I believe that the new macs dont have appleworks on them. I have a large document in apple works and want to add to it. I dont want to lose it. I am not very computer savvy and I hope the people who sell me my new mac can transfer most of my stuff to the new computer otherwise I will lose photos etc.
I have a 2007 MacBook, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS 10.4.11 (which I got free of charge from a friend who didn't like dealing with the "unrecognized" battery).
I would like to know how to unghost the Spell Checker "learn" button, if that is possible. There does not appear to be an option in the preferences.
We had our iMac professionally upgraded to Leopard os 10.5.4. Now our appleworks 6 does not work. These people said appleworks 6 is no longer supported and I must have a damaged file (I think they did it on the upgrade) and to reinstall with disc. Our iMac came ready to use and I do not have any discs so I can reinstall it. I tried searching for it on the internet but could not find anything but updates.
I have several hundreds of documents that were created using ClarisWorks and AppleWorks 5. Lion will not allow Pages to open these documents. Short of opening each one and then saving each one as a Pages doc, what can I do? Is there any batch conversion that will work? DocX Converter will no0t work with ClarisWorks.
All applications quit suddenly when I click on print or press command+P. I tried everything to solve the problem including:
1) Uninstalled and reinstalled printer driver software. 2) Removed and readded the printer in printer setup utility 3) Reinstalled the whole operating system (Tiger) and installed all the updates. 4) Then it occured to me to test the printer using other user accounts in my computer and it works fine on other accounts! So the problem is just in my user account!
I just switched over from the PC, where my favorite program was WordPerfect. Well, that's gone! So, I convert a file in AbiWord and open it in iPages. I produce a very nice letter and print it. Then, I want to print an envelope. In WordPerfect, you go to format > envelope > and an envelope with the addresses is formatted. I couldn't find anything like it in iPages. So, how do you format an envelope in iPages?
