Applications :: Exporting Address Book Into A .csv File?
Dec 3, 2009
I am needing to export some contacts out of address book into a .csv file as I am switching over to an actual mailing list provider. Any ideas how to do that? I downloaded a program called addressbook2csv, but it doesn't work
i did a "clean" install of leopard today and have everything back to normal except for my address book address's. i have backup's on my time machine drive, but where would the address file(s) be located on it? simply copying the address book from the applications folder does not do it of course.
i am a new mac user and am slowly starting to get to grips with everything mymcbook can do. I used to have a hotmail account but now i want to use MAC's MAIL. I already managed to get my mails delivered but now i'm struggling with the email addresses. I have managed to export these from my hotmail account to Excel for Mac but would like to get them, nicely ordened in Apple's address book so that i can directly use then in MAIL.
So i just upgraded my macbook form tiger to snow leopard. I decided to do a clean install as there was plenty on my computer which i didn't want or need. There are two things that if possible i would love to keep and those are my address book contacts and my calendar dates.
I have a Carbon Copy Clone of my computer done just before I upgraded the software on my computer.
So my question is, Is there a way to take a certain file or something and add it to my new address book and calendar rather than imputing all the info again?
My wife is blind and the address book with voiceover is a chore. it is easy to get around but to read the info under a card is a pain. I bought her a itouch for Christmas that will get around it better. but it would be good to have a simple txt or word doc type file on the desktop to look at. over the years she has a txt file with the info I put it all in her address book but the file is faster. but it is a mess too.
Searching in my address book didn't work anymore so I exported the whole address book as an .abbu file and deleted all entries. Now when I try to import that file, it looks for busy for a few minutes and then ends up having no entries. I tried disconnecting from the internet as I read somewhere to avoid interference with iCloud. I also tried creating a new account and import it there so I could change it into vCards, but it wouldn't import there either. It's a 1.3 GB file. I don't have a back-up file or something I can use instead (which wouldn't be up to date) and unfortunately it already synced with my iPhone which has now an empty address book. I also opened the .abbu file and tried to import the .abcdg files but that doesn't work either
I want to create a separate database for my professional contacts using Excel or Filemaker. Right now I have them all in Address Book. If I could just export my database as a tab-delimited text file.
Info: 2008 Macbook Pro 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Address-book doesnt work after update from Snow Lepard to Lion 10.7.3 PB says your address-book is 5.0.3. PB says You have adressbook 10.5.3, yes, but now?
I am not able to import contacts from a .csv file to address book. The import stalls when I press ok and next at about no 4 of 300. For some reason, the import notes I have over 400 contacts when I have about 300.
I am running Address Book 5.0 on Snow Leopard on one machine, and want to share my contacts on another machine running OSX10.4.11, Address Book v4.0.....can this be done?
I just erased my HD and Im reinstalled all my programs. Im now trying to import my contacts to my address book. Before I erased my HD, I made a back up of my contacts by going to file>>>Export>>>Address Book Archive. and it saved it as a .abbu file. Now that its time to restore my contacts, It wont let me. My whole system was saved with time machine, so how do I restore my contacts threw time machine, without restoring everything else?
I am trying to move contact info for a list of clients from an excel spreadsheet to address book. I am using office mad 2008 and regular address book (not Bento or anything) I can't figure out how to do it.
When I added contacts in my address book on my computer I ticked the "company" button... now I want to change ALL my contacts in the address book at once to not be known as "company".... I have 1600 contacts and do not want to do them one at a time!
I installed Entourage and updated it to the latest version, my iPhone synced all my contacts to Address Book but now I can't get my Address Book to sync with Entourage. I used Sync Services and that synced Entourage with iCal but it didn't sync with Address Book. I'm using Leopard and I don't use .mac.
I am am relatively new returnee to Mac--I quit back in the early '90s and am now back. But it is clear that if Mac is to win over corporate users (and that surely is the way to wider use and ultimate victory over the PC) these two basic programs need work.
Some initial thoughts if what I want:
iCal
The display should be able to show part of one month and part of another --i.e. at the moment the last 2 weeks of December and the first 2 of January. Why can't the scroll wheel 'roll' the months up and down?
Address Book
I have something like 900 contacts in my address book, many of them remembered because of where they work, not because of there last name opr specific title or job. Yes, I do know you can check the book to have the company name displayed in the sort list but that's a slow and painful way of doing it--especially if you have 10 or more contacts working for the same firm and you then have to look at each in turn to discov er who you want.
I would like to be alter the display to show 2-lines of choice: say company above and last/first name below or maybe title below. I could then tell who is who without having to search each entry.
Ideally the sort function would be expanded to allow one to sort by, first, company and then, last name.
I'm running Leopard with all the latest updates. I did some googling to see if I could sync my gmail contacts with the OS X address book. I found this link:

Magic, I thought. However the prefs pane in address book on my system does not have Google listed, only Exchange, Yahoo and MobileMe. How do I get it to add Google to the list? Failing that, are there other methods for syncing gmail contacts with address book?
When I send an email Mail autocompletes the address for me giving available options. The options that it gives me are for people in my address book and people that I have sent emails to which are not in my address book. Where does it store the latter? I would like to remove the ones that arent in the address book?
Syncing Address Book with Numbers is what I am trying to do. This is for customers and if I update something in address book I would like numbers to update when I open the file.
I have some contacts in my Address book that won't save any changes I make to them.
For example: Address book shows for a contact name. when I replace it with their real name and de-press the edit button, close out of the application and restart, none of my changes are saved.
At some point in time I must have chosen to group names. I have many customers, for instance, with the last name of Johnson and instead of each person having their own card, they all get grouped together within one card.
This is the error log im getting back from the addressbook server error log. I noticed that the push notification is not working for the addressbook server.
This should be easy, brand new SL install and an existing gmail account. I have the email configured. Have calendar configured and syncing. But contacts, when I set up syncing in Address book, nothing syncs. When I exit Address Book and reenter, the option to sync with Google is no longer checked. I re-enable it and it does the same all over again. When I try the process with another account, it works like a charm. So what does that mean? How can I "fix" the gmail account in question to get it syncing?
Has anyone got Address Book/iSync working with Exchange 2003? I've followed all of Apple's steps to enable Address Book's synchronization with Exchange, and I manually force iSync to sync with Exchange.
I used to get an "iSync couldn't connect to Exchange" error, but after resetting iSync's history, now I get no error message. In my exchange server's log, I do see the entry:
so it's obviously connecting to exchange, but does not populate the address book. It's pissing me off and some blog entry with a workaround at [URL] makes absolutely no sense (and only works on Panther according to the comments.. I'm running OS X Tiger).
Edit: I should also note I've tried the following:
1. Disabled SSL and tried syncing - no dice
2. Tried syncing with my OWA server at work - still no dice
