OS X :: Entourage 2004 Data Base Utility Won't Run In Snow Leopard?

Sep 5, 2009

Did a regular upgrade of Leopard to Snow. Ran Entourage data base utility. Nothing happened. Waited 5 minutes figured that was long enough. If I can't fix a damaged data base, it may not be worth the upgrade. Can't get Office 2008 until late December. Suggestions? Reinstall Office?

I need to convert emails from Apple Mail on a 10.6.8 machine into Entourage 2004.

I read somewhere about pre TIger machines you could import directly via Entourage but not the newer OS's, something to do with eml and mbox?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Eliminate Bad Email Addresses From Auto-completion Data Base?

Apr 29, 2012

When I begin to type the name of someone in the "To" field, I am offered a list of all the addresses they've had—some of them years ago. If I'm not careful, I end up selecting one of the old, and usually defunct, ones. How can I get rid of these outdated addresses? I've tried left-clicking an address and selecting "Remove address," but that seems to only remove it from the "To" field.

Leopard :: SMTP Error With Entourage 2004 On OS 10.5

Apr 3, 2012

I'm running Entourage 2004 on OS 10.5. For the last week we've had an issue with receiving emails. For several days it wouldn't download any, presenting the error "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic." (-3259 )

" Halfway into this, it downloaded the bulk of the emails from the days it hadn't connected, but never finished and gave the same error again. Emails can still be sent fine. It's an AOL email account.

It's set up to receive from an IMAP server as [url]...

It's set up to send from smtp.aol.com, overriding default port with 587, password required.I started to set up a new account with this email, and when it tried to verify the account settings, the IMAP settings verified fine, but the SMTP settings didn't.

Software :: Backing Up Entourage 2004?

Aug 18, 2009

I have a network of about 40-50 Macs running Tiger or Leopard and they are all using Entourage 2004 configured for Exchange.

This means that their mailbox email is backed up on the Exchange Server.

However, in Entourage users can archive email out of their mailbox into an area within Entourage called 'Folders On My Computer'. Once the emails go in there its removed from their mailbox. My concern is that this area of Entourage is on the local hard drive and we don't backup local hard drives. We tell all users that their documents must be on the network fileserver to get backed up nightly.

Does anybody else here look after networked Macs running Entourage with Exchange and have a backup plan for the local Entourage database ?

Software :: Entourage 2004 Versus Mail

Jul 21, 2009

Been using Entourage 2004 since, well, 2004 or so, but have had thoughts about moving over to Apple's Mail application (especially since a Mac repair guy told me that Microsoft is thinking about not supporting it anymore past the next version of Office).

Just wanted to pick people's brains about the pros and cons of each, and which application you prefer. I'm leaning towards Entourage because of the simple functions it has that Mail doesn't seem to (e.g.: next message/previous message arrows within a mail message window, ability to file messages into folders from within a mail message without dragging), but Entourage seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to randomly declaring incoming mail as junk and I've missed a few important e-mails because of that (even though some addresses are in the address book or from safe domains).

OS X :: Migrating From OUTLOOK 2003 To ENTOURAGE 2004

Jul 8, 2007

I am about to purchase my first mac, having been a PC person all my life. Currently I use Outlook 2003 extensively. There are an awful lot of emails, callendar entries etc which I must hold onto and be able to access. This is vital. In migrating to Mac (a move well over due) I am anxious that I can transfere my Outlook files (emails/contacts/callendar etc) into Entourage. I would have though this would be possible using PST files - however some internet research has led me to beleive this might not be the case.

I have searched for this item in the forums here on cnet and someone came up with the following like. [URL] which I cannot seem to get to bring up anything useful. Do I need to be using my Mac to be able to view this page (I find this unlikley). Does anyone know how I can efforlessly transfere from Outlook to Entourage?

Microsoft Word gives me an error "unable to load Microsoft Framework Library". Not sure if this is related.

Have already repaired permissions, run Onyx, EntourAid, etc.

Software :: Recovery Of Sent Mails After Entourage 2004 Corrupt Database?

Oct 6, 2010

MAC OS X 10.4.11; Entourage 2004 11.4.0

Two days ago, all my saved and sent emails (except for the last 2 or 3 days) disappeared. I believe I had a corrupted database. I imported a rge backup file from a week ago and got all my emails in the "Saved" folder (whew), but that backup did not have the "Sent" folder, so I still do not have all my sent emails.

How to I recover my sent emails either from the rge backup file or some other way [VERY IMPORTANT]?

Is there anyway to recover the week's worth of emails I lost, saved and sent, from the backup to the crash [not as important]?

I'll no longer be using Entourage, so I'm just looking to recover these emails, and possibly import them into Thurderbird.

OS X :: Snow Leopard - How To Change Hard Drive Size To Base 2

Aug 28, 2009

I am already aware that Snow Leopard reports hard drive sizes in base 10 and not base 2.

I'm not here to argue about proper use of SI unit prefixes, the HD manufacturer marketing cabal that reports base 10 and not base 2 sizes on the box or the merits of gibibytes vs gigabytes or GiB vs GB.

I'm just asking for a way to change the size reporting back to base 2.

I haven't yet found a way to change it back here in the forums or on Google and only a few others have asked in other threads.

I figured that making a new thread would be helpful for people who just want a solution instead of arguing about base 10 vs base 2 and having to dig through other threads full of that.

Software :: Snow Leopard Calculating Drive Capacity In Base 10?

Something I've noticed lately with Snow Leopard which I had not heard anything about but have been noticing with installing Snow Leopard or using disk utility with Snow Leopard systems. Just a nice little bonus I wasn't originally aware of that 10.6 is seeing drive capacities in decimal now to match the drive manufacturers specs as opposed to calculating in binary like they and Windows had been forever. Did a little digging and found a knowledge base article in regards to the change.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Bug - IPhoto 8.1 Update Breaks Entourage 2008

Sep 9, 2009

The new iPhoto 8.1 update breaks the email functionality to Entourage 2008, if you're using Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. iPhoto 8.1 can no longer successfully email photos to Entourage 2008. It worked just fine with iPhoto 8.0.4, but no longer works with iPhoto 8.1. This is a SNOW LEOPARD PROBLEM... it works just fine under LEOPARD. The steps to reproduce this problem are as follows:

1. Change iPhoto's preferences to use Entourage as your email client.
2. Choose a photo.
3. Click on the "Email" button.

You will get an error message from the Finder that states "Microsoft Entourage got an error. Can't get content of window'". So you are not able to email a photo through Entourage this way anymore. You have to do it manually.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Get To Disk Utility From Install DVD

Apr 2, 2012

My HDD died recently and I cannot get booted into OS X. It just hangs on the grey screen with the apple. I am (was) running 10.6.8

I am having a lot of trouble trying to boot from my install DVD. First of all I purchased a new HDD which came with Lion pre-installed on it. This worked fine, except when I tried to restore my latest time machine back up it used up 200GB of my disk space but nothing is restored? No doucments or music anywhere, photos, nothing. There is no change at all except half my storage has disappeared. I had posted another question on here and the reply said to use setup assistant, which I could not locate in Lion? I then tried to install Snow Leopard back over Lion but it would not let me. I tried to boot to the install disk but it just hung at the apple screen again.

I gave up and bought another brand new HDD but it won't recognise it on boot up. I just get a flashing folder with a ? in it. I tried to boot into the install DVD and again it wouldn't do it.

I then went back to my original HDD, and tried to boot to the install DVD from that (I hadn't tried this first off as my install disk was elsewhere and I purchased the Lion HDD as a stop gap measure) and it STILL wouldn't do it? This is now the original disk with the original install DVD (10.6) issued with my macbook pro when I purchased it and it will not boot to the DVD. Why why why?! It is almost enough to make me bin the lot and switch to windows.

OS X :: Microsoft Entourage Database Utility Not Working

Apr 28, 2010

I am running Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac on a MacBook running OS 10.6.2. I am having a problem with my Entourage database. For a while Entourage would freeze while opening, but then eventually open after a restart. Now it won't open at all, it comes up with a message that say "Entourage cannot access your data. To attempt to fix the problem, rebuild your database." So I click ok and it opens the Database Utility.

But here's the weird part: After a few seconds the Database Utility opens and comes up with a message saying I need to quit all Microsoft programs before it can run. So I do that. I even quit ALL programs except the utility. But it still comes up with another message telling me to quit all Microsoft programs. So in other words, the database utility won't run. What do I do now?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Disk Utility Not Reporting Space Correctly?

Feb 27, 2012

I often add very large files to my system before compressing them, sending them to clients, and then deleting them. This process leaves me constantly thinking about how much disk space I have free. Disk Utility, and an Apple approved app called DaisyDisk (space visualization) typically help me accompish this. Sadly, as of this week I seem to have a problem. When I went and looked the other day Disk U was telling me that 250gb of my 320gb drive is in use. This seemed high to me, but to be safe I thought I'd delete some files I didn't need. After deleting a bunch of videos, and a backup of my Main Identity (19gb) from my system, I'd assumed I had freed up about 24gb, but when I went back into Disk U it was still showing the same 250gb in use. Yes I rebooted my system, and made sure the trash was empty.

As I investigated further I did a get info on all 6 folders on the MacHD and they added up to about 170gb. That seemed more realistic, so I did a get info on my MacHD and again it showed the same thing 170 in use and 148.something available. Note: I have no partitions on this drive. But yet, still when I go to Disk U it seemed to be stuck at only 64gb free. Today when I went and looked again I am still seeing the same amount in use and free on the MacHD get info, but on Disk U now I am seeing 108 free and 211 in use. Why the difference? I would think Get Info was pulling from the same place as the mac disk utility.
