When I send 1 email to 1 recipient from my gmail account on mac mail, the mail activity monitor on the bottom left indicates that I am sending 2, 3 or as many as 5 emails. It takes a long time to send when this happens. It only happens when I send from the gmail account and never from my other accounts. I have no "extra" mail in my sent folder. Is someone else sending email from my computer?

Well I've noticed lately when sending out emails, I select one of my accounts that I use online(specifically craigslist) but when I get a reply, they are going to another inbox from my other(private) account. I don't want this account exposed, especially to the likes of craigslist as that's a big time spam magnet and for potential scammers. What's going on with the Mail application? I checked my settings and all my account information is correct. This has just started happening recently so it must have been an update or something? I checked my "sent" folder and it's showing as the mail has gone out through the right email account but I got a response showing it was sent to my private account.

If I create an email that is saved as a draft while I'm still writing the email, when it finally sends Mail doesn't delete the email from the drafts folder.
I only use MobileMe in Mail, so I'm not sure if this is a problem with MobileMe or with Mail. It happens periodically on both my MacBook and iMac.
For the past four days I haven't been receiving any emails from my Gmail account in Mail on my MBP. I am however receiving them on my iPhone 4 and I am getting emails from another account in Mail on my MBP.
On the left-hand side, where the mailboxes are listed, it's permanently displaying the spinning wheel next to Gmail. I am running the latest version of Mail, 4.3, which came with the latest OSX update. I haven't activated the Priority Inbox Google introduced to Gmail.
This is a problem I am having with Thunderbird and Mail. For some reason I just do not get mails ontime
For example, if I get an email from say Youtube, it won't appear in my Mail.app inbox AT ALL. But if I go to Gmail I will see it in there. This happens for about 3/10 emails, so at the moment it's not the majority, but it is certainly annoying
Secondly Thunderbird just doesn't want to connect to my Gmail at all, not too sure why, and I have done step by step instructions, but Thunderbird refuses to get any mail at all. but really and truely I'd rather have the Mail.app working properly
i like using the MAIL app but i have one problem.
When iam viewing my emails in Mail, and i delete a email in the Mail app,how come it doesn't get deleted in my gmail account?
I am trying to use Mac mail.app for my Gmail account, a paid account holding about 10GB of mail. I have no trouble setting up the account in mail.app, but I gather IMAP set ups store all the Inbox locally? Certainly set up of the gmail account in mail consumes over 10G of my precious MBP HD space.
So, is it possible to set up Mac mail with webmail so it that it more or less acts as a UI for the webmail account? I know I could easily use an app like Mailplane (nice but constantly crashes for me) or just a browser, but I am frustrated by the fact that OSX defaults to mail when an email link is clicked (maybe there is a fix for this) and I do like drag and drop file attaching, as well as the integration with iPhone, mobileme etc.
I configured two accounts in mail. One account is a send & receive account. The other is only meant to send mails. Both are pop/smtp. How can I configure a default sending account?

I'm using mail.app with 5 different accounts at work. Different accounts are supposed to be for different groups of receivers. When sending mails I unfortunately tend forget to check if the right sending address (account) is chosen. Mail automatically chooses the one from which the last mail was send. And so it ends up that people receive mails from the wrong address and are getting confused by that.
I have 2 (Apple Mail and Entourage) clients storing 3 months of emails each and I want to merge them into Gmail. The messages no longer exist on the web-based servers and I heard IMAP might be in handy for transfering the messages to an online acct then transfering to gmail.
Any idea of how to do this with Entourage or Apple Mail?
BTW, they're both from the same email address, I just changed providors (hosting/email) during the 6 month period.
Apple mail out of office rule is sending auto replies to all emails not just newly received emails--HELP! I set up the rule according to another apple support thread and instead of only sending the reply to new mail received, it was sent to all messages I believe that were in my INBOX, I only had a few but several people that hadn't sent me emails since I set up the rule, received the OUT OF OFFICE reply.Here is the procedure I followed for the out of office rule-[URL]I just used my email account which is a business account- not an ECU account but these rules according to the apple thread apply for all emails.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got limited hard drive space. In gmail, I keep my inbox pared down to just a few emails I'm actively working on (ie 3-10 emails at a time). Everything else gets archived. However, when I try to set up Mac Mail for gmail (as described on 50 different websites), my computer starts downloading thousands of emails - my sent mail, anything I've tagged, etc. I don't want all this. I just want the few active emails (my inbox) at any one time.
I've tried mapping folders in Mail (ie Use this folder for....), but can't seem to pare it down to just the inbox.
Is there a way to use one gmail account and retrieve that mail using different macs using mail? My buddy and I are setting up an account for our business and we want to be able to retrieve mail using the same gmail account. He will be using his mac from his place and I will be using my mac from my place.We want to be able to access the same account using our individual macs.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI had a hotmail account and about a month ago apple mail deleted all my messages from the hotmail account, therefore I am unable to access any of them from anywhere else except my mac.
I learned that that was due to me leaving the box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message." Now I fixed that and moved to gmail, as I was able to upload all hotmail messages to my gmail account through tuhunderbird.
Since I am not a big fan of Thunderbird as it is giving me some password issues, today I set up the gmail imap (I think) accunt on my apple mail, but there is no box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" for gmail in prefrences, just for hotmail.
Now I am scared, will apple mail delete all my messages from the gmail server, and if it will, how do I prevent it from doing so?
Mail will NOT let me select IMAP and will go to POP automatically for my gmail acct. I have the POP disabled in gmail and IMAP enabled. Why is this so difficult Is there a way to have the option to select the type of account I want as it is not giving me one like it is supposed to.

I tried trashing the prefs and that helped for a few days, but it keeps coming back. I also setup and tested my mail account on another machine and that machine never gets doubles.

I was playing around with Mail and trying out POP3 with hotmail. I discovered that mail downloaded ALL my emails from the last 5 years and deleted it from my hotmail webaccount. So, I tried to find the settings to prevent Mail from downloading and deleting email but couldn't. So I proceeded to delete the account from Mail. To my horror, I found that I've lost all my emails as well!!!
Is there a way to retrieve my emails? Now I can't even find the pop3 setting for free hotmail.
I went to send a message from my apple mail (gmail account) and it won't send. Says smtp.gmail.com is offline. I didn't change any settings but when I went in to check them, they were all gone. I added back smtp.gmail.com under description and my complete email address under server name. I then went to advanced settings and made sure the Use default ports (25, 465, 587) was checked and also Use Secure Sockets Layer was checked. I chose Password for authentication and added my complete email address for user name with my password. It still says I'm offline and won't sent a message.

I am using Apple Mail with three Pop3 accounts and I am receiving duplicate emails in one of the three accounts. Each account has a separate email. The account that I am receiving duplicate emails was set up last night. I am leaving the emails on the server, if that has any bearing. I am running OS 10.6.2.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been working quite happily with Mail and an imap gmail account for a couple of years until recently. Now I can no longer send attachments and if I try to forward an email that has a bit going on in it like a group-on email or something similar it won't send that either. I get a message Cannot send message using the server [URL]:(my emailaddress)[URL]Sending the message content to the server failed I have searched for answers all over the net, have tried google help pages that suggest I remove my email address from the outgoing server details but NOTHING works. Today I finally gave up on Apple Mail and tried entourage - same result in that I couldn't send anything with attachements but a different error message.Â
I hadn't changed anything when it stopped working and it can't be the settings because every now and then I get an attachment through. There is lots on the net but I haven't found anything that works or all the stuff I am reading is really old. and also, just to finally drive me over the edge I got sent an email with an attachment today that didn't come through onto my mac. If I go onto gmail via safari there is my attachment. In Mail, it doesn't even give me a hint that it's there

I have been sending duplicate emails inadvertently recently. It seems it's when I use mBox for mac (registered copy) in Mail to use my Hotmail with IMAP. I hadn't noticed it at first, but now I see every time I send a mail I get 2 copies in my sent box. I can turn off the store sent messages on server option to fix it (but that's the whole point of having IMAP!). Or I can turn off mBox for mac and it also seems to work (but then I can't use IMAP!).
I've also tried on the same machine from gmail, and iCloud accounts (MobileMe), and I had no issue at all. I've also tried 2 different Hotmail accounts, and both of them send double messages every time I send. I think anyone still using a hotmail account will eventually install something like mBox for mac if they've gone Mac recently - as I have. I checked the mail headers of the 2 mails, and they are quite different (masked where appropriate) -

I had mistakenly moved my gmail to mail.app - mistake was that I completely cleaned-out my entire Gmail account! I fixed Gmail so that it copies the emails as they go to mail.app, leaving it also in Gmail.
Now I want to restore the 3,000 emails I had cleared out of Gmail BACK into Gmail...can I do this?
Can I move them somehow from mail.app back into Gmail with one sweep, just as I had moved them all into mail.app from Gmail? Or am I skrw'd and have to move them individually by forwarding?
