i am trying to make a compilation in itunes as a christmas present..i was hoping to create a whole new "album". but every time i try it either 1. puts the songs in alphabetical order 2. changes the original album file. Is there a program out there i can use to create a digital compilation? I have a hankering to make a mixed tape - but somehow do it in the digital age.

I am using the software for legitimate, legal purposes, in case you were wondering.
When I have a compilation album, I like to keep it all as one album in iTunes and especially on my iPod. Traditionally I would copy the artist name into the song name, so it was "Artist - Song" and then change the artist name to the name of the compilation. That way, on my Ipod, I would scroll through artists, get to the compilation and play it all from there, meaning I wouldn't have a whole load of new artists, each with one song.
However, I just got a 6 CD compilation album.. 150 or so tracks. I don't want to individually rename every song this time, but I want it all to be under one Artist in iTunes (preferably). Is there any way to maybe select all of them and switch the artist for the album artist? Or is there another way to do all this that would allow me to have it all appear as one artist, but not have to rename each track individually?
Is there anyway I can keep the tracks in a compilation album (typically, 'The Very Best Most Relaxing Classical Album Ever, Ever Ever!) in on place? It's almost as if iTunes picks out the individual artist and treats each one as if it's an album. This is a PITA becaus I have had to append artwork to each track to identify it on the pod.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFor some reason iTunes messes up my complaitions if I sort the albums by anything else than "album", such as year. It "breaks" the compilations up (you know what I mean) even if the year is the same. The weird thing is that some (up to 3 I've seen) tracks keep in bundles (even despite having different artists). Also, if the album stays "intact" by some wonder when I sort by year, the track order usually becomes totally random... (14, 4, 2, 13, 3, etc).
Yes, they are marked as compilations. Yes, album artist is the same (blank field). No, there are no typos.
As a disclaimer, I'm on a Windows machine. Can anyone tell me how to set the "sort by year" a default? It's pain to re-set it every time I launch iTunes.
I'm deleting all of my files from itunes to start fresh since right now it is unorganized, the problem with this is that when I first installed itunes it searched my hard drive and added sounds that I don't know where they came from, in fact some of them look like from the operating system, so I'm afraid to delete something that a program or the actual OS needs (since I don't know if these are just copies or are the originals). Is there a way to know if the original of a certain file exists? In other words I need to know if what I have in iTunes is a copy or the only file in the hard drive (original) and if it is a copy I would like to know where it came from or somehow find the original.

I've looked at some other posts that have gone over how to move files to an external drive, and they all say to use command while moving. I understand this copies the file and deletes the original, but when you make a copy and delete the original, you lose some of the original data, such as creation date, etc... This makes storage and organization more complicated than it has to be.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to submit track names of a compilation CD with multiple artists (all different) to the CDDB database via itunes. However, when I choose "submit CD track names" under Advanced, it asks for a single artists name for the whole compilation. I've tried leaving this field blank but it comes up with the message: "This CD needs an artist name in order to submit this information". I don't want to add an artist name as the tracks are all by different artists. I've tried ticking and un-ticking the Part of a Compilation box (in the window that pops up to send cd track names and in the Get Info window for each track) but the same message appears each time. Is there any solution to this frustrating problem?
Its a commercial CD our company has had made (world music) and one that we will be selling copies of. I'm worried that if I put Various Artists it will change the original artist fields (which we want to keep) to "Various Artists" which isn't what we want.
I was wondering if it is possible to record with either photobooth or iMovie running in the background without getting the clip cut.
when you minimize photobooth the isight stops recording untill you open the app again.

Allow me to explain exactly what I am trying to do: For those who don't know, there is a trend on YouTube where people post vids of themselves playing video games. These are (usually) called "Let's Plays" and I have recently gotten sucked into it. I'm currently trying to record a "Let's Play" of a PSP game. There is a way to output a PSP display to your PC using a homebrew app called RemoteJoyLite. Sadly the app is Windows only and it doesn't look like it will get ported anytime soon (I've looked into doing a port myself as the source code is out there, but it uses DX calls throughout and not sure how to convert them to OpenGL calls). I have recently gotten it to work in a VM (running Win7 x86) though.....................

Thinking it was operator error I took a look and the actual mp3 files have been shortened somehow. I haven't checked all the tunes, but have checked a good many and a LOT of them are corrupt. How could this happen??? Itunes is playing the tunes correctly, it's the file itself that has been shortened.

If I view my porn (just be honest) on an external USB drive or some other external drive that goes through my USB port, is there any record of it after I'm done on my computer? I just want a clean computer these days because I'm not 18 anymore when it didn't matter. I don't want porn on it and assume it will not show up if I view it and then remove the USB drive? Ive noticed that a couple of websites that have only .wmv available to download movies. I am running a Mac G4 with OS Tiger and Opera/Safari/Firefox for the net. I can easily play wmv's with my QTpro and or VLC.
The movies that I typically DL are usually 300 to 400 megs. They completely DL on my browser (Opera, Safari, or Firefox) after about 10 minutes or so. However once I DL the .wmv files onto my harddrive , they show up at only about 3 or 4 kb!!?? So thats about a total of like .2 seconds of play back!!?? Therefore one second of total playback.I believe this is not an Apple vs Windows issue, but something else. Any ideas?
My hard disk is a Raid system. 4x3TB = total 12TB but 3 TB is for backup. So in effect usage space is 9TB. But now used up 7TB (called it original harddisk) I took my iMac to a shop and it dis some verify and tried to repair the disk using Disk Utility. But it cannot repair. Apparently, he said that my hard disk is okay but it has a directory corrupt problem. That is why now my FCPX cannot read all the data. All my media files for FCPX are stored in this 9TB external hard disk. So, I was told the steps to do are:
1) copy all these 7TB data from Original hard disk into a new hard disk (called it haddisk B).
2) Then reformat the old 9TB hard disk (which we earlier called as original hard disk).
3) Then I copy back from hard disk B into Original Harddisk 9TB Question is will FCPX be able to recognise again my media files from the Original hard disk in

I used to have all my data on my MacBook and since I bought the Air I started transferring everything to it. Everything was fine until I tried to hook my iphone on the usb and sync it. The iphone drops the connection with the itunes and the whole syncing progress cancels. I've tried every possible advice I found in other forums but nothing worked. I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, I tried installing earlier version of itunes, I restored my iphone (on my other mac), I manually deleted some itunes program files before reinstalling the new itunes....nothing nothing nothing. I keep getting error messages like:
"ITunes could not connect to the iphone because the pairing record is missing"
"Application AppleMobileDeviceHelper quit unexpectedly"
"ITunes could not connect to iphone because an invalid response was received from the device"
And every time i try to restore iphone from the air i get an error(6).....
While everything works great on the old Macbook, the Macbook Air seems to have problems connecting with the phone. The funny thing is that even if the connection between iphone and itunes drops, I can still manage to "see" the iphone from "iphoto" and import pics on my Air. I really don't know what's going on here and there seems to be no one that knows what I should do. Furthermore, when i plug my scanner on the air, it doesn't respond at all. It's as if the usb slot ain't powerful enough to connect with those devices. The scanner also works great on my old Macbook.
Is it my Mac or Safari that is the problem? Every website comes up so slowly now on Safari. I have emptied the cache. My husband is working next to me on his PC and his sites come up instantly, so its not our internet connection.
