I was wondering if it is possible to record with either photobooth or iMovie running in the background without getting the clip cut.
when you minimize photobooth the isight stops recording untill you open the app again.
Is there ANY way i can keep recording without having the app opened up all the time?
Or is there some kind of windows hider or something to get around this?
I know you can use iSight as a camera to record in iMovie or Photo Booth...but is it possible to record a video chat? So say me and my bro are chatting, can iSight record that chat, so I would be able to see both me in a little box, and my bro in the main portion of the screen? Or would I need more of a screen capture program for that?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAllow me to explain exactly what I am trying to do: For those who don't know, there is a trend on YouTube where people post vids of themselves playing video games. These are (usually) called "Let's Plays" and I have recently gotten sucked into it. I'm currently trying to record a "Let's Play" of a PSP game. There is a way to output a PSP display to your PC using a homebrew app called RemoteJoyLite. Sadly the app is Windows only and it doesn't look like it will get ported anytime soon (I've looked into doing a port myself as the source code is out there, but it uses DX calls throughout and not sure how to convert them to OpenGL calls). I have recently gotten it to work in a VM (running Win7 x86) though.....................

I have a Blackbook, it's about 3 years old now and the fan speed has increased to a very high level. There aren't any programs running in the background, this just simply happens when I leave the computer on. I'm assuming it's because there is dust buildup on the internal parts, but it's odd that it progressed from being fine to the stat that it is in today in the matter of days. Is there a way to clean the inside? Apple technician to have a look at it?

Anyway, my main issue is, when I opened Activity Monitor, I realized that VMF 3.0 runs in the background when the computer start, is there anyway to totally shut it off if I am not using it?
Also, on the top right tool bar, there is a "bi-head" arrow of VMF 3.0, how to get rid of it?
Mail is running in the background, but it won't quit or open. I need to reboot (i.e. hold down start for 10 seconds) to restart. Other applications are also very slow to respond during this, incl. Safari. I'm on a Late 2007 Macbook running 10.6.2, which I updated yesterday.

I have a simple question, I know on windows when you have many things running at one time it tends to bog and slow down. Running things in the background are the issues I am getting at. View 4 Replies View RelatedI was watching YouTube on my Mac book Air. I paused it and closed the laptop. When I opened it and tried to turn it on, it shows a blank screen. But when I press esc, I can barely see a very very very faint login page with the box asking for my password. When I type my password, it logs in and I can play the YouTube and hear everything and all. But my screen is just black. My keyboard lights doesn't light up either. I've tried everything.

The problem I have is, that when i open iTunes, nothing happens. I can see it's running in the Task Manager, but I can't get it to open.
I cant figure out how to change the background color of it in candybar. I'm sick of the standard grey mac color.When I'm in candybar I go to the dock section-->view-->dock-->preview background..the options under preview background are greyed out. Also when I am in the dock section-->view-->background-->change color. I try changing the color but it doesn't change. Am I doing something wrong..or what?

However, when I changed my background via command in the terminal by switching the defaultdesktop.jpg with another picture in the CoreServices folder, My picture does not show up on the login screen instead it is just a plain blue screen. Is there anyway to restore the original login background settings?because I actually found a program "loginox" that easily changes the login picture however, it will not open because it says I have changed the original background photo.

If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen.
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc drive

My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

My daughters have tasked me with transferring the childhood VHS memories to DVDs for future fun. I have a G4 PPC 733MHz with 640MB RAM and 256KB L2 Cache. What would be the best thing to upgrade to speed up this process, the RAM, the Cache, both?
Also, since I'm shopping for a DVD burner to use with this, I'm assuming I'd want Firewire? And what speed should I look for-- 18X?
The last 1hr tape took about 12 hours to record, render, and burn, so I'm hoping there's a faster way.

My Mac feels as if it is running slower these last couple of months. I have thought of pursuing a commercially available "clean up" product, but thought I would try the community first and also for pointers using the Mac's own internal diagnostics or system improvement capabilities. Any and all advice is most welcome. I have a 250GB hard drive that is half full, I always update to latest revisions and have an extra high-speed internet connection. Computer is not heavily loaded with apps and typically using Firefox for browsing. (MS Office for Mac as well, but usually limited to one program such as MS Word or Excel at a time.) No heavy graphics utilization. Videos from the internet load slowly and some are choppy. Even scrolling just doesn't seem "brisk".
