OS X :: Viewing Files On USB Or Other External Drive - No Record?
Jun 27, 2009
If I view my porn (just be honest) on an external USB drive or some other external drive that goes through my USB port, is there any record of it after I'm done on my computer? I just want a clean computer these days because I'm not 18 anymore when it didn't matter. I don't want porn on it and assume it will not show up if I view it and then remove the USB drive? In contrast to when you view websites and it stores that stuff.

I have added a new Mac Book Pro to the house hold. We currently have one iTunes account that we all use that is located on an external hard drive. What I'm trying to figue out is how to see my iTunes on the new Mac without downloading all the files on to the hard drive as there is 2TB worth of information it wouldn't fit anyway? I have logged into my account and routed iTunes to the external using preferances but I can't see or figure out how to get all of the Albums (Music, Movie, Tv shows, ect.) with out downloading it?

I just switched to Mac and love it. I am curious, however, about viewing pdf files in firefox instead of opening them in preview. I really liked doing this on windows with Adobe reader, and I am curious if there is a way for Preview to display pdfs in the browser as well?
If not, is adobe reader worth installing? Or is opening Preview as a separate window with the pdf still faster than the adobe reader plugin?

In the last couple days, I think since I installed the last upgrade in the OS, my QT is 'unable to complete the process' of opening wmv files. Months ago, I think after I upgraded to Lion, QT stopped allowing me to view avi files. The file opens, and I can scroll through the content, but to 'play' button doesn't work. I can still view those files using DivX Player 8.2.2. These are all files that used to work just fine with QT. Is there anything I can do to restore this functionality to QT?

On Snow Leopard, since 10.6 and still in 10.6.1, I've noticed too high CPU overload after I open folder which contains even one flash video (flv file - downloaded from web using firefox addon DownloadHelper). The name of process which does the overload is: QTKitServer-(243) Quick Look Helper.
This process uses almost 100% of CPU, makes it hot and often leads to black screen, when is not possible see anything, except: I can see mouse cursor, make keyboard commands but due the black screen the only solution is to turn off my MacBook 13" - alu, late 2008. If I am lucky and close Finder window very quickly, this process disappears and overload is gone. Does anybody else have same/similar problem?

So at my office we move from logic (obviously mac based workstation) to a PC workstation to upload audio files.
We've encountered a growing issue which is the hidden .DS and ._* files.
These files are hidden in every folder on mac but when we move a folder with say 100 audio files bounced from logic to a PC every audio file has a ._ alias and each folder has a .DS alias.
Right now the only way we can fix it is manually removing all the hidden files on the PC. We have tried a Terminal script that removes the ._ files but they seem to just recreate themselves.

If I have a bunch of files and I want to see the combined size of these files, on windows I would simply mark each file, right click one of them and hit properties. If I do that on my new mac mini and then hit More Info or whatever it says, then it just opens the info window for each file - it doesn't give me one where it says the combined amount of files, size and such. Is it possible to do this somehow?

I have a 17" Macbook Pro from Jan 2012 and I can't get an external microphone to work. Initially I tried a cheap Sony microphone with no luck. So purchased logitech headphones. They have 2 jacks, one headphones, one microphone. I've tried it with Word for Mac and Quicktime (selecting line-in)

I am having problems viewing many PDF files (not all) which display a completely black document, always condensed to one page. I'm suspicious of recent Adobe changes, but have no handle on how to proceed.Â

Which MacBook Pro screen size would you choose for the following?
- Viewing 6 or more hours daily, not hooked up to external display.
- Will be my main computer.
- Used for work and entertainment, heavy emailing, use of iWorks software, light photo and video editing, surfing, no gaming.
- Will go with me nearly everywhere, home, office, cottage, travel. Used on desk, heavily on couch, deck, kitchen, bed, cafe.
- Price not a factor.
13, 15, or 17" screen, please vote in the Poll.

The difference is, that opposed to him, I am in fact using Garage Band to create a podcast. I am also using an external mic. And even though the external mic gets recognized by my ibook G4, it is for some reason not allowed to record. (Yes, my ibook recognizes it, however, the ibook won't pick up any minor sound with the external microphone. A person at a small recording studio here in my city made me realize this, as I thought the problem was other).
P.S. By the way, I had already tried two options and neither one worked out. For option number one, I used as preamp a product called iMic, in addition to the external microphone and the ibook G4. For option number two, I used the same products mentioned in option number one, plus an additional pre amp. The "success" was the same as before: recognition by the ibook G4, with the problem that one can not record into the ibook.

I'm new to Mac.
I copied some directories/files from my PC to a LaCie external drive. I then copied them from the drive to the iMac.
I tried to delete, e.g., drag to Trash, them from the external drive while connected to the iMac. It didn't work. I tried a mouse right click, but no delete on Menu. Is there a way to delete files on the iMac? I ended up connecting the drive to the PC, & deleting the files, but I'd like to be able to do the same from the iMac.

I no longer have acces to a pc and outlook, I only have the pst files. Does any one know how I can get these to work on the apple/mac mail? Is there a trial version of "Office 2008 for Mac"?

My built-in external mic doesn't record any audio when recording at all with the webcam. I've seen that this problem happens a lot in iMovie and Photo Booth, but my problem is a little unique, in that it doesn't record audio when recording with any program, not just Photo Booth and iMovie. I've tried QuickTime and even YouTube's webcam capture option, to no avail.Â
However, the most puzzling aspect of this is that I know for a fact that the built in external mic is functional, because I can make video calls from Skype without any problems.

My friend wanted some files to be transferred to his external hard drive from my Mac. As he is a Windows user, I guess his hard drive is formatted for Windows as well. As I plug in the hard disk in my Mac, I can't transfer the files. It says something like "the disk cannot be modified". So, please help me on how can I transfer this files from my Mac and if I do format it to work with the Mac, will it work for Windows later?

I pretty much made the switch to all MAC a few months ago. I have a few external drives that i use with Media players and they prefer and work better when formatted to NTFS problem is, MACs can only read and write to FAT32. I have Windows 7 on my macbook ( though my movie collection is on my iMac ) via bootcamp, so that isn't a option. I heard and read about some programs and what not.. but what is the fastest and easiest way to transfer files from my iMac to a NTFS formatted HD? I have movies ( some over 4gb in size ) on my iMac.

Mac OS X can't repair the disk - You can still open or copy files on the disk but you can't save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can and in Disk Utility:
Quote:
Disk Utility cant repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
so i attempted to back up my files off the drive, but all the files seemed to be corrupt or something, so i panicked and ran diskwarrior instead of going back to ipartition and attempting to recover the drive in there. DiskWarrior sort of "fixed" the problem by making the error messages go away in OSX and in Disk Utility, but the files on the drive still seem to be corrupt giving me such errors as:
The disk is currently partitioned as Mac OS Extended, but maybe i could run it though some recovery programs via bootcamp/macdrive or maybe even in some sort of linux live cd?
