View 6 RepliesSo I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.
My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?
Just want to be sure before I set this up.
The software I am having the Drag and Drop issue with is Final Cut X and it began aabout a week ago...
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy family bought a mid-2010 iMac 21.5". Being our 1st Mac, we're still learning it. My son has "toyed" with Garage band a few times. My wife wants to learn iPhoto but hasn't found the spare time. But will soon - once our disabled kid goes back to school. Have't tried iMove yet. Don't think we will...ith above in mind, is the upgrade to iLife 11 (for upgrades to iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband) worth it? Is the updates in iPhoto and Garageband with the $50 cost? Or, is using current version (that came with my iMac) "good enough" for our usage?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a refurbished 2.66 Ghz Imac with a decidated graphics card (ATI) rather than get the newer 2.66Ghz version (early 2009) with the Nvidia intergrated card. Since I did that...the refurbished computer comes with Ilife 08 and I have ILife 09 installed on my old computer which I cloned to an external drive so that I can migrate my info over to the new one. I had bought the Mac Box set (Leopard, Ilife 09, Iwork 09) a while back and and can't find the Ilife 09 disc. Is it possible for me to migrate Ilife 09 over to my new refurbished computer that has the old Ilife 08 on it? or do I ave to buy Ilife 09 again?

I have bought a new copy of snow leopard but I am wondering if theres a way of installing just the iLife apps from the MBP disks onto my IMac?

Wiped the Drive and reinstalled from an OS X 10.7.3 from an Installer I had DL from the Mac App Store. Opened the Mac App Store and had to buy iPhoto, the only App the customer uses from the iLife Suite.
The USB "Software Reinstall Drive" that came with my MacBook Air, has iLife on it. The "Software Reinstall Drive" is recognised by my iMac and I can open it. However, when I try to run the iLife installer it says that it cannot install on this computer. Does anyone have any ideas or do you think that it is irrevocably fixed to the MacBook Air?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am considering purhcasing iLife 09 to upgrade from iLife 08 that came pre-installed on my early-2008 MacBook Pro, as I like the new iPhoto features, (the iLife app I use most frequently out of the entire bundle), but I was wondering if by doing so there is a chance I may lose any files.
For those that did the same 08 to 09 upgrade, did you lose an individual photos from your library, albums altogether, events, slideshows, etc.?
For those that didn't lose them directly in iLife/iPhoto, what about on the HDD itself, and vice versa?
long time reader, first time poster. I know this topic has been beaten to death - but I've read all the post and have not found an answer for my question.
If you have iLife 08 installed and just installed a new copy of iLife 09 - does the following happen?
1. iLife 08 gets removed.
2. All Data from iPhoto 08, iMovie 08, iDVD etc, gets transferred to the new application.
3. No Importing is required to move any of the data over the new version of the software. It just works as if you didn't even have iLife 08 in the first place.
So i have iLife '08 installed and i'm about to install iLife '09. Do i need to uninstall iLife '08 first to install iLife '09?

Do you first have to uninstall 09 and then install 11 or can you do an in place upgrade? By this I mean, can you simply install iLife 11 over top of iLife 09?
I did a spotlight launch of imovie and i clicked on it, and imovie 08 is still in my system. Would it be safe to delete the imovie 08/ idvd 08/garage band 08 so it does not interfer with 09. I just dont wanna loose any of my info, i just dont want both on the system, getting confused with them opening up.

I've just checked my Software Update and found the ilife 09 update, and I don't have ilife 09, I only have ilife 08.
So I bought Leopard family-pack and installed on 4 Macs (and de-installed one). All installs were "clean installs". And all yielded Leopard WITHOUT iLife products (iPhoto, iTunes, etc.).
Now people tell me that they also did "clean installs" and iLife was present afterwards.
The only difference I can judge is that I used a family pack whilst the others used a "single licence" pack.
Can anyone provide some light into this?
I hope you don't mind helping a guy out in his choice in what he truly needs... so I guess I'll get down to the basics.
First off, music is my main priority when it comes to computing, I write all sorts of electronic music, I'm used to working in Windows under Ableton or FL Studio, so I'm not hip to the Mac software for these functions.
In addition to the electronic music I write, I'm also very much into music instruments, I've been playing drums for around 8 years now, bass for 5 years, guitar even... so I plan on multi-track recording... up to 16, maybe even 32?I do plan on opening up my own home studio, I would be using this PC, (not sure if the MBP or the iMac)
I'm also a lightweight gamer, playing games such as Team Fortress 2, World of Warcraft, or StarCraft II (Diablo 3 will probably be my biggest gaming vice when it comes out) sparingly in my free time, which would be better for this sort of light gaming?I sometimes spend up to 8 hours on the computer, also, so if these screens are too harsh on the eyes after extended periods of time, I'd appreciate if someone could enlighten me to that.
SO, with all that said, which do you guys think would suit me better? (and I'm really thinking the iMac would)... I used to want portability, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable taking a $2,000 laptop with me around campus at the local community college.
- Needs to be able to record up to 32 tracks of audio
- Needs to be able to render high quality tracks
- Minimal latency
- Able to run some of the less graphic intensive games out now
- Easy on the eyes for extended periods of time
Oh, I'm also an amateur filmmaker, I love filming, editing, and producing, etc.Would you guys suggest the i5? i7? Oh, and what clock speed does the 2.93GHz i7 run at when in turbo-boost using all cores?Oh, and what's the resale value of the iMac compared to the MBP? View 4 Replies View RelatedI use grab quite a lot on my ibook g4, but to get to it i have to open up preview and go through file>grab which is annoying. I would do it through the application menu by going Safari>Services>Grab but on all the programs, this option is greyed out and i can't access grab through that menu.
View 11 Replies View RelatedSystem Spec: Late 09 21" 3.06, GeForce 9400, 4gb ramCurrently I have itunes and safari running, if i enable the visualizer my imac is noticeably slower, especially when browsing the internet.I thought it might be the fact I was running a second 1080p display from the 9400 would have caused the slow down. But the same thing occurred after i disconnected it. After repairing permissions and restarting, pmram etc.Is the 9400 causing the slowdown? I know its fairly old but itunes visualizer and safari should be quite basic tasks. Its not the end of the world i know but does the 27" imac have similar issues as i plan to upgrade my machine in 2011.
I had a DLink DIR-655 Wireless N router and my wireless was running very fast, 9.7MB using [URL] with no lag looking up sites. I had to upgrade the router since I was hosting a site and the router wasn't working properly for that.
So, I bought a Linksys WRT610N Dual Band router. I have the iMac running on the 5GHz band and it runs around the same speed.
HOWEVER, when I open Safari or Firefox, in the status bar, it says "looking up google.ca..." or whatever site I'm browsing for and can take up to 5-10 seconds before it starts to display the site. When it is on the site, browsing around is fast as long as it doesn't change domains.
ANOTHER HITCH, I have VMWare's Fusion installed on the iMac and Vista installed there and there is no lag to browsing a site. When I type in the site, it immediately goes to the site and I am able to browse fine.
Any thoughts on this?
The Mini Has Some Great Software On it, Could i Use Migration Assistant To Transfer The Programs To My iMac Without Losing My Data On My iMac? Or is There Any Other Way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI think it worked at one point, but sometime around the point when I set up Fusion with the partition, Windows Aero turned off and is no longer an option in the display settings. I installed this driver with the modded INF to see if it would do anything, but Aero is still not an option. I also have issues playing some games in Fusion, while they work fine in Boot Camp.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI sent an email to Steve Jobs about my yellow tint 21.5 iMac issues (three exchanges, all affected, resulting in a refund). I got a call from Dena at Executive Care within 24 hours.
She said they are aware of the problem and do not know how widespread it is. According to Dena, the issue is not resolved and that ordering a new iMac will not result in a fixed display.
She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.
I have been reading and reading but I can't seem to find the answer. Im trying to figure out if the optical drive for the iMac has a slimline sata connector or a standart sata connector. Reason is I'd like to install an SSD and use an optibay adaptor.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHey guys! So just a few days ago, I received my iMac, and boy do I love it. A definite upgrade and improvement from my old Acer Aspire 3680.
But despite this, I have noticed that my iMac does have a slight yellowish tint at the bottom to corners. I just arrived at my desk, and the login window (I keep a password lock) had a slight yellowish tint when I woke up my iMac from sleep . I then noticed that the bottom two corners had a slight yellow tint to them. I verified this via the MacRumors Forum post, and I was able to find it out by making my desktop background white. Again, it may not seem noticeable at first, but if you examine it closely, it becomes apparent.
I've already called my local Apple store and one of them said that don't know about this issue (?) and that they could schedule an appointment for me. I declined because I have to have me parents take me and I'm pretty sure that I can't handle the load of carrying a 20lbs. computer w/o dropping it (yikes!).
So here's the big question, should I go to my local Apple store or call the Apple hotline when it's open (currently closed at the time of this thread)? I don't want to sound like a lunatic or someone that just wants to get a better iMac for free. Again, it's slight, but considering that I do movie editing and Photoshop work
