So I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.
My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?
Just want to be sure before I set this up.
I am considering purhcasing iLife 09 to upgrade from iLife 08 that came pre-installed on my early-2008 MacBook Pro, as I like the new iPhoto features, (the iLife app I use most frequently out of the entire bundle), but I was wondering if by doing so there is a chance I may lose any files.
For those that did the same 08 to 09 upgrade, did you lose an individual photos from your library, albums altogether, events, slideshows, etc.?
For those that didn't lose them directly in iLife/iPhoto, what about on the HDD itself, and vice versa?
long time reader, first time poster. I know this topic has been beaten to death - but I've read all the post and have not found an answer for my question.
If you have iLife 08 installed and just installed a new copy of iLife 09 - does the following happen?
1. iLife 08 gets removed.
2. All Data from iPhoto 08, iMovie 08, iDVD etc, gets transferred to the new application.
3. No Importing is required to move any of the data over the new version of the software. It just works as if you didn't even have iLife 08 in the first place.
So i have iLife '08 installed and i'm about to install iLife '09. Do i need to uninstall iLife '08 first to install iLife '09?

Do you first have to uninstall 09 and then install 11 or can you do an in place upgrade? By this I mean, can you simply install iLife 11 over top of iLife 09?
I did a spotlight launch of imovie and i clicked on it, and imovie 08 is still in my system. Would it be safe to delete the imovie 08/ idvd 08/garage band 08 so it does not interfer with 09. I just dont wanna loose any of my info, i just dont want both on the system, getting confused with them opening up.

I've just checked my Software Update and found the ilife 09 update, and I don't have ilife 09, I only have ilife 08.
So I bought Leopard family-pack and installed on 4 Macs (and de-installed one). All installs were "clean installs". And all yielded Leopard WITHOUT iLife products (iPhoto, iTunes, etc.).
Now people tell me that they also did "clean installs" and iLife was present afterwards.
The only difference I can judge is that I used a family pack whilst the others used a "single licence" pack.
Can anyone provide some light into this?
I have a 2010 imac with ilife 09 and a early 2011 MBP with ilife 11, how can i upgrade the imac using the mbp instead of having to buy ilife 11 from the app store for the imac, I did recieve discs with my MBP so I know i cant just go to the app store and redownload like you can with new MBP's.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis machine has been running fine. I installed ilife8 - had eyeTV running. It was slow, hanging, unhappy so I rebooted. It took a long time but eventually restarted - got the chime and after a few seconds the white screen/grey apple. No spinning wheel - no nothing. After a few minutes the CPU fans slowly go to full scream. Have to hold power switch to shut down. Won't go into single user mode, won't boot CD (can't even get the CD out of the machine, but the dvd never spins up). I've pulled all the memory except the original apple mem. I've tried my Kinston mem. There is nothing else in the machine that isn't pure apple.

My family bought a mid-2010 iMac 21.5". Being our 1st Mac, we're still learning it. My son has "toyed" with Garage band a few times. My wife wants to learn iPhoto but hasn't found the spare time. But will soon - once our disabled kid goes back to school. Have't tried iMove yet. Don't think we will...ith above in mind, is the upgrade to iLife 11 (for upgrades to iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband) worth it? Is the updates in iPhoto and Garageband with the $50 cost? Or, is using current version (that came with my iMac) "good enough" for our usage?

Since I did that...the refurbished computer comes with Ilife 08 and I have ILife 09 installed on my old computer which I cloned to an external drive so that I can migrate my info over to the new one. I had bought the Mac Box set (Leopard, Ilife 09, Iwork 09) a while back and and can't find the Ilife 09 disc. Is it possible for me to migrate Ilife 09 over to my new refurbished computer that has the old Ilife 08 on it? or do I ave to buy Ilife 09 again?

Wiped the Drive and reinstalled from an OS X 10.7.3 from an Installer I had DL from the Mac App Store. Opened the Mac App Store and had to buy iPhoto, the only App the customer uses from the iLife Suite.
The USB "Software Reinstall Drive" that came with my MacBook Air, has iLife on it. The "Software Reinstall Drive" is recognised by my iMac and I can open it. However, when I try to run the iLife installer it says that it cannot install on this computer. Does anyone have any ideas or do you think that it is irrevocably fixed to the MacBook Air?

Also, she doesn't have broadband, just a 3G dongle connected to it, and she installed that fine, and everything works, except for watching trailers thru Front Row - it says shes not connected to the internet, even though she has internet access. We can screenshare (from my end at least) and we video chat, but she cant watch trailers?

I want to install a new, larger HD in my macbook and then make it my primary computer. Currently, I have most of my info on my aging G5 iMac which is slowly starting to fall apart (i.e. optical drive/keyboard no longer work, making strange noises, etc.). I know that, once I put a new, larger HD in my macbook, I will have to format it and install Leopard. Is there a way to then transfer all of my info from the iMac to the new HD in the macbook after I put Leopard on it? I currently have a Time Machine'd backup external HD hooked up to my iMac.

I'm on Tiger 10.4.11 w/ iLife 06 (on C2D iMac). Everything works great! I'd probably stick with Tiger as it's been very good and stable. However I'd like to get an iPad but see that syncing the iPad with a Mac/OSX requires 10.5 or newer. I figure if I'm going to upgrade I might as well get current with 10.6. Seems people have had mixed results with getting the $30 upgrade disk and going direct from Tiger to SL. I don't mind getting the "Box Set" from Apple. $130 isn't the end of the world. Couple question maybe someone could help with regarding the Box Set: Can I do an in place upgrade of OS and iLife with the Box Set? If in place upgrade fails or performance isn't quite what I expected can I then do a clean install? A friend said his SL performance was much better after he did a format and clean install as compared to when he did the upgrade (from Leopard) on his MacBook Pro.) I will backup my info. Is there anything to worry about with exporting or backing up iLife apps (iPhoto, iTunes, GarageBand), Email, Address Book, etc in Tiger then restoring in SL and iLife 11?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my update disc, but when I put it in, it just sits there cranking for a minute or so and then ejects the DVD. I made sure my software was updated first, and did a shut-down ... but it still just ejects it.
I zapped the PRAM ... and then it did hold on to the disc a lot longer, but it just cranks and cranks and then ejects. I did put in a music CD just to make sure it wasn't the CD driver, but the CD opened and played just fine. Any ideas on why iLife '11 won't install?
I have a late 2007 MacBook running OS 10.6.5. When I insert my new iLife 11 DVD, nothing happens... I have to eject the DVD using the F12 key.History:- The OS 10.6 DVD read just fine under Leopard, hence the successful install.- Other DVDs read/mount just fine.- iLife disk spins for a few seconds, then stops. No response from the drive.- F12 Eject works.
