View 5 RepliesSo I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.
My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?
Just want to be sure before I set this up.
I was curious of peoples opinions on the below comparison. The price difference is $150 more for iMac 2. I see that bringing the RAM equal would be $25-30 on Crucial, and for both to bring it up to the 4GB supported is like $50-60. so not a big difference, and I'd probably do that regardless of which one was purchased.
So really, the main dividing factors are the 1) processor speed bump, 2) 250 vs 320 GB drive and 3) the graphics card. Also, is there a difference between "fronside bus" and "system bus" that greatly impacts performance? Do you think these differences are worth $150 price increase?
Can anyone tell me what the real world power difference is between an imac 2.4 ghz and macbook 2.4ghz for Photoshop and light video?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to buy an iMac i7 3.4GHz with 256 GB SSD for professional audio use. I'm wondering if it would be faster to stream audio samples from an additional 2TB internal hard drive or an external Thunderbolt drive.

I am considering purhcasing iLife 09 to upgrade from iLife 08 that came pre-installed on my early-2008 MacBook Pro, as I like the new iPhoto features, (the iLife app I use most frequently out of the entire bundle), but I was wondering if by doing so there is a chance I may lose any files.
For those that did the same 08 to 09 upgrade, did you lose an individual photos from your library, albums altogether, events, slideshows, etc.?
For those that didn't lose them directly in iLife/iPhoto, what about on the HDD itself, and vice versa?
I have found a bug with the 27" iMac (i upgraded from a 24" imac. stupid move.?)when I zoom in on an image the window with go on the RH side to the iMacs max screen width. in that it hides the scroll bars behind the Pallet and side menus and options.Has anyone else had this problem.?has anyone else found a cure for this also.
View 5 Replies View Relatedlong time reader, first time poster. I know this topic has been beaten to death - but I've read all the post and have not found an answer for my question.
If you have iLife 08 installed and just installed a new copy of iLife 09 - does the following happen?
1. iLife 08 gets removed.
2. All Data from iPhoto 08, iMovie 08, iDVD etc, gets transferred to the new application.
3. No Importing is required to move any of the data over the new version of the software. It just works as if you didn't even have iLife 08 in the first place.
So i have iLife '08 installed and i'm about to install iLife '09. Do i need to uninstall iLife '08 first to install iLife '09?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am thinking about upgrading to iLife 09. If I buy the discs and install, do they overwrite iLife 08 or will I then be able to choose between the two groups of applications?
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy family bought a mid-2010 iMac 21.5". Being our 1st Mac, we're still learning it. My son has "toyed" with Garage band a few times. My wife wants to learn iPhoto but hasn't found the spare time. But will soon - once our disabled kid goes back to school. Have't tried iMove yet. Don't think we will...ith above in mind, is the upgrade to iLife 11 (for upgrades to iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband) worth it? Is the updates in iPhoto and Garageband with the $50 cost? Or, is using current version (that came with my iMac) "good enough" for our usage?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a refurbished 2.66 Ghz Imac with a decidated graphics card (ATI) rather than get the newer 2.66Ghz version (early 2009) with the Nvidia intergrated card. Since I did that...the refurbished computer comes with Ilife 08 and I have ILife 09 installed on my old computer which I cloned to an external drive so that I can migrate my info over to the new one. I had bought the Mac Box set (Leopard, Ilife 09, Iwork 09) a while back and and can't find the Ilife 09 disc. Is it possible for me to migrate Ilife 09 over to my new refurbished computer that has the old Ilife 08 on it? or do I ave to buy Ilife 09 again?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a new 27inch base model iMac that comes with 4GB ram and a 4670 256mb Radeon graphics card. I noticed that when I copy/paste images in photoshop cs4 and drag the images, the pasted image usually gets blocky and moves in slow motion when i drag it. My friend has a Mac with a 512mb video card and 4gb of ram and has no such issue. I'm wondering if the difference in VRAm is what is causing my sluggishness in Cs4
My question is: should I have opted for the 512 model graphics card? I have another week or so to return my iMac. Or is this a RAm issue, and should I upgrade to 8gb of ram? I guess I'm wondering how much of a difference video memory makes on system performance. Thanks!!
exciting about the refresh today and gona pick up 27" i5 model. will you guys wait for one or two more weeks for iLife 10/11 "rumored of course"?and another question is what do you guys think between i5 dual core 3.6 vs i5 quad core 2.8

Wiped the Drive and reinstalled from an OS X 10.7.3 from an Installer I had DL from the Mac App Store. Opened the Mac App Store and had to buy iPhoto, the only App the customer uses from the iLife Suite.
To anyone who has bought iLife 11, how did you upgrade from 09? I cannot seem to find any documentation regarding this procedure on Apple's support site.
Do you first have to uninstall 09 and then install 11 or can you do an in place upgrade? By this I mean, can you simply install iLife 11 over top of iLife 09?
I did a spotlight launch of imovie and i clicked on it, and imovie 08 is still in my system. Would it be safe to delete the imovie 08/ idvd 08/garage band 08 so it does not interfer with 09. I just dont wanna loose any of my info, i just dont want both on the system, getting confused with them opening up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen the recent ilife 09 (8.0.1) update appears in Software Update people of both ilife 09 and ilife 08 reported that it appeared for them. My question is, is it safe to apply this update for those who are on ilife 08?
I've just checked my Software Update and found the ilife 09 update, and I don't have ilife 09, I only have ilife 08.
So I bought Leopard family-pack and installed on 4 Macs (and de-installed one). All installs were "clean installs". And all yielded Leopard WITHOUT iLife products (iPhoto, iTunes, etc.).
Now people tell me that they also did "clean installs" and iLife was present afterwards.
The only difference I can judge is that I used a family pack whilst the others used a "single licence" pack.
Can anyone provide some light into this?
The USB "Software Reinstall Drive" that came with my MacBook Air, has iLife on it. The "Software Reinstall Drive" is recognised by my iMac and I can open it. However, when I try to run the iLife installer it says that it cannot install on this computer. Does anyone have any ideas or do you think that it is irrevocably fixed to the MacBook Air?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new iMac (mid-2008 20" model) with a 2.4ghz Intel processor. I am a web designer and use this machine every day for my work. Several months after installing Adobe Creative Suite 3, I noticed that Photoshop was causing the cursor to jump and/or become jerky, as if the video card or processor were not keeping up with what's going on. This tends to happen after the computer's been in use for several hours or days after a restart. I have been following this in Leopard's Activity Monitor, and I noticed that Photoshop (being memory- and processor- hungry) taxes the processor more heavily than many other programs, which I expected. The strange thing, though, is that over time the Activity Monitor shows the "System" as taking up more and more processor capacity. I.E. when I first start up, the system is using 0-20% of the processor, the rest being available for the user; but after awhile, the system is requiring 50-90% of processor capacity, the result being that as soon as I switch into Photoshop from another program, the system is immediately overtaxed and starts moving very slowly (especially the cursor, as I said).
Now, here's the really strange part. As I said, this began happening a few months after I first installed Adobe CS3. I re-installed the software at Adobe's recommendation, and it was fine for another few months, but it began happening a few days ago, which is exactly the same time I shared a jump drive with a friend's worm-infected Windows XP machine. I know Macs don't get Windows worms, but is it possible that this thing has lodged itself on my system somehow and is causing it to run generally more slowly?
I just bought a new iMAC 24" and was about to buy Photoshop Elements 6 from Amazon. Then I read some disturbing reviews about this latest version not working very well, if at all on Macs. Some recommended going with Elements 4, but finding a new version of "4" is impossible.

So would mainly use it for pretty heavy photoshop work. just wandering if anyone here uses it for stuff like that, and how it performs....
I really want to jump on the i5/i7 27" band wagon, and I'd be grateful to hear from other Photoshop CS5/Lightroom 3 users who have received their new units. What configuration did you choose, and how do these two programs respond to the new system?
I'm currently running them (along with various PS plugins) on a March 2009 Core 2 Duo iMac and would like to know if the speed increase with an i5 or i7 would justify an upgrade.
I recently had my iMac repaired independently, with upgrade to Mavericks from Lion. I am trying to discover if my Apple purchases/upgrades have been recorded online seeing as of today I cannot find my printed Apple receipts or access much of the information/data which was not correctly migrated to my iMac. I would like to recover iDVD if possible.

At this current stage i have the white macbook, which i love. I'm looking into getting a iMac 24. Just a few things which worry me. I will be using adobe photoshop all the time for designing sites, is there a need to have a 8800 upgrade to let it run smoothly? Are you able to upgrade the graphics cards in iMac's after purchase? Also, been reading about and all this stuff about a new iMac. If true, whens it likely going to happen?
