hi! Today i started having this bug with iphoto. if i close the window in the x it quites the iphoto instead of closing the window. then i use cmd + tab and iphoto is not running. i thought it was some random temporary bug and restarted the system but i'm still having the bug. anyone know how to fix this?

I would like to set up my computer as a temporary FTP that my colleague could transfer the data to.I've set everything up according to most of the files I can find online. It's pretty straightforward, but my colleague still cannot connect to my machine.

I have tried checking with people at Apple store but they have failed to come up with the solution. Here is the problem everytime I restart my computer all the pictures from two of my events folders in the iphoto opens up at same time, meaning I have around 25 pictures or so opens up upon restart. I need to close them by using the function command and Q to close all at once. Often Time I hook up my computer to give presentation at work and its quite embarrassing that every one can see my pictures.

System update to 10.5.4 without difficulty. Today I followed instructions for Mobile Me system update. Then attempted restart. Now start up sequence stops with gray screen and spinning gear. I ran disk utility from Leopard start-up disk- no problem found. Still can't start from Mac Hard drive. What to do next?

I'm running 10.6.4. I have noticed for quite a while now (pre 10.6.2?) that after restarting my computer or logging out I have to re authenticate in System Preferences, even just to use Energy Saver! Once authenticated, everything stays normal until my next restart. I am admin and have one other test account which is standard.
This is extremely annoying when I want to quickly change something trivial like my network settings or whatever and I have to type in a complicated password.
Im new to these forums. I have just (5 months) purchased a new Macbook pro. I have upgraded the RAM to 4GB, but only recently since ive been in Canada (1 month) experienced this problem. The screen goes grey once a day and the computer asks me to restart the system. I believe its called a Kernal Panic. Ive read on other places that it might be caused by recently installed apps. But i have got rid of these and now nothing has changed! I havnt got my Install CD on me therefore cannot run a reboot. Im not sure if the issues are related but the Mac also kicks me out and makes me log in again. this doesnt happen as frequently but is still concerning and rather frustrating.

After I held the power button, and turned it back on, this message popped up AGAIN, but this time while it was still on the white screen.

Why did this happen twice? Overall I've noticed my iMac has been sluggish since installing Snow Leopard. I realized it happens whenever I plug in my Line6 TonePort (which is a USB device which switches the audio to go to my speakers via 1/4" outputs). I don't understand why this is suddenly causing the problem, it's been working fine for the last 2 years.
Ive read tons of threads about system prefs not remembering things and i am still yet to find something that fixes this problem. When i restart, or shut down and reboot, once i enter my password system prefs wont remember a single thing. not my default browser, not the size of my dock or my background. it takes all the songs out of my itunes and forgets all the passwords to my accounts online. it removes icons from my dock for example i added firefox to the computer and when i restart firefox is in the app folder but the icon wont stay on the dock. this is driving me insane. ive repaired permissions countless times.

I'm looking for a way to restart a native system service automatically if it ever gets turned off, specifically the screen sharing service. We have a shared Mac Mini running Lion, and sometimes the remote users get click-happy and shut off screen sharing in the middle of the night. I'm not sure if AppleScript or a plist is the way to go, or if there's an alternative solution I don't know about.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a rather new Mac user (it's been about 6 months since I bought my new aluminum iMac). Lately, I've been experiencing difficulties in shutting down my system, or even restarting it. I should probably note that I'm using 10.5.2 Sometimes, when I try to perform a system shutdown/restart, the OS gets to a point where only my desktop is shown but nothing happens (occasionally the beach ball keeps rolling, but not always).
At that point, (as far as I know) there's nothing I can do to restart/shutdown the system, besides pressing the "power" button for several seconds until the power goes down. When similar things happened on my old XP machine, I would just use CTRL ALT DEL and force quit all applications - until shutdown succeeds. There was never a scenario where I needed to cut the power in order to get the system to shut down. On OS X when this situation occurs, the CMD ALT ESC combo doesn't seem to work.

My iBook 12" G4 1.33 has been crashing alot with the black screen saying "you need to restart your computer".or, more often "Welcome to Open Firmware, the system time and date is:.... When i type "mac-boot" it flashes once and goes to an all blue screen with a folder in the center with a question mark on it. One more detail: on the very top of the firmware screen it says: Illegal instruction at %SRR0: ff85e778 %SRR1: 0008 1000
This has been happening for over a year now and we usually get it to start by pressing random keys and even shaking the laptop!! We have learnt there is a real issue with the airport card in these ibook g4�s but mine is the type you can�t get to the airport card without taking the whole thing apart. So its still in there but we dont use it because it brings on these kernel panics, But they continue and are getting worse, I have reset the PRam 100�s of times thru the Open Firmware but nothing changes, Don�t know how to boot through the cd drive as there�s no prompts, everything is backed up, so not too scared but just want my lovely Mac back. I have the discs if anyone can tell me how to use them in this situation, or help in anyway I would be soooo grateful. The forums seem to have a fairbit about thi kind of thing but none of the responses work for us
When I backup Time Machine it's just stuck on Preparing. I've tried stopping it then starting again. I've also tried dismounting the drive then remounting then backing up

I have tried a force restart (control-command-power), PRAM reset (command-option-P-R), and the SMC Reset (Shift-Control-Option Power). None of these steps corrected the problem. How I can get my MBA to boot?

I am running Snow Leopard, and every time I had to open Fan Control, it would restart System Preferences (presumably to launch in 32-bit mode). Now however, it still says "..needs to restart System Preferances" but when I press OK, System Preferences does not reopen. Hence I can't access the application.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a MBP running Snow Leopard. The keyboard and trackpad became unresponsive, even though music was still streaming through Google Chrome. So I held down the power button to force shutdown. When something like this occurs, is there anything that should be done upon restarting the system again? Any general maintenance, system checks, etc? From my experience with Windows, not infrequently after similar scenarios, forced shutdown or crash, upon restart it'll automatically go into some type of disc scan. I wonder if anything similar occurs or is necessary with OSX. And lastly, when the system freezes like in my instance, if that's considered a freeze even though music was streaming all the while, is holding down the power button the only resolution? Are there no other safer alternatives to attempt first?

Whenever I need to restart my MacBook Pro, a bunch of my preferences are lost. For example, I have to drag Google Chrome back in the dock. I lose my Expose preferences, login items I've disabled still pop up. Keyboard shortcuts with Spotlight (which I keep disabled because of a program I use), get set to default. It's terrbily frustrating to have to reset all these things over and over again and I can't find the answer. Part of it is I'm not terribly saavy with computer language. I can find the Terminal and type in commands though.

I started up my iBook today and it took me all the way through sign-in to my desktop before giving me a grey overlay with a little box saying that I need to restart. So I did and then it took me to my desktop again before scrolling code across the screen in a very messy, un-mac-like way. I tried getting into safe boot (restarting and pressing shift from after the tone until the apple and wheel show up) and it just ran the apple and wheel grey start-up screen for a while before kicking back into a normal restart and giving me the earlier results. So I went and got myself into single-user mode and ran the fsck -yf command. It told me this: Checking Catalog file Invalid extent entry (4, 190) Volume check failed Is there any way to fix this, to save my computer? I don't know anything about code or computers. My general mode of operation has been "I bought a /mac/. I shouldn't ever have to look at code."

I recently purchased an iMac so I can do image capturing. I had previously been using a PC and moved to the Mac. The software I have been using has a Mac and PC version. When I do my projects, it saves a temporary image file to the User's Temp directory as a jpeg on the PC. I have attempted to contact the software developers to ask them where on the Mac it stores this file and they have not gotten back to me. I am curiously if anyone can point me in the direction of where to find this temporary image file. I realize that Mac's stored images as .png not jpeg but I am getting no response from the company's devolper and I use this file for my projects.
