I was doing the most recent software update today. During the process, it told me to power down. I did and now when I turn on the MBA, I'm only getting a black screen. I have tried a force restart (control-command-power), PRAM reset (command-option-P-R), and the SMC Reset (Shift-Control-Option Power). None of these steps corrected the problem. How I can get my MBA to boot?

While trying to restart after downloading an iTunes update, my computer won't go past the grey screen with the apple and loading bar. When I hit command+s it says my system bootstrapper crashed. I've repaired the disk and disk permissions and it still won't load.

The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs. I have MacBook Pro 13 inches with Mac OS 01.7.2.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to add a Nokia Mail account in the mail app for Mac, Iphone or Ipad, the app does not know the SMTP and IMAP server settings for Nokia Mail. It prompts me to enter the IMAP and SMTP server settings manually, which is not fun. It will be nice if Nokia Mail server settings were easily discoverable by the Mail app. What is the process to update the Mail settings server so that any Nokia Mail user in the future when adding his/her account does NOT have to manually enter the server settings? Â

I got a message to install the latest security update, but the updater froze when I told it to install. Now I cannot start any new applications or processes (activities like copying files, emptying trash, etc. don't work) The apps which were running before are still working (but once closed, will not re-open) I dare not restart or put the computer to sleep. (Possibly software update freezing was a symptom rather than the cause - it is consistent with processes failing to start) I guess this means a system file has been corrupted, but without a working copy/paste and no terminal I don't know what I can do about it. All I have is a browser (firefox) and finder running. Is there any way I can recover the system?

I pulled the drive and then tried to update the software back to Snowlepord but I thnk the install failed. I've seen others with the same problem but can't seem to figure this out.

For some bizzare reason my Mac wont restart or update, not to sure when the problem started as I normally just put it into sleep! But basically when I click update it says the updates need the Mac to be restarted, I click ok. It basically logs out and goes to the Username screen to login. Same story when trying to restart/shutdown; just goes to the login screen.Â
I'm tempted to do a OS Wipe and start Fresh! However it's going to take 3 hours to download the latest OS! Patients isn't my strongest point !Â

I am having a problem with symbolic links getting corrupted. I have a new Mac Pro running 10.7.3.
I have defined symbolic links:
/Users/walker/G2S -> /Volumes/L2A/G2S [this is pointing to a different partition on the same JBOD RAID]
/home -> /Users
The second link was created after unmounting /home and removing it from the /etc/auto_master file. Both symbolic links worked for several days. But then for some reason, without a reboot, the links became corrupted:

> ls -al G2S
lrwxr-xr-x 1 walker staff 16 Mar 24 03:08 G2S -> X??G???GÒ?G???G
> cd G2S
G2S: No such file or directory.
Same nonsensical definition for /home link. I repeat, this did not happen after a reboot. It first happened on /home. I thought that might have been related to a new OS handling of the "/home" label. So I deleted the /home link and did a clean reboot. The G2S link was created after that reboot, not before.
After the above two problems happened, I created a new symbolic link:
/Users/walker/G2S2 -> /Volumes/L2A/G2S
I then did not use this new symbolic link in any of my processing scripts. A few weeks went by, then this link somehow got corrupted too:
lrwxr-xr-x 1 walker staff 16 Apr 2 17:22 G2S2 -> G???G1?Gu?G
How symbolic links are managed on a Mac (any process that controls their linking?), or For example, could it be due to bad RAM? I have 32 GB.

I was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the combo update on my 5,1 MacBook, my machine upon restart or shutdown, will merely close the menu bar and remove the desktop icons but the dock remains open. After a couple minutes, a message will pop up stating that which ever program was shut down last will not allow the restart or shutdown. Top however doesn't report the program as running. I repaired disk permissions.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Mac at work is due for an update but everytime I attempt to update it I am given the notification that the computer needs to restart in order to continue with the update. So I follow the prompt to restart it but all it does is go to an empty screen that only shows the background and the mouse. No service bars above the screen or below. Just the background and the mouse. It wont do anything passed that. What can I do to get it to actually restart?

recently my ibook keeps randomly locking up, it first started the other day when it got stuck on a blue screen at start-up eventually it came on, but kept locking up, no spinning beech ball just completely froze, i held down the power button to turn it off, i then had to wait at least ten minutes before trying to start up again, if i didn't it would get stuck on the blue screen, then something else weird happened, when i started up it came up with the mac set-up assistant similar to when you first upgrade, so i turned it off again and it went away, so i started up again this time i noticed that spotlight was indexing, despite it already doing that ages ago when i upgraded to leopard, so i thought this had something to do with it, because it kept freezing in the process, but today i turned it on, let it index and to my surprise it didn't lock up, so i went to play world of warcraft, and as soon as the login screen came up it locked up agai

I have upgraded the RAM to 4GB, but only recently since ive been in Canada (1 month) experienced this problem. The screen goes grey once a day and the computer asks me to restart the system. I believe its called a Kernal Panic. Ive read on other places that it might be caused by recently installed apps. But i have got rid of these and now nothing has changed! I havnt got my Install CD on me therefore cannot run a reboot. Im not sure if the issues are related but the Mac also kicks me out and makes me log in again. this doesnt happen as frequently but is still concerning and rather frustrating.

previously i have a problem for unable to login after my MBP hanged and restart.
i search online and found a solution to it which is to remove ATIRadeonX1000.kext . however by doing this there is a lot of inconvinent for me.

I have a Mac Pro with several raid array and single drives attached (1x Wiebetech RTX600 Raid 5 through SCSI; 1x CalDigit HDElement Raid 5 through miniSAS; 4x internal drives).Unfortunately, due to various reasons (electricity outtage and software crashes), I'm experiencing system crashes and need to hard re-start the system. Upon restart, I am able to boot back into Mac OS X, but sometimes one, or both of the raid arrays will not mount.However, after a period of 0.5 - 2 hours, the array would magically re-appear again. Sometimes this might even happen to internal drives that I had mounted inside the chassis of the Mac Pro.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have my 17" MBP besides me when it pronated me to restart after a software update. I am working in my other mac pro. Then I see the MBP with the blue screen for a while with no sign of activity. I press the power button, goes black and that is it. It won't want to start up again. The hard drive tries to read or something inside moves just once and that is it. Is not the hard drive broken, there is not reason and is not the sound of a broken drive, it sounds like the optical drive too. But the thing is that there is not activity, no sound of any sort. I disconnected the battery, unplugged the machine, power up, reconnect the battery and power and nothing. Is dead. The power light is on. It seems the software update did something to the computer. It has been on my desk for a week with Skype and messenger mostly.
View 5 Replies View Relatedso i have a macbook unibody late 2008 and i wanted to go on the itunes store and it said to update java. So i did the update that ocmes up on your mac and once it restarted it gave me an error that will not go away.
I am running bootcamp and windows works just fine. Also not sure if it makes a difference but i jailbroke my iphone right before i restarted and my iphone was connected so im not sure if that makes a difference when it boots up.
it would be very annoying to have to reformat.
Also if i do have to reformat can i leave windows intact?
I ran Software Update to install the update to Safari (4.0.5), and after it installed, it went into the portion where it needs to restart the computer. Where it installs after the OS shuts down, the update FAILED, and the computer restarted. After restart, Safari and Mail will NOT open, they go straight to the crash report prompt. Airport is connected, but opening Chrome will not get online. I'm led to believe the update corrupted something, because everything errors out, and I can't get anything done.
