I went on my computer and a browser window i had left open was now saying: "Turkish Hacker by Firtina bozo was here!" I'm assuming I've been hacked. I looked more into mac security and discovered I could enable Stealth Mode ( a bit too late i know ) but I did it anyway. Question now is... How do I know he is no longer connected? is it possible to see what files the hacker (cracker) was interested in if any? I was trying to look at the system log but don't really understand how to read it. All I know is I was away from the computer from around 4pm until around 10pm. but I see a lot of log activity between those times.
I just wrote a long detailed account of what's happening, and the hacker sent me somewhere else when I tried to post it. Now I have to start all over. Here are the facts:I'm normal and don't do anything weird on my computer. I have a G4 powerbook with Tiger and Vonage (not sure if that's considered a router) and an ethernet connection. I know how to set up all my preferences, I don't want to share anything. I want to use my computer and my internet by myself. It always starts out with my network config changing to "Internal Modem." Then my location changes, then my (LOCKED) system preferences are unlocked. The "Network Time" box will be checked. My firewall keeps getting turned off. My IP Net Sentry is suddenly set up to receive packages, and there are hundreds of scripts and Python and Network time, users named "Other", etc.
Today i saw unknown item in Finder Sidebar under Shared. When i clicked it, there was empty list and top of it was "Connecting... Share Screen... Connect As...". So someone tried to connect to my Mac and share screen???I have Snow Leopard and all Sharing settings are off. Firewall is on and now i turned "Block all incoming connections" to on.
I have two iMac 27's and a MacBook Pro in the household. All of them are on my network (both wired and wirless via an Apple Extreme)Now if I open "Finder" and look under "Shared" then - all of the mac's I expect to see appear there - but also a mystery machine - something called "imac-4431be"I cant connect to this Mac - and I don't know how it got there?? My house is about 400ft away from the nearest residence - so I guess I could be seeing someone else's iMac - but how did they get on my WPA protected network (and if they were clever enough to do so then I'd guess they be able to keep their machine hidden!)
This is a serious problem. My iTunes ratings, and play counts keep proper messing up.its showing that some of my songs have been played like 300 times (hundreds of tracks affected) and seemingly random ratings keep being applied.I use ratings and play counts a lot so its making my perfect library... hell.Thing is even though the play counts go off the roof, there is no value in the last played clumb so its either a glitch or they havnt been played on my macbook. its started to happen ever since I started using a bluetooth mighty mouse a month back. luckily imm using time machine and restored my library from before, i thought it was sorted but its just started doing it again (ive noticed).
Why does my mac stop downloading files, copying to clipboard, saving files to desktop, etc?
iMac g5 1.9 ghz 17" running 10.5.8. Had a hard drive crash and bought a new one. Loaded new OS leapord. Everything works fine at first, but after the computer has been on for a while, it will stop downlading files, disk verify doesn't work. I can't copy and paste stuff. It seems as if the hard drive is full, but I have only used 32GB of 300GB.
When I restart, it works again, then slowly not. Is it an overheating issue? How do I know if my fan is running? Is it a bad hard drive I put in it? Bought it new with three year waranty.
I am trying to save reworked raw and psd files as jpegs into a seagate hd and I'm getting an error message that reads no permission or authnorization to save. The hd was used on my pc and i need to use it between my pc at work and my mac at home. What can i do to use one hard drive with the two machines?
My old G4 iMac 20 is being given to an relative and I need to transfer files, addresses, bookmarks, etc. to my iMac 24 intel. Both Macs have OSX 10.4.11. What is best method to transfer data?
Also, how difficult to change the name who owns the iMac as well as the password?
I just ordered my first iMac. (27" i7). When it arrives, I would like to transfer a few gigs (15-20) of data from my early '08 15" MBP to it. I won't be doing the whole Apple wizard transfer thing, as I only want a few folders, not all of my settings.
What would be the best way to transfer these files? I'm thinking firewire. My MBP has both the 400 and 800 port. Would this work well? How about ethernet?
I would like to order from Monoprice, as I still have a $40 store credit. Will this 800/800 cable work with both machines? I get so confused with all of the different cables they have.
I have an iMac, 3.06gig, 27". I recently purchased a Toshiba Camileo s20 camcorder. It records movies in the .avi format. When I transfer them to my iMac, they don't play, using Quicktime and RealPlayer, both of which should play .avi format. Can anyone tell me what Im doing wrong?
I have a bunch of album covers that got transfered from my old windows computer. I want to delete them but when I drag them into the garbage can nothing happens. It asks me to type in my password which I do but it doesn't delete the files. When I hit more info on them it doesn't say they are locked or anything.
I recently got an Imac with lepord on it, and my last mac had tiger. I tried coping and pasting, and when I right click on the highlighted area, and the highlight just goes away.
i want to burn multiple tom and jerry files for my daughter onto one single dvd so i can play it on the dvd player for her. Each file is about 75 MBS (8 mins episodes) but altogether they make upto 1.7 gb. The DVD-RW is 4.7 GB more than enough room i know but i just don't know what software to use that will allow me to burn them all and be playable on a dvd player. I am using the 27" imac and these files work fine on quicktime.
What I would like to do is to be able to work on my Macpro on a document and be able to see the document in my iMac without having to copy, or connect to the other Mac. How do I do that? I would like to see the same folders in both. I know that that should be possible, shouldn't it?
This is what i have is a 27inch 17 Imac and a 13inch mbp. I would like to make a exact copy of what on my imac and put it on my macbook and take my macbook to work and school. Then come home and then Take what i did on my macbook pro and tranfer downloaded files/applications/documents andto the imac once i get home. I this possible if so how?
Could anyone here recommend an easy way to backup files, info, etc from a PC and then transfer them to a Mac? It's an 09 24" iMac if that makes any difference.
When I set up my new mac it offered me the ability to transfer my files from one computer to another. Silly me, I was tired, and chose not to do it at that time.
How do I get back to that screen? And, is it difficult? I have slightly more ability than basic but am not a guru. And I admit to not having done this in years, I normally just copy things on cd rom, but if there is a simple way, this would be great.
I really only want my photographs to transfer. It is easy to do my files.
I could I know download my pics from me.com but I think it would take forever as they are at full resolution.
I have been collating files and documents over the past few months. I have decided to keep them in a more organised fashion so I created a folder for films, music, etc and then I want to put further folders in the folders so I can keep certain files together.
I have created the folder but cant seem to move the files in to it - I can copy it then paste it but that seems a bit long winded just to move a file in to another folder (folder within folder.)
Just bought an MBA today and am having zero luck wirelessly seeing the files, videos, etc. on my iMac for viewing on the MBA. In my iMac, the sharing options are all checked right. But I cannot get access to it other than something called a "drop box". Same the other way around.
I just got my first Apple computer three days ago, an iMAC. My question is: I need a recommendation for a 3rd party file conversion software program that will enable me to convert WAV (song) files (that I will export into the iMAC) into MP3 files. On my PC I used "dBPoweramp" but it is only a windows-based program.
I'm about to buy a new Macbook and I was wondering how people stored their files. For example, I have all my music on my iMac - do people normally share music and photos between their computers?
I'm thinking that having two computers can be quite frustrating if some of the files are on a desktop and you're out and about with a laptop.
I don't want to have all my data spread across two machines - I think this might be confusing!
I use handbrake to rip movies to TV files (.m4v). Is there a way to reverse this process? Say I don't have the DVD anymore, just the .m4v file, and want it to be able to play in any DVD player. Does anyone know a way to convert the .m4v back into video_ts/audio_ts files?
I have a Power Mac 8600 OS 8.1 and would like to transfer files to a New Imac OS 10.5.6.
The 8600 has a built in 100 zip drive. I was thinking of buying a used Iomega 100 mg external zip to use on my Imac to transfer the files via the removable disks. Will this work?
I am trying to transfer files from my white Macbook to my new refurb 2.8 Imac. I am using firewire 6 pin to connect. Then using migration assistant, but transfer always freezes about 1/3 of the way. I've tried moving just my photos no apps but same thing happens. Only way to unfreeze is turn laptop off then I get improper device removal. Am I doing something wrong? Also wondering what is all this stuff in my document folder? 10,000 items, lots of pics, icons and html sheets. Any idea what all that is? Can it safely be deleted?
I get these WMV files from time-to-time from a friend and I cannot open them. I took sometime and browsed around on the Web and found some great information plenty going on about how wonderful they are on PC"s but very little with regard to converting and or opening and playing these Windows based files in the OSX environment. Any suggestions on a viewer or converter that I can use with my iMAC, that runs transparent? And, that doesn't take an instrument rating to install and run.
I recently moved my WD 1Tb HD from my PC to my iMac which recognised it and it's files at once. However when I try to move any files from my iMac to the external drive, I get the following message:The item could not be moved because WD My Book cannot be modified.I have no idea what this means (I'm a relative Newbie to Mac) can anyone help me?
I'm having a problem with my Mid 2007 iMac. Some files copying from a DVD (Logic Express 9 Demo Content), cause my iMac to restart. I know the files are fine as I can copy from another mac. I've had this problem twice before since I've had my mac (Oct 2007), but it was in reverse (trying to burn to a DVD). Everything else works fine copying to and from the drive. I want to ring Applecare, but I can imagine that they will say don't worry about it, since its only them files, and everything else can copy fine.
I've tried all the basic stuff: -checking a new account -permissions -pram -and the smc
