OS X :: System Is Controlled By A Hacker?

Oct 1, 2009

I just wrote a long detailed account of what's happening, and the hacker sent me somewhere else when I tried to post it. Now I have to start all over. Here are the facts:I'm normal and don't do anything weird on my computer. I have a G4 powerbook with Tiger and Vonage (not sure if that's considered a router) and an ethernet connection. I know how to set up all my preferences, I don't want to share anything. I want to use my computer and my internet by myself. It always starts out with my network config changing to "Internal Modem." Then my location changes, then my (LOCKED) system preferences are unlocked. The "Network Time" box will be checked. My firewall keeps getting turned off. My IP Net Sentry is suddenly set up to receive packages, and there are hundreds of scripts and Python and Network time, users named "Other", etc.

OS X :: System Appearing In My Network - Hacker?

Dec 19, 2010

I have two iMac 27's and a MacBook Pro in the household. All of them are on my network (both wired and wirless via an Apple Extreme)Now if I open "Finder" and look under "Shared" then - all of the mac's I expect to see appear there - but also a mystery machine - something called "imac-4431be"I cant connect to this Mac - and I don't know how it got there?? My house is about 400ft away from the nearest residence - so I guess I could be seeing someone else's iMac - but how did they get on my WPA protected network (and if they were clever enough to do so then I'd guess they be able to keep their machine hidden!)

IMac :: See Files Hacker Interested In?

Feb 6, 2009

I went on my computer and a browser window i had left open was now saying: "Turkish Hacker by Firtina bozo was here!" I'm assuming I've been hacked. I looked more into mac security and discovered I could enable Stealth Mode ( a bit too late i know ) but I did it anyway. Question now is... How do I know he is no longer connected? is it possible to see what files the hacker (cracker) was interested in if any? I was trying to look at the system log but don't really understand how to read it. All I know is I was away from the computer from around 4pm until around 10pm. but I see a lot of log activity between those times.

Applications :: ITunes Glitch Or Intruder Hacker?

Nov 22, 2009

This is a serious problem. My iTunes ratings, and play counts keep proper messing up.its showing that some of my songs have been played like 300 times (hundreds of tracks affected) and seemingly random ratings keep being applied.I use ratings and play counts a lot so its making my perfect library... hell.Thing is even though the play counts go off the roof, there is no value in the last played clumb so its either a glitch or they havnt been played on my macbook. its started to happen ever since I started using a bluetooth mighty mouse a month back. luckily imm using time machine and restored my library from before, i thought it was sorted but its just started doing it again (ive noticed).

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Grey Line Screen On Screen Sharing Virtual Display?

Mar 10, 2012

Whenever I try to use Screen Sharing to control this one particular Mac Mini, and someone else is using the mini, and I pick "Connect to Virtual Display", I get dropped to a grey linen screen.  Like the login screen, but without a list of usernames or anything.  There it sits. Here is what I see in the console of the mac mini when I try and use a virtual display from the other machine:

3/10/12 7:30:04.291 AM mds: (Error) Backup: Couldn't stat source path '/Users/glados/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.finder.savedState/window_3.data' -- importing from backup path instead

Applications :: Won't Work With Full Screen And Screen Sharing

Aug 19, 2010

Does anyone know of a way to enter full screen in Mac OS X's native screen sharing application? I recently purchased a new MBP and wanted to screen share to my old MB with all my "junk" on it. It would be handy to actually enter full screen as opposed to being restricted to a window sized screen.

If this isn't possible, anyone have a good recommendation for an alternative application?

OS X :: Screen Sharing With Password

May 28, 2009

I want to set the screen sharing on a iMac. It works fine when I enable the "Anyone may request permission to control screen" but I would like to use only the "password" option but it doesn't work. When I just set a VNC password and then try to connect via the "Screen Sharing" app, it keeps saying that the password is not correct. Which "login" am I supposed to use? When I use another client such as UltraVNC, it works. So how can I enter a password onl with the Screen Sharing app?

OS X :: Screen Sharing Login - How To Know About It

Just got a new MBP and migrated my account from my MB using Migration Assistant. Everything works, but if I try using screen sharing/Back to My Mac from ANY of my other Macs in the house to my new MBP, I cannot log in using my short name.

Can log in and screen share using my full name, but prefer three letters over many. Everything else works fine; can even file share using short name, just not screen sharing.

OS X :: Screen And File Sharing Security?

Nov 4, 2010

I've been using my MacMini as a server to backup and sync several Macs on my local LAN but recently I found the need to access certain files outside my LAN. That said, I set my router to forward ports 548, 9, and 5900 (file sharing, WOL, and screen sharing, respectively) to my MacMini. This has actually worked rather well for me -- other than WOL. So in an attempt to diagnose the WOL issue I started probing my router's incoming logs (to see if I can successfully send a WOL magic packet from outside my network) and thats when I noticed a few random IPs probing port 5900. So my question is, what are some security measures that I can take in order to prevent someone form accessing my MacMini from the open ports? In theory couldn't a simple program attempt to repeatedly connect to a port and brute force a password? Excuse my naivety with networking, but I'm a little concerned. I did some searching but I couldn't find anything substantial on the forums.

MacBook Air :: Home Screen Sharing From MBP?

Aug 25, 2008

I am thinking of getting an MBA as a second computer. One thing I am interested in, particularly after discovering how slow it is to access a remote drive on the AEBS, is screen sharing significantly faster?

1) If I was at home screen sharing from my MBP, would it work pretty much in 'real time'?
2) Same question but when on the road.

I'm not an expert in networking, but I'm pretty good with computers, so you can use technical terms.

OS X :: Best Option For Remote Screen Sharing?

Mar 2, 2010

I am trying to figure out what the best option is for remote controlling my computer. I've used LogMeIn Free, which is a great option, and I really like that I can use any web browser from any computer, and even my iPhone to remotely control my primary desktop computer.

I've also used Mac's built in ScreenSharing.app to access my various computers using the Back To My Mac, which is also a great option.

I guess I would just like to find out if any better options exist. I do not like that the Mac's built in ScreenSharing.app doesn't permit me to view my remote desktop "Full Screen".

I do not like that LogMeIn seems like little more than a PC ported application made to work with a Mac as an after thought.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Get Screen Sharing To Work Again

May 16, 2012

I have a mac mini server running OSX Lion 10.7.4  Until powring this down over the weekend, it had worked beautifully.  I coould connect, access shared files, screen share (as I am running in head less) as well as access it via Server Admin from a remote computer.

After restarting, I can still share files, but am unable to access the sceen share or administer remotely.  The odd thing is that when I connect it to my TV I can then also access it with screen share from another MacBook Pro as well as use server admin for remote admin.  As soon as I run it headless again, I cannot access it via screen share.

I have noticed that the screen share finction has changed from before, so am wondering if this has anything to do with it.

I have not chnaged any settings on it.  Firewall is the same as before, filesharing and screen sharing is enabled and I am trying to access it as a registered user.
