They used to just move without copying.
How do I undo this?

I think I have found a flaw in OSX 10.6.4 file copying..I normall back up my files, by dragging from a folder on my HD to an identical folder on my external HD.The folder I am copying has 86 files in it, but there are only about two dozen new files added since my last back up.I have been telling it by the dialogue box, not to replace identical files in the back up folder, and clicking the check box to apply to all."but when I press the dont copy button, in the copy progress box it says it is copying 86 files. WTF is going on...!@#$%^&*().

I put in a DVD and I do not see an icon for the DVD. I was thinking that copying my photos, or a folder full of photos to a DVD with my Apple computers should be as easy as dragging and dropping them onto the DVD disc icon.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI finally ripped my music into digital format. It is a very large library so I performed the rips in four segments creating four folders of music. The highest level folders are Music1, Music2, Music3, Music4. The next layer folder is the artists name, then album name, then the actual MP3S.
How do I merge the folders? If I perform a copy the first artist name is sees that already is exists, the finder wants me to skip the copy or replace the folder that is there. I simply want to add the folder or merge it. Is there a "merge" function in OSX? I tried Carbon Copy but it will not copy or sync fils on the same disk.
I was wondering if there's a way to move files instead of copy them via dragging with the mouse, or even a keyboard shortcut? I mostly run into this problem when I'm trying to move stuff to and from the Firewire External Drive I have connected to my Mac. It's kind of frustrating since I have to delete all the original ones, since I simply don't need them anymore.
View 23 Replies View RelatedI want to copy certain files (to an external hard drive, but that doesn't matter) to another folder. But i want it to do it automatically with one click (or two, but you get the point). I want it to only copy files that are also in the destination folder from the source folder to the destination folder. (sorry that doesn't make much sense). But my goal is to back up my music into a folder, but not all of, only the folders that are already there. So basically, replacing old with new, but adding no new folders at all.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new macbook 13" (first time ever using mac so i dont know much yet) and have been trying to copy some of my files from my pc to my macbook using my USB flash drive, however everytime i try to copy a file from the usb to my macbook i got the message: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not sufficient privileges for some of the items."
After clicking ok to this message the copying status bar doesnt move and the estimated time remaining displays nothing even after waiting for ~1hour.
I tried going to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility to repair disk permissions but the option is greyed out on my flash drive.
I have also tried reinstalling osx but this seemed to just be a big waste of time.
I can not copy my files from my Download folder in my mac to my usb external hard drive, I get this error message: (This item could not be moved because "External Disk" could not be modified)
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to transfer all settings and applications from my iMac to my Mini? It took some three working days to setup my iMac. What I want is obviously to have the exact setup on both my iMac and my Mini without having to configure both computers separately. I guess Migration Assistant isn't really meant for this task, or is it? Would a disk image of the iMac's system partition do the trick, despite different hardware setups? Both computers are running Snow Leopard.

Ive "NetPresenz 4.1" installed on Power Macintosh 8100/80AV Mac OS 9.1 to connect to MacBook Pro Mac OS X 10.7.3using Firefox plugin FireFTP -to share everything vice versa. (This is the only way that I know to transfer files between these to Systems! I'm right)
When FTP files (Docs & Apps) from OS X 10.7.3 to OS 9.1 in both modes Binary & ASCII, the OS 9.1 receive them as a generic file and cannot be recognized! Some of the applications, like installers, do not have extension. But when burring them on CD through OS X 10.7.3, and insert the CD into OS 9.1 it does recognize them.

I have two macs one with Tiger and one with leopard answer can be for either OS
NOTE: I am doing this with Tiger. I have read complaints about how Windows Explorer is better than OS X Finder. One popular complaint is that it is impossible to copy/move a file from one folder to another folder outside the current one without two windows as Finder doesn't have a split window setup like Explorer. This simply isn't true. Mac OS X simply handles this differently than Windows. Heres how...
1. Open a window and go to the folder that you want to copy/move files to.
2. Drag that folder to your sidebar (+T)
3. Navigate to the folder that contains what you want to copy/move.
4. Drag your file(s) to the folder you just put in your sidebar to move them or hold 'option' and drag to copy them.
5. If you don't want the folder you copied to permanently in your sidebar just drag it out.
If your needs are more robust and you want to copy/move between many folders you can drag as many folders to your sidebar as you can fit. Plus your folders will be just as you left them when you go back to them (with the exception of the view). The sidebar doesn't have to be permanent and is your friend .
I am looking for a program that will copy a selection of files from my office computer to a server every day. I do not want to use backup, as i want the files to be directly accessible on the server. Snow Leopard killed my direct access to my office computer from the outside.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor example, say I have a folder called Files1, and it has 10 further folders in there. And then I have another folder called Files1 too, which includes updates (new files in) just 3 of the folders.
Is it possible to just drag the new Files1 folder over the old one BUT it just copies over the 'duplicate' files and folders? And leave the others untouched? (bit like how it works when FTP'ing files to a server).
Default behaviour seems to completely overwrite the folder - which is not what I want.
Recently I have been trying to install Snow Leopard to no avail. First, I attempted to install it from the dual layer disc I have, and when that wasn't working I partitioned my external hard drive and created an installation image from which to boot. I keep receiving the error: "Installer could not copy the necessary support files". I have scoured the web trying to find the solution, and most people have pointed toward a hardware problem. I verified the HDD and I played with the RAM configuration. Remember reported that one of my 1gb modules was faulty, so I took that out and I still keep getting the same error.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I burned a bunch of DVDs back in 2007 on my old Windows Laptop. Now I need these files again and I started copying the files form the DVD to my MacBook Pro. Unfortunately it tells me it takes about an hour to copy the 4.7GB on to the Hard Disk. Is that normal? I checked several DVDs that I burned back in 2007 and they all say it takes at least an hour. I tried to stream a 700MB movie from the DVD... didn't work... too slow. I just turned on my old Windows laptop where I burned the DVDs from and there it works without a problem. Movies streams straight away and if I copy all the files it takes about 10-20 minutes. So what's the deal with the built in DVD drive of my MacBook Pro? I need to copy content of 10 DVDs onto my MacBook and I don't really feel like waiting 10 hours
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've created an ISO file which I need to back up and keep safe. I have a couple on my macbook pro but due to the large file size, it's taking up alot of space on my hard drive. I tried to drag and drop this onto my external hard drive but when I attempted to move them, it came back with an error message saying it wasn't possible to do due to an error. I can drag and drop every other type of file but for some reason this wont want to work?
Note: The file itself ranges from 4.9GB - 8GB and I have about 200GB space on my portable hard drive.
I'm trying to backup two .iso files (5.33GB and 5.05GB respectively) from my MacbookPro running Leopard 10.5.2 on to a Westgate external USB drive. When I try to do that it gives me "error code 0" and it fails to create a copy or transfer the file.
Is there a limit on how big files can I transfer through the mac? Is there a way to get around this?
I've tried split, but then how do I concatenate the split files together to get the original? I tried "cat" on .bz2 files and I can't get to replicate the correct original to (when I unzip it the unzipping process stops midway with an error).
I was able to concatenate 2 out of 3 parts of the 5.33GB files and the .iso opens up on diskmount but then when I try to concatenate the 3rd part it compains that the file is too big. So I'm stuck
"Concat" is not recognized by my Mac.
Inadvertantly dragged a CD full of images ontothe desktop of a G3 powerbook.
Desktop now has 1000's of jpgs on it, on loading this is slowing the system to a crawl and making the machine unusable (spinning colored disk all the time)
So how can I move these files from the desktop without having the machine boot up normally ?
On a PC I could boot to command mode and manually remove the desktop entries, is the same possible with Mac?
This morning I updated my G5 mac with one of the updates called the Migration and DVD/CD sharing update from the mac website. Now I cant seem to transfer files from either a cd or dvd. I can open the files from the disc but cant copy files to the desktop.
