I've always had my computer in the corner of my desk. I don't know why, but I just prefer it there. However, with my new super-huge 27" screen, the iMac doesn't really seem to fit in the corner pocket like my old 17". I'm thinking about becoming a "center of the desk" person as a result, but I'm reluctant to do so. Where do most people place their new iMac on their desk and why?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just placed an order for the 24" iMac. Apple lists the weight of this machine as 25 lbs. I intend for it to be my primary desktop machine, claiming its residence atop my computer desk which is made of 8mm-thick tempered glass and aluminum framing.My only concern is that 25 lbs might be too heavy for the glass. Unfortunately I cannot find a maximum load specification for the desk anywhere. If I can find the manufacturer's number I'll certainly call them but I can't find that either. So, anyone here have a similar setup and care to comment? Coming home and finding shattered glass and 2 grand of mangled hardware wouldn't make for a happy time!

View 1 Replies View RelatedAccording to the specs on the Apple site, the depth of the iMac 27" is 8.15 inches (20.7 cm). I assume this is including the foot? Could someone measure the total depth of the 27", from the front to the back including the foot? So the full depth, just to be sure?
My desk (Ikea Galant) has a depth of 31.5 inches (80 cm), so it's not that deep, and it's setup against a wall. I'd like to know how this monster iMac would look on it, and if my face isn't going to be too close to the screen (now about 25 to 30 inches).
I'm trying to find a desk lamp for the 24" iMac. My Dad uses one for work and his eyesight isn't what it used to be, so I'm looking for something that will sit on top of the iMac and give light to the whole desk.
Unfortunately, a Google search finds only the old classic G4 'desk lamp' iMac, but I'm actually after an iMac desk lamp, if that makes sense.
Function over aesthetics, but preferably nothing too hideous that detracts from the natural beauty of the Mac. Any suggestions would be great
Maybe this is going to sound silly but do I have to worry about this thing being too heavy for my glass-top Office Max desk? It's 30.5 lbs, twice as heavy as the Dell widescreen monitor I currently use. This is my first all-in-one so it's all new to me!

The low, loud vibrating noise drives me so mad I snap. It penetrates my very brain and makes it vibrate. It's audible from another room. In desperation, I raised my Mac and the sound stopped. I put it on the floor, and the machine is silent. Back on desk - airplane engine sound again. What the heck? My desk has been perfect for all my other computers, what's so special about i7?

When I have my desktop wallpaper showing there is one pixel that will only show white, no matter what background pic I put up. It's dead center in the screen so I was immediately irritated, then I noticed when I open Safari (or anything else like finder, apps, docs...whatever) the white dot goes away. I tried messing around with it and putting up black background and a white back ground and I don't understand how this is happening. View 3 Replies View RelatedMy 27" has one speck of dust in the corner. I spoke with local Apple repair shop and they'll take care of it "provided no indications of tampering are detected". Other possible dings not detected, so I got away relatively light. I wouldn't worry about it normally, but it'll have to be mentioned at sale time three years down the road, and the price will take a hit if I leave it there.

View 6 Replies View RelatedUsing 24 inch iMac (purchased a year and half ago). There seemed to be moisture forming in the lower right hand corner of the iMac screen (about 6 inches wide and 2 inches tall at worst). i have read that this seems to be a common problem. Had the iMac for about a year and half and never saw this issue though. Based on forum research, the recommendation was to turn on the AC to reduce humidity. Moisture definitely disappeared after 30 minutes, however I'm concerned it will happen again. I suppose I will bring it into Apple concered (although i would rather avoid dealing with it). Has anyone else experienced this?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi bought the 2009 refurbed 27"er and returned it 3 times due to yellow screen problem. for the 4th replacement they decided to send me the new model.
i have the 3rd and 4th replacements sitting here side by side.the 3rd replacement, which has a yellow corner is light years better than the new one.
the new screen doesn't have yellow corners...it's a perfectly consistent yellowish brown tone.
the older one has a yellow corner, but is much more illuminated and very balanced white. the max brightness of the new one is only 3/4s of the max of the old one.i tried configuring it to no avail.
are all the new models like this?it's quite a bit snappier, but the screen is worse than the last 3 that had yellow patches? it almost seems like it was a return and it shipped from cali rather than asia?
when I open pages, numbers, etc. that when they open they open big? In other words whenever I open a file it always opens small and they I have to drag the lower corner to make it cover the scree,.

I've got an imac with a dead monitor and when i plug in an external monitor to get a display it only shows me the far corner of the desktop and I cannot access the dock or anything else to change settings. I need to change the monitor setting to MIRROR MODE which I believe is located in System Preferences but I cannot see anything with the current limited display.

View 23 Replies View RelatedI just noticed this why my computer was booting up today because its only visible against a white background, but there is some grey textures in the lower right hand corner of my display that resemble the strands of a carpet, in that they are fine lines that do not go straight up, but curve. The other thing it kind of looks like is frost. Anyways, anyone know what this is and if I can do anything about it?

First off, music is my main priority when it comes to computing, I write all sorts of electronic music, I'm used to working in Windows under Ableton or FL Studio, so I'm not hip to the Mac software for these functions.
In addition to the electronic music I write, I'm also very much into music instruments, I've been playing drums for around 8 years now, bass for 5 years, guitar even... so I plan on multi-track recording... up to 16, maybe even 32?I do plan on opening up my own home studio, I would be using this PC, (not sure if the MBP or the iMac)
I'm also a lightweight gamer, playing games such as Team Fortress 2, World of Warcraft, or StarCraft II (Diablo 3 will probably be my biggest gaming vice when it comes out) sparingly in my free time, which would be better for this sort of light gaming?I sometimes spend up to 8 hours on the computer, also, so if these screens are too harsh on the eyes after extended periods of time, I'd appreciate if someone could enlighten me to that.
SO, with all that said, which do you guys think would suit me better? (and I'm really thinking the iMac would)... I used to want portability, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable taking a $2,000 laptop with me around campus at the local community college.
- Needs to be able to record up to 32 tracks of audio
- Needs to be able to render high quality tracks
- Minimal latency
- Able to run some of the less graphic intensive games out now
- Easy on the eyes for extended periods of time

System Spec: Late 09 21" 3.06, GeForce 9400, 4gb ramCurrently I have itunes and safari running, if i enable the visualizer my imac is noticeably slower, especially when browsing the internet.I thought it might be the fact I was running a second 1080p display from the 9400 would have caused the slow down. But the same thing occurred after i disconnected it. After repairing permissions and restarting, pmram etc.Is the 9400 causing the slowdown? I know its fairly old but itunes visualizer and safari should be quite basic tasks. Its not the end of the world i know but does the 27" imac have similar issues as i plan to upgrade my machine in 2011.
I had a DLink DIR-655 Wireless N router and my wireless was running very fast, 9.7MB using [URL] with no lag looking up sites. I had to upgrade the router since I was hosting a site and the router wasn't working properly for that.
So, I bought a Linksys WRT610N Dual Band router. I have the iMac running on the 5GHz band and it runs around the same speed.
HOWEVER, when I open Safari or Firefox, in the status bar, it says "looking up google.ca..." or whatever site I'm browsing for and can take up to 5-10 seconds before it starts to display the site. When it is on the site, browsing around is fast as long as it doesn't change domains.
ANOTHER HITCH, I have VMWare's Fusion installed on the iMac and Vista installed there and there is no lag to browsing a site. When I type in the site, it immediately goes to the site and I am able to browse fine.
Any thoughts on this?
The Mini Has Some Great Software On it, Could i Use Migration Assistant To Transfer The Programs To My iMac Without Losing My Data On My iMac? Or is There Any Other Way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI think it worked at one point, but sometime around the point when I set up Fusion with the partition, Windows Aero turned off and is no longer an option in the display settings. I installed this driver with the modded INF to see if it would do anything, but Aero is still not an option. I also have issues playing some games in Fusion, while they work fine in Boot Camp.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI sent an email to Steve Jobs about my yellow tint 21.5 iMac issues (three exchanges, all affected, resulting in a refund). I got a call from Dena at Executive Care within 24 hours.
She said they are aware of the problem and do not know how widespread it is. According to Dena, the issue is not resolved and that ordering a new iMac will not result in a fixed display.
She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.
I have been reading and reading but I can't seem to find the answer. Im trying to figure out if the optical drive for the iMac has a slimline sata connector or a standart sata connector. Reason is I'd like to install an SSD and use an optibay adaptor.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHey guys! So just a few days ago, I received my iMac, and boy do I love it. A definite upgrade and improvement from my old Acer Aspire 3680.
But despite this, I have noticed that my iMac does have a slight yellowish tint at the bottom to corners. I just arrived at my desk, and the login window (I keep a password lock) had a slight yellowish tint when I woke up my iMac from sleep . I then noticed that the bottom two corners had a slight yellow tint to them. I verified this via the MacRumors Forum post, and I was able to find it out by making my desktop background white. Again, it may not seem noticeable at first, but if you examine it closely, it becomes apparent.
I've already called my local Apple store and one of them said that don't know about this issue (?) and that they could schedule an appointment for me. I declined because I have to have me parents take me and I'm pretty sure that I can't handle the load of carrying a 20lbs. computer w/o dropping it (yikes!).
So here's the big question, should I go to my local Apple store or call the Apple hotline when it's open (currently closed at the time of this thread)? I don't want to sound like a lunatic or someone that just wants to get a better iMac for free. Again, it's slight, but considering that I do movie editing and Photoshop work

View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't know what the deal is. I'm trying to install 2 sticks of 2GB into my 7,1 iMac, and the screw just won't turn. I'm using a standard Phillips head, and nothin' doin'. The screw is now starting to strip, so I guess I'm going to have to take this into the friggin' Apple Store just to have them open the thing.
Had a quick question. I'm on my third 27" stock 3.06Ghz imac that was replaced yesterday. The good news is that so far it doesn't seem to have any of the problems of my previous two 27" imac's. There is one thing though. A couple of seconds after pressing the power button to bootup there is a brief mechanical sound from the dvd drive like a quick ejecting sound even though there is no cd in the drive. My first 27" imac dvd drive made the sound but the second imac 27" Imac I had didn't. Is this sound normal? Would be curious to know why two out of the three 27" Imac's I had make that noise.
