View 8 RepliesMy employer offers free Norton antivirus software for Mac or PC to all its employees for use on the employees' home computers. Question: Should I load the software on my new 2009 iMac, or pass on it? Free is great, but would it do more harm than good, such as slowing down my computer? FWIW, at the Apple store several employees told me neither they nor the store manager uses antivirus software on their personal macs.
View 13 Replies View RelatedBeen hitting the search and found that the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB is a popular choice amongst MBP owners. Will this have any issues with the SMS? Also, can I expect any increase in heat and vibration, as opposed to the stock drive? Finally, I've heard a few people say that the bottom plate doesn't sit flush due to the extra height of the drive (12.5 - 9.5mm), is this true?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to get AVG Anti-Virus Free, it only directs me to a link to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.5. Since I had 7.1 removed from my machine, this upgrade obviously will not work. But I can never find a link to the actual 7.5 install itself. Does this even exist? How does one find it? Or better yet, is there a better free anti-virus option available?

Is it true that antivirus software is not really needed with a Mac? I do not do pron sites but do go to TPB some but mostly for videos but not apps.
So, if I need AV, what are the good (cheap) ones? What about spyware/malware?
What is the current trend regarding antivirus for the iMac? How many of you are using it? If you do use it, which one are you using?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI would like to uninstall old anti-virus files. Both Virusbarrier and Norton were used at one time. Both programs have been deleted but I still get asked about Virsubarrier renewal as well as Norton safe files questions. I've gone thru applications, library folders and I've used Appzapper. Where are the hidden files?
View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, I'm not the most cautious web browser in the world and from time to time have found myself connected to sites that were probably a bad choice. I haven't had any problems in the past year until this morning. My SO was emailing someone and several error messages popped up regarding System Errors and an Internet Antivirus Pro warning, which of course wanted them to download the program, I assume. It was not downloaded. The mouse cursor would still move, but you couldn't click on anything on the screen. So a hard force quit was done, and the modem was shut off.
Turned the Mac back on, ran a Intego VirusBarrier check, all was OK. I then googled "Internet Antivirus PRO" and it sounds as if it is a major piece of malware/spware/trojan....something bad that is very difficult to remove(from a PC...that is-there even is a YouTube video showing you how to go about the removal process on Windows). I can find NOTHING on this "program" being on a Mac. Should I be concerned? Is it as easy as going into my downloads folder and deleting anything with an .'.exe' in it, or is it more complicated.
First time owner of Mac and never thinking about switching back to PC. I bought the IMAC 2l inch a couple of days ago. I am wondering if I need to install any antivirus software, ccleaner, ad aware, spybot or spywareblaster like I have on my PCS.

I keep finding that there is dust under my iMac screen. When I remove the glass planel to clean it and put it back, there is inevitably ALWAYS some dust that gets in between the second I wipe the screen and second I put it on. I've spent hours over the past few weeks doing this and it's driving me mad. All I want is a screen with no dust. I heard I can use canned air. If so, how exactly would I go about doing this? Spraying the canned air inside?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've only got 21 GB left on my iMac out of 639 GB or something (I save a LOT of videos and audios). My computer is running soooooo slow so I'm thinking that it's just got too much in there and too close to the max capacity to run faster. Am I right? Do I need to delete things or purge or what to free up storage?
I've already deleted a ton of files but I think they are saved in more than one place which means duplicate files all over the place I think? Not sure.
But I can't always save something to the folder I want to save it in, it goes in my downloads folder where then I have to move it to the appropriate folder to save in an organized manner. I've deleted most of my downloads folder and many videos but I'd rather save them somewhere instead and not just rely on YouTube to host and save them.
I have an online data backup system too, Carbonite, but I'm not sure I can save other things there that then are not still on my computer?
I could save things on a hard drive but will that really solve my sloooow computer running issues?
Not sure what to do?

1) I recently switched to mac and wanted to know some popular applications.
2) I also need some tutorial's on using a mac.
3) some temperature, cpu usage, hdd read, write monitor that can stay on my menu bar(near clock, sound....)
4) How to check that my macbook supports 64bit?
5) Please recommend some sites to keep up-to-date with that apps.
So, I'm not really expecting this to actually work, but is anyone aware of any way I can use my 20" Mid-2007 iMac as a secondary monitor for my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro without any wires and for free?
I add for free because I heard something about a program called ScreenRecycler or something like that, which costs money and thus I am not interested.
I'm ordering a new iMac tomorrow. I'm a little worried about the inability to open the iMac up and clean any of the fan blades. I know the fan on my tower, the fan on my graphics card, even my ceiling fan gets dusts around here (2 dogs, SoCal dust etc). They require periodic cleaning or the gunk level gets....well....pretty gunky! Is there a filter of some kind that's easy to get to to keep the inside of my iMac nice and clean (read: cool)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn view options I checked show item info, and I actually like this look a little better. But the info is incorrect, I have a 500 Gb HD partitioned to 430 for OS X and 70 for Win7. And that is exactly what it shows on the desktop, not the correct amount of free space, but the maximum capacity of the drive. I read one post that said to simply drag something into the drive, and it would re-register with the correct amount of space, tried it and needless to say it didn't work. So does anyone know how to make this work? I posted a screen to show you what I mean, but the image is so small I don't know if you will be able to see what I am talking about
