i know that there are no viruses for mac, and that i dont need an antivirus program, but i need the antivirus program that makes it so it detects windows viruses, so i dont spread them to pc users over email.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo a few months back my old mac mini decided to crap out on me and I was computer-less for those few months. Since my money situation isnt too good right now (unemployed, live at my grandmas and my dad supports me. Im 21 btw) I didnt bother getting it fixed until recently. Keep in mind the computer is out of warranty and I dont have Apple Care. So I eventually took it to the apple store and they said the logic board was fried and possibly the ram. They quoted me at $317 for a new logic board. I told them I'll give it a wait because I cant afford it. So a few weeks later I decide to go back and ask if I can get it done for a cheaper price. They told me they can do it for $217 with just the logic board replaced and if it needs ram they will tell me. They end up calling me telling me to pic it up and that the price is $377. I told them no, they told me they'll do it for 217. She tells me they had to replace the ram as well and thats why the price was higher. So I told her that as long as the computer still works with the old ram just put back the old ram and Ill pay the $217....
So I get a call back today saying I can pick it up. I ask them just to make sure how much the price was. She says no charge. So im of course confused and ask to speak to the person who repaired it. She tells me that since mac mini's are hard to open and shouldnt be opened a bunch of times that they just left it with the new logic board and ram and decided to do it for free given the small hassle I had with them. I couldnt believe it! It was a $377 dollar job and they just let it slide.
I tried to install a free application from the apple store, I was asked to enter the billing information even if free, gave all the details, chose visa as method of payment but I had a note saying that my method of payment is invalid. Why?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to get AVG Anti-Virus Free, it only directs me to a link to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.5. Since I had 7.1 removed from my machine, this upgrade obviously will not work. But I can never find a link to the actual 7.5 install itself. Does this even exist? How does one find it? Or better yet, is there a better free anti-virus option available?

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy employer offers free Norton antivirus software for Mac or PC to all its employees for use on the employees' home computers. Question: Should I load the software on my new 2009 iMac, or pass on it? Free is great, but would it do more harm than good, such as slowing down my computer? FWIW, at the Apple store several employees told me neither they nor the store manager uses antivirus software on their personal macs.

What are the experts opinions and advice?
It looks like Apple has again recommended that Mac OS X users install antivirus software. They do it in the Snow Leopard security page as described below: Apple recognizes virus and malware threat to Mac OS X and once again recommends antivirus software? I don't know what's going on with Apple when it comes to antivirus. They recommend it then backtrack. Now it shows up again with Snow Leopard. It's surely gonna open up the debate as to why Apple has posted the recommendation yet again.

I'm going to buy an iMac with the 1TB Hard Drive and Apple Care, i was wondering if you can take my iMac into the Apple Store and ask them to install an SSD drive along with my 1TB drive that came with the iMac. Basically giving me an SSD HDD like option you can take when ordering a iMac?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't really know which one to choose actually. First of all, does my iMac supports SATA III? If not, maybe i'll buy a new iMac.If it supports SATA III then i found the Corsair Force 3 480GB 2.5" SATA III SSD for a reasonable price. Do you recommend that? Does all the SSDs on the market work with mac without problem? I also want to upgrade my 4GB of 1333MHz memory to 8 or 16. There are 2 empty slots right now. Can you please make a recommendation about it too.

I have a 27" iMac that I recently took to the Apple Store to have the LCD replaced. When I got my machine back and started it up, the fans kicked on full speed and will not stop...this didn't happen prior to me taking it to repair...it ran nearly silent. My firmware and so forth is all up to date.... I downloaded SMC Fan Control to see what was going on... my computer is operating at 97 degrees farenheit. but my CPU fan is spinning at 4035 rpm. That's crazy over the top. Optical drive fan (with no disk in it) is spinning at 3736rpm...and my HD fan is at 1098rpm (which is probably about right.Â

I have a 1 TB LaCie drive that I am currently using with a MBR partition scheme. It has two partitions: one for time machine and one for windows. What I want is to use this drive to hold my time machine back ups in one partition for Lion, which I am about to switch to and install on the iMac internal drive, my windows stuff in one partition, and a third partition in which I would put a clone (CCC) of my current internal drive (Snow Leopard) that I could boot from when desired.
This would enable me to run Lion normally from the iMac's internal drive, switch to the windows partition (holding down the option key when powering on) on occasion when I want to work in a windows only app, and using the same option key on power on trick, boot into Snow Leopard when I need to use old, apps that won't run on Lion. For this, I assume that I should use the GUID partition scheme. Am I right? Is there a better way to accomplish my goal?
