OS X :: Finding Internet AntiVirus Program On My IMac
Apr 2, 2009
OK, I'm not the most cautious web browser in the world and from time to time have found myself connected to sites that were probably a bad choice. I haven't had any problems in the past year until this morning. My SO was emailing someone and several error messages popped up regarding System Errors and an Internet Antivirus Pro warning, which of course wanted them to download the program, I assume. It was not downloaded. The mouse cursor would still move, but you couldn't click on anything on the screen. So a hard force quit was done, and the modem was shut off.
Turned the Mac back on, ran a Intego VirusBarrier check, all was OK. I then googled "Internet Antivirus PRO" and it sounds as if it is a major piece of malware/spware/trojan....something bad that is very difficult to remove(from a PC...that is-there even is a YouTube video showing you how to go about the removal process on Windows). I can find NOTHING on this "program" being on a Mac. Should I be concerned? Is it as easy as going into my downloads folder and deleting anything with an .'.exe' in it, or is it more complicated.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A400 Safari/6531.22.7)
I'm used to using pcs and I'm about to get a MacBook. If I do want to Download an antivirus program what would you recommend? What else can I do from preventing getting viruses?
So honestly I'm pretty much gonna use the windows partition for gaming and for using programs that are exclusive to windows. Would it be worth paying for antivirus software or just install a free version? What software do you use? Is it free and effective?
OKay so the other day I was on windows live messenger (for mac... on my mac) then I left my computer to go to the bathroom and I still had a convo open, when I came back the person i was talking to said that I had sent her this:
(or something like this....) happynewyearpics. (That's all i remember) The friend I was talking to asked me what it was, I wasn't thinking and I opened it, it led me to some weird website about a quiz to win something.. but then later at 3:30 the other day I wasn't online, or logged in at all but my other friend said that I wasn't even online and that i had sent her this link. I'm pretty sure that I have a virus and I have NO idea how to get rid of it or if I can get virus software.
I'm new to Macs and was wondering about virus protection. I've heard I don't need any but sometimes when I'm logging into MySpace I get a warning about potential virus threats and some sort of scanning system starts up. I managed to get this url from it. liteantimalwarescan.com
Is this something I need to worry about? Is it a virus and do I need virus protection?
I am new to the macworld and realize that one of the perks to having a mac is much less risk to viruses, spyware, etc. I have heard, however, that this does not necessarily mean one shouldn't invest in an anti-virus application. I am wondering if mac users typically invest in one. It might help me make the decision whether i should.
What is the best antivirus software for a Macbook Pro...I recently received a message from Google that someone made an attempt to hack into my mail account and I needed to change my PW and verify myself as the user. The message suggested that I run a virus scan to check for sny malware or other types of viruses. I do not have any software for this and up until now have not had a problem..
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I would like to uninstall old anti-virus files. Both Virusbarrier and Norton were used at one time. Both programs have been deleted but I still get asked about Virsubarrier renewal as well as Norton safe files questions. I've gone thru applications, library folders and I've used Appzapper. Where are the hidden files?
My employer offers free Norton antivirus software for Mac or PC to all its employees for use on the employees' home computers. Question: Should I load the software on my new 2009 iMac, or pass on it? Free is great, but would it do more harm than good, such as slowing down my computer? FWIW, at the Apple store several employees told me neither they nor the store manager uses antivirus software on their personal macs.
First time owner of Mac and never thinking about switching back to PC. I bought the IMAC 2l inch a couple of days ago. I am wondering if I need to install any antivirus software, ccleaner, ad aware, spybot or spywareblaster like I have on my PCS.
I recently just switched from Windows and I've used Softpointer's Tag & Rename which was an incredible program for editing hundreds and hundreds of mp3 files at a time.
Is there a recommended program for Mac like Tag & Rename?
Need a good zip program for mac. One to make zip files not extract them. And don't say snow leopard already has that built in. That's garbage cuz it makes that extra useless OS_X folder and that's not needed at all. Plus it never works when say making themes for SMF. They never upload correctly. I know cuz it does on my moms windows 7. Already tried YemuZIP for mac. No good either. And if I manually upload the files it works fine. So it has to be the zip program. Any others besides mac or yemu good for making zip files. Preferably free.
just started university this year and for my math classes I was wondering if there was some program available which could help me to write down stuff on my Mac instead of taking notes and stuff. I am not looking for a complicated and advanced math program used for research and stuff but just a simple easy to use straightforward program. I have only one math course and its kind of basic so I repeat I am not looking for anything advanced.
I just bought a new iMac and am unable to use the program iDress any longer with Snow Leopard to make address labels. I guess they are no longer in business because I am unable to contact them. I am interested in address labels and know that I can do this thru AddressBook but with that program am unable to make a page of the same name address labels. (ex. my name for return labels) I also want to be able to merge with AddressBook for Christmas lists etc. Any recommendations as to a good software program. I understand that I can do this thru iWork (Pages) but haven't figured that out or found where to download the right Avery templates for the Mac.
i have mac pro with 10.6.2 running and the have a wi-fi router installed to the mac pro via cable ethernet. i also have 2 other computers running windows 7 and they both connect to the internet wirelessly. i want to know if there's a mac program i can installed that allows me to limit the amount of internet usage the other computers are using. the issue is i have a limit of 20GB per month, and would like to let the other computers running windows to each have a internet usage limit of 5GB per month - or if someone knows how to do it via mac os x
I have been trying to determine which Backup program is best to use to backup my MacPro to my CalDigit external eSATA VR Mini RAID drives? I have heard lots of good stuff about SuperDuper, Chronosynch, Carbon Copy Cloner...
I am trying to back up my 2TB HD (27" iMac Quad i7) to an external 2 TB hard disk.
it is taking an eternity... really.
time machine took 36 hours and only did 1TB. of data (no program or other files)
Carbon Copy Cloner so far has taken over 25 hours and not even done 900 GB yet... (though it is making a bootable copy of everything even system and apps.)
Ive downloaded a bunch, but couldnt find one that fit my needs.
So on microsoft paint, you have the ability to set specific margins when printing, fit to page, center, etc... as well as change printer, paper type, and ink settings for optimal quality..
however i couldnt find one thus far to use on my mac.. closest ive downloaded has been google's picasa but there are only preset margins and nothing regarding print quality, etc
so i need a program with these capabilities..it doesnt need to be a good photo editor... i just need to open existing photos and be able to adjust print margins/ quality myself
The file extension is exactly that, .igs. I can't get it to open using anything, nor can I find very much information on what programs even deal with it. I see alot of stuff about .iges.
These files were created about 6 years ago. I've tried TurboCad demo, eDrawings demo, TouchCad demo. Nothing works. All say unsupported file.
I am planning on converting my old HI8 tapes to DVDs.
I know there are a few options. Can anybody suggest a simple solution?I know there is a software you can install on my Mac. How is it called? Where can I get it?
